The hydroforming technology has been spreaded dramatically in automotive industry last 10 years. Itmay cause many advantages to automotive applications in terms of better structural integrity of the parts, lower cost from fewer part count, material saving, weight reduction, lower springback, improved strength and durability and design flexibility. In this study, the whole process of rear sub-frame parts development by tube hydroforming using steel material having tensile strength of 440MPa grade is presented. At the part design stage, it requires feasibility study and process design aided by CAE (Computer Aided Design) to confirm hydroformability in details. Effects of parameters such as internal pressure, axial feeding and geometry shape in automotive rear sub-frame by hydroforming process were carefully investigated. Overall possibility of hydroformable sub-frame parts could be examined by cross sectional analyses. Moreover, it is essential to ensure the formability of tube material on every forming step such as pre-bending, preforming and hydroforming. In addition, all the components of prototyping tool are designed and interference with press is examined from the point of geometry and thinning.
In the previous work, a new forging process design, which included incremental upsetting, diffusion bonding and cogging, was suggested as a method to manufacture 1.9wt%C ultrahigh carbon workrolls. The previous study showed that incremental upsetting and diffusion bonding are effective in closing voids and healing of the closed void. In addition, compression tests of the 1.9wt%C ultrahigh carbon steel revealed that new microvoids form within the blocky cementite at temperatures of less than $900^{\circ}C$ and that local melting can occur at temperatures over $1120^{\circ}C$. Thus, the forging temperature should be controlled between 900 and $1120^{\circ}C$. Based on these results, incremental upsetting and diffusion bonding were used to check whether they are effective in closing and healing voids in a 1.9wt%C ultrahigh carbon steel. The incremental upsetting and diffusion bonding were performed using sub-sized specimens of 1.9wt%C ultrahigh carbon steel. The specimen was deformed only in the radial direction during the incremental upsetting until the reduction ratio reached about 45~50%. After deformation the specimens were kept at $1100^{\circ}C$ for the 1 hour in order to obtain a high bonding strength for the closed void. Finally, microstructural observations and tensile tests were conducted to investigate void closure behavior and bonding strength.

Increasing the fuel economy has been an inevitable issue for the development of new cars, and one of the important measures to improve the fuel economy is to decrease the vehicle weight. In order to obtain this goal, the researches about lighter, stronger and the well impact absorbing bumper impact beam have been studied without sacrificing bumper safety. In this study, the overall weight reduction possibility of rear bumper impact beam could be examined based on the variation of frontal, offset and corner impact crash capability by substituting a ultra high strength steel material (boron steel ) having tensile strength of 1.5 GPa grade instead of conventional steels. In addition, the section variations (open section, closed section, open section with 5 stays) of the bumper impact beam structure were examined carefully. It could be reached that this analysis could be well established and be contributed for design guide and the optimum design conditions of the automotive rear bumper impact beam development.

The effect of porosity on the high-cycle fatigue properties of Al-Si-Mg casting aluminum alloys was investigated in this study. Microstructure examination, tensile and high-cycle fatigue test were conducted on both Al-Si-Mg casted (F) and heat-treated (T6) conditions. Porosity characteristics on the fracture surfaces of fatigue-tested samples were examined using SEM and image analysis. The microstructure observation results showed that eutectic Si particles were homogeneously dispersed in the matrix of the Al-Si-Mg casting alloys, but there were porosities formed as cast defects. The high-cycle fatigue results indicated that the fatigue strength of the 356-T6 alloy was higher than that of the 356-F alloys because of the significant reduction in volume fraction of pores by heat treatment. The SEM fractography results showed that porosity affected detrimental effect on the fatigue life: 80% of all tested samples fractured as a result of porosity which acted as the main crack initiation site. It was found that fatigue life decreased as the size of the surface pore increased. A comparison was made between surface pore and inner pore fur its effect on the fatigue behavior. The results showed that the fatigue strength with the inner pores was higher than that of the surface pore.

In this study, the reclaimed polypropylene (RPP) and waste ground rubber tire (WGRT) were used to simulate the thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) for cost reduction and resources recycling. Also, we examined the effects of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) and 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di-(tert-butylperoxy)-hexane (DTBPH) as peroxide type cross-linking agents to enhance the properties of TPV's. The components of RPP and WGRT were fixed at 30 and 70 wt%, and DCP and DTBPH were added in the concentrations from 0.5 to 1.5 phr, respectively. RPP/WGRT composites with different contents of DCP and DTBPH were prepared by a modular intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder. The Young's modulus of composites were decreased with increasing peroxides contents. On the other hand, tensile strength, elongation at break, and impact strength of the composites were increased with peroxide contents. We also confirmed that interfacial adhesion between RPP and WGRT was considerably improved by adding the peroxides. Taken together, DTBPH added RPP/WGRT composites exhibited better mechanical properties rather than those of DCP added composites.

