In this study, many concrete specimens were tested to investigate the variations of strength characteristics of high-strength concrete due to amount of recycled coarse aggregates, and to investigate the effect of steel-fiber reinforcement on concrete using recycled coarse aggregates. Test results showed that all of the variations of compressive, tensile and flexural strength appeared in linear reduction according to icrease the amount of recycled coarse aggregates, and steel-fiber reinforcement of 0.75% volumn of concrete recovered completely spliting tensile strength and flexual strength and recovered greatly compressive strength of concrete using recycled coarse aggregates of 100% displacement. And test results showed that the shear strength falled rapidly at 30% of replacement ratio so far as 34% of strength reduction ratio, but after that it falled a little within 3% up to the replacement ratio 100%, and steel-fiber reinforcement of 0.75% of concrete volumn recovered completely the deteriorated shear strength, moreover improved the shear strength above 50% rather than that of concrete using natural coarse aggregates.
A new reduction method of residual stress in welding joint is proposed where welded metals are shaken during welding. By an experiment using a small shaker, it can be shown that tensile residual stress near the bead is significantly reduced. Since tensile residual stress on the surface degrades fatigue strength for cumulative damage, the proposed method is effective to reduction of residual stress of welded joints. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by the response analysis using one mass model with nonlinear springs.
The effects of Mg and Cu amounts on the casting characteristics and tensile property of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys were investigated for the development of high strength aluminium alloys for gravity mold casting. Increase of copper amounts in Al-6%Zn-3%Mgy% Cu alloys resulted in reduction of the fluidity of these alloys and had little effects on the tensile property of these alloys. Increase of magnesium amounts from 1.0wt% to 3.3wt% in Al-6%Zn-x%Mg-0.5%Cu alloys resulted in reduction of the elongation of these alloys from 12% to 3% and increase of the tensile strength of these alloys from 340MPa to 450MPa, but had little effects on the fluidity of these alloys.
The effect of the solution & aging treatment on the tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, reduction of area, hardness was studied in the 17-4 PH stainless steel. SEM pictures were also taken in order to examine the fracture surfaces and precipitated particles. X-ray diffraction patterns for the heat treated samples were also observed. Mechanical properties of the heat treated samples were superior to those of as cast samples. Tensile strength, yield strength, hardeness decreased with the increase of aging temperature. On the other hand, elongation and reduction of area increased as the aging temperature increased.
The influence of columnar dendirtes on the mechanical properties of Al-1% Cu alloys as unifirectionalloy solidified under the conditions of controlled crystal growth rate (R) and temperature gradient (G) was investigated. And the change of metallography and mechanical properties when unifirectionalloy solidified alloys and cast alloys were cold-rolled from 10% to 90% in reduction ratio was studied. The results are as follows: 1. The elongation and yield strength of unifirectionalloy solidified alloy are higher then those of cast alloy, but there is a little decrease in ultimate tensile strength. 2. The metallography and mechanical properties are changeable with the primary arm spacings when the unidirectionalloy solidified alloys were cold-rolled from 10% to 90% in reduction ratio. An alloy with larger primary arm spacings was easily changeable in metallography and mechanical properties when it was cold-rolled. 3. The tensile strength of transversely cold-rolled to 90% in reduction ratio was higher then that of longitudionalloy cold-rolled to 90% in reduction ratio. In the case, the fractorgraphs of fractured surface showed that the cast alloy and the unifirectionalloy solidified alloy was ductile-fractured, but the surface of transversely cold-rolled to 90% reduction of unidirection alloy solidified was slip plane qracture.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the flexural strengthening effects of CF(Carbon Fiber) sheet for the full-scale RC beams with multi-layer CF sheets. The partial strength reduction factors of CF sheets are suggested from the full-scale RC beams tests strengthened with multi-layer CF sheets up to six layers as well as material tests. From the material tensile tests, it was observed that the average tensile strengths of CF sheets per layer are decreased as the number of CF sheets is increased. Also the steep strength reductions of CF sheets in material test results at rupture are observed compared with the structural tests results for the full-scale RC beams strengthened with multi-layer CF sheets. Finally, the partial strength reduction factors far CF sheets up to six layers are suggested considering the effects of multi-layer and unit weight of CF sheets.
Effects of microstructural change, tensile properties and impact property according to the change of austenitizing temperature and tempering temperature of AISI 51B20 steel were examined. Regardless of austenite grain size, lath martensite with needle and packet shapes was found at tempering temperature of $300^{\circ}C{\sim}400^{\circ}C$. The needles of lath martensite changed to parallel packet at tempering temperature of $450^{\circ}C{\sim}600^{\circ}C$. As tempering temperature increased, tensile strength, yield strength and hardness decreased, while elongation, ratio of reduction area and Charpy impact energy increased. Grain size increased when quenching temperature was $930^{\circ}C$. Grain size had prominent effect on the mechanical properties of AISI 51B20 steel. Ratio of tensile strength/yield strength and yield strength autenitized at $880^{\circ}C$ followed by tempering at $350^{\circ}C{\sim}450^{\circ}C$ showed higher values than that of autenization at $930^{\circ}C$ due to fine grain size.
Cotton fabrics were finished with mixture of BTCA(1,2,3,4,-butanetetracarboxylic acid) and polyalkyleneoxide-modified amino-functional silicone by pad-dry-cure process to achieve better DP performance with a higher retention of physical properties as compared to those of finished with BTCA alone. The results indicated that BTCA improved the wrinkle recovery but reduced significantly the tensile and tear strength of the treated fabrics. Whereas silicone imparted a lower wrinkle recovery, a lower loss of tensile strength than BTCA, in addition improved considerably the tear strength owing to reduction in inter-fiber and/or inter-yarn frictional forces. The concentration and curing temperature needed to enhance physical properties were as follows; for BTCA treatments 6%, at 18$0^{\circ}C$, for silicone treatments 1% at 14$0^{\circ}C$. This optimum concentration of silicone was observed by using the mixture of BTCA and silicone. The wrinkle recovery and DP rating of cotton fabrics treated with mixture of 4% BTCA and 1% silicone at a curing temperature of 17$0^{\circ}C$ was similar to those of treated with 6% BTCA at a curing temperature of 18$0^{\circ}C$, and other performance properties observed were; an increase in tensile strength, extension, toughness, abrasion resistance and moisture regain due to the reduction of BTCA concentration and curing temperature, futhermore an improvement in bending and surface properties due to the lubricating effect of silicone. On the other hand 1% aqueous silicone solution showed the lowest surface tension. Such nonionic surface activity resulted in a more uniform and rapid deposition of BTCA on the fiber or fabric.
