  • Purpose: The current study examined the retention and wear resistance of stud-type attachments made of high-performance polyetheretherketone (PEEK) or polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) from the polyaryletherketones (PAEKs) family. Methods: The study sample included 10 PEEK or PEKK attachments that were mounted onto their male parts, designed on the upper aspect of the attachment, with a load of 30 N. Tensile stress was applied using an Instron machine to separate the male and female parts, and the maximum tensile stress to be applied was determined based on the retention force observed. The wear resistances of PEEK and PEKK were evaluated by measuring the inner diameter of the inserted female part 10 times. Results: The maximum tensile stresses of PEEK and PEKK were 56.26±0.58 and 69.12±0.92 N, respectively, with the maximum stress required to remove the PEKK specimens from the abutment being 12.86 N higher than that required to remove the PEEK specimens. Furthermore, PEKK exhibited higher wear resistance than PEEK. Conclusion: This study evaluated custom-made removable implant-retained attachment components for overdentures, wherein the female parts were made of PEEK or PEKK. The retention stress and wear resistance were evaluated based on the type of attachment material, and the results showed that both types of attachment inserts demonstrated clinically acceptable results in terms of retention.

  • Resistance spot weldability of cold rolled 80kg/mm$^{2}$ and 45kg/mm$^{2}$ grade high strength steel sheets for automobile structure was investigated focussing on the influences of welding parameters such as welding current and welding time on the weld strength and the nugget formation. The results of this study showed that the optimum ranges of welding current for the grade 80 and grade 45 were 5.0 cycle(250 m sec.) It was also shown that the tensile shear strength of the resistance spot weld was strongly influenced by both current and time applied in welding procedure, however, the tensile shear strength was mainly affected by welding time for the higher strength steel.

  • The present work describes modification of dual phase filler by electron beam irradiation in presence of multifunctional acrylates like trimethylol propane triacrylate (TMPTA) or silane coupling agent like bis (3-triethoxysilylpropyltetrasulphide) and in-fluence of the modified fillers on the physical properties of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) vulcanizates. Modulus at 300 % elongation increases whereas the tensile strength decreases with increase in radiation dose for the dual phase filler loaded styrene-butadiene rubber vulcanizates (SBR). However, modulus and tensile strength significantly increase, which is more, pronounced at higher filler loadings for TMPTA modified dual phase filler loaded SBR. These changes in properties are explained by the equilibrium swelling data and Kraus plot interpreting the polymer-filler interaction. Electron beam modification of the filler results in a reduction of tan ${\delta}$ at $70^{\circ}C$, a parameter for rolling resistance and increase in tan ${\delta}$ at $0^{\circ}C$, a parameter for wet skid resistance of the SBR vulcanizates. Finally, the influence of modified fillers on the properties like abrasion resistance, tear strength and fatigue failure and the improvement in the properties have been explained in terms of polymer-filler interaction.

  • The single carbon fiber tensile test was performed with electrical resistance measurement. Tensile property of single carbon fiber which accompanied by the relationship between the electric resistance and the strain was investigated. Since the collected data showed a linear relationship between them, the coefficient of fiber slip ratio (FSR) was obtained by computation. The fragmentation specimen (FS) was tested under tensile loading, and the single carbon fiber broke first due to the stress transferring form matrix to reinforcing fiber. The stress distribution of carbon fiber could be observed via the electrical resistance change. Slipping between carbon fiber and matrix was predicted based on the fragmentation test results, and the FSR was used to evaluate interfacial adhesion comparatively. The large FSR indicated poor interfacial bonding. Work of adhesion between carbon fiber and matrix was measured to verify the FSR method, and two results exhibited a consistent conclusion.

  • Geotextile composites to improve the resistance to the application environment were manufactured of recycled polyester geotextile with carbon black as ultraviolet stabilizer and polypropylene geotextile by needle-punching method. Mechanical properties, ultraviolet resistance and chemical stability were evaluated. Retention ratio of tensile properties of polypropylene geotextiles were decreased about 50% with the exposed condition by ultraviolet but those of geotextile composites showed the slightly decrease. Geotextile composites which have larger weights of recycled polyester geotextile were more stable against ultraviolet. For chemical stability, the changes of tensile strength values of geotextile composites were in the range of -20~+10% at the various chemical conditions.

  • This study has developed an organic/inorganic hybrid solution by addition of $SiO_2$ polysilicate and Melamine to the urethane. The three types of cold rolled steel were evaluated a corrosion resistance properties by using these solutions. The urethane solution(U) and the urethane solution with $SiO_2$ polysilicate($US_7$) were generate a lot of corrosion. The urethane solution with $SiO_2$ polysilicate and melamine($US_7M_3$) was excellent in corrosion resistance, regardless of the steel type. In addition, corrosion resistance has been shown to depend on the tensile strength. The appearance of coating by U and $US_7$ solution is bumpy surface, and were a lot of fine defects. $US_7M_3$ solution is made a sophisticated molecular cross-linking structure inside the coating, it was a slick surface. Other characteristics are exhibited the excellent property for all solutions.

  • Although the basalt fiber has superior fire-resistance and chemical resistance, it has many disadvantages in its applications. Generally, the tensile and loop strengths of basalt fiber were decreased with generated frictional heat during industial appplications. To solve this problem, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating system was introduced and a sutable coating condition was evaluated. The basalt fiber was pre-treated with triethoxytrifluoropropylsilane (TMTFPS) at various pHs and then coated with PTFE dispersions with penetrating agent sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfo succinate (DOS-Na) to increase the tensile and loop strengths as well as to reduce the fibril during working. A universial testing machine (Instron Model 3366) was used to measure tensile and loop strengths. When the PTFE dispersion with 0.25 wt% of DOS-Na was coated on the surface of basalt fiber after pre-treating with 5 wt% of PTFE, the highest tensile and loop strengths were reached to 3.5 gf/D and 2.4 gf/D, respectively.

  • This investigation was focused on the low temperature tensile properties, phase change, changes in nitrogen content and corrosion resistance in the 22Cr-5Ni-3Mo duplex stainless steel after high temperature gas nitriding and solution annealing (HTGN-SA). From the HTGN-SA treatment, the duplex (ferrite + austenite) phase changed into austenite single phase. The nitrogen content of austenite single-phase steel showed a value of ~0.54%. For the HTGN-SA treated austenitic steel, tensile strength increased with lowering test temperature, on the other hand elongation showed the maximum value of 28.2% at $-100^{\circ}C$. The strain-induced martensitic transformation gave rise to lead the maximum elongation. After HTGN-SA treatment, corrosion resistance of the austenite single-phase steel increased remarkably compared with HTGN- treated steel.

  • In this study, the tensile properties of hybrid fiber reinforced cementitious composites under the high strain rate was evaluated. Experimental results, the HSF1.5PVA0.5 shown the highest tensile strength because the PVA fiber suppressed the micro cracks in the matrix around the hooked steel fiber and improved the pull-out resistance of hooked steel fiber. Thus, DIF of strain capacity and fracture toughness of HSF1.5PVA were greatly improved. Also, the fracture toughness was greatly improved because the tensile stress was slowly decreased after the peak stress by improvement of the pull-out resistance performance of hooked steel fiber at strain rate 101/s.