Alloy 600 having a superior resistance to a corrosion is used as a steam generator tubing in nuclear power plants. In spite of its high corrosion resistance, there are many tubings which experience corrosion problems such as a SCC under the high temperature and high pressure environments of nuclear power plants. The Alloy 600 tubing can be repaired by using a Ni electroplating having an excellent SCC resistance. In order to carry out a successful Ni electrodeposition inside a steam generator tubing, the effects of various parameters on the material properties of the electrodeposit should be elucidated. Hence this work deals with the effects of an applied current density, duty cycle($T_{on}/(T_{on}+T_{off})$) of a pulse current, bath temperature and solution pH on the material properties of Ni electrodeposit obtained from a Ni sulphamate bath by analyzing the current efficiency, potentiodynamic curve, hardness and stress-strain curve. Hardness, YS(yield strength) and TS(tensile strength) decreased whereas the elongation increased as the applied current density increased. This was thought to be by a concentration depletion at the interface of the electrodeposit/solution, and a fractional decrease of the hydrogen reduction reaction. As the duty cycle increased, the hardness, YS and TS decreased while the elongation increased. During an off time at a high duty cycle, the concentration depletion could not be recovered sufficiently enough to induce a coarse grain sized electrodeposit. With an increase of the solution temperature and pH, the YS and TS increased while the elongation decreased. The experimental results of the hardness and the stress-strain curves can be supplemented by the results of the potentiodynamic curve.
The rapid-set cement concrete causes high hydration temperature and nay result in a high drying shrinkage and shrinkage-induced cracking. This problem may be fixed by incorporating polypropylene fibers in rapid-set cement concrete, because of increased toughness, resistance to impact, corrosion, fatigue, and durability. A series of concrete drving shrinkage tests was peformed in order to investigate the shrinkage properties of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete with experimental variables such as concrete types, fiber reinforcement, W/C ratio, with and without restraint. Uni-axially restrained bar specimens were used for the restrained shrinkage tests. The results were as follows; The dry shrinkage of rapid-set cement concrete was much lessor than that oi OPC, probably because of smaller weight reduction rate by early hydration and strength development. The constraint and bridging effects caused by polypropylene fibers were great for the rapid-setting cement concrete when compared with that of plain concrete, and this resulted In increased resistance against tensile stress and cracking.

In high strength bolted joints, the corrosion of base material causes the reduction of slip resistance of the joints. In this study, tensile tests on slip-critical joints utilizing Zn/Al metal spraying corrosion resistance method were carried out in order to prevent the corrosion and meet the required mechanical characteristics of joints. In addition, slip coefficient and surface roughness were calculated. The key parameters were surface finishing condition and thickness of coating with the identical geometry in all specimens. From the results, it is found that the slip coefficient of the joints with coated finish after sand blast treatment as well as those of non-coated joints with only sand blast treatment were similar or superior to 0.45, which is a specification criteria of slip coefficient in friction-typed joints.

The effects of tunnelling in weak weathered rock on the behaviour of a pre-existing single pile and pile groups ($3{\times}3$ and $5{\times}5$ pile groups) above a tunnel have been studied by carrying out three-dimensional (3D) elasto-plastic numerical analyses. Numerical modelling of such effects considers the response of the single pile and pile groups in terms of tunnelling-induced ground and pile settlement as well as changes of the shear transfer mechanism at the pile-soil interface due to tunnelling. Due to changes in the relative shear displacement between the pile and the soil at the pile-soil interface with tunnel advancement, the shear stresses and axial pile force distributions along the pile change drastically. Based on the computed results, upward shear stresses are induced up to about Z/L=0.775 from the pile top, while downward shear stresses are mobilised below Z/L=0.775, resulting in a reduction in the axial pile force distribution with depth equivalent to a net increase in the tensile force on the pile. A maximum tensile force of about $0.36P_a$ developed on the single pile solely due to tunnelling, where $P_a$ is the service axial pile loading prior to tunnelling. The degree of interface shear strength mobilisation at the pile-soil interface was found to be a key factor governing pile-soil-tunnelling interaction. Overall it has been found that the larger the number of piles, the greater is the effect of tunnelling on the piles in terms of pile settlement, while changes of the axial pile forces for the piles in the groups are smaller than for a single pile due to the shielding effect. The reduction of apparent allowable pile capacity due to tunnelling-induced pile head settlement was significant, in particular for piles inside the groups.

Kenaf has a rigid and rough touch that inhibits the use of it as a textile material; therefore, this study developed a novel textile material using kenaf. Kenaf and cotton were blended in the ratio of 3:7 and manufactured as 20' spun yarn that was compared to 20's spun yarn made of 100% cotton. Both kenaf/cotton-blended and 100% cotton spun yarn were constructed as plain woven and knitted fabrics. Four kinds of fabrics were prepared as follows. Plain kenaf/cotton-woven fabrics, plain cotton-woven fabrics, kenaf/cotton jersey, and cotton jersey. A cellulase washing process was carried out to reduce the character of kenaf/cotton-blended fabrics, rigid, and rough touch. All fabrics were pretreated with NaOH. NaOH at the concentrations of 0, 0.25, 1.25, and 2.25mol/L, and cellulase at concentrations of 0, 1, 3 and 5g/L were used since the pretreatment of NaOH has a higher efficiency of weight loss than $Na_2CO_3,\;K2CO_3$ and Triton X-100. The ratio of weight loss, tensile strength, stiffness, drape property, and surface appearance were measured in order to evaluate the efficiency of the washing treatment on fabrics. Kenaf/cotton-blended fabrics exhibited more rigid and rough features than cotton fabrics. A cotton jersey showed significant differences in the degree of stiffness and drape properties. When all fabrics were treated with 1.25mol/L of NaOH and 3g/L of cellulase, kenaf/cotton-blended fabrics showed a higher retention ratio of tensile strength than cotton fabrics after washing despite the increased weight l08s of kenaf-blended fabrics compared to cotton fabrics. The ratio of weight loss for all fabrics was well correlated with flexibility. The washing treatment process made woven fabrics more flexible than knitted fabrics, because the stiffness of woven fabrics made the rubbing actions stronger. Kenaf/cotton-blended fabrics showed a significantly higher ratio of weight loss and more reduction in stiffness than cotton fabrics after the washing treatment. This might be due to the lack of cohesiveness and easy elimination from fabrics. The drape property of kenaf-blended fabrics was superior to cotton fabrics.
