PLA/PBAT 블렌드의 개질과 열적, 기계적 특성 (Modification of PLA/PBAT Blends and Thermal/Mechanical Properties)

  • 본 연구에서는 생분해성 지방족 폴리에스터 중 비교적 고가인 poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT)와 상대적으로 저가의 생분해성 고분자인 polylactic acid (PLA)의 블렌드에 3종류의 개질제를 사용하여 그 효과를 조사하였다. 개질제로는 에폭시계의 커플링제와 diisocyanate계열의 methylenediphenyl 4,4'-diisocyanate (MDI)와 hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI)를 사용하였다. 여러 가지 조성의 블렌드에 용융흐름지수, 동적 점탄성을 조사하였다. 또한, 인장시험을 통한 기계적 물성 조사와 FE-SEM으로 시편의 파단표면을 관찰하였다. 이를 통해 PLA/PBAT 블렌드의 상용성과 개질제의 효과 및 기계적물성에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 개질제로 HDI를 사용했을 때 PLA/PBAT의 인장물성이 크게 증가하였다.

  • Representative magnesium alloys applied to the die-casting are AZ91, AM60, etc., and the application of these alloys is restricted to components operating at moderate temperatures, due to grain boundary siding of ${\beta}$-phase($Mg_{17}Al_{12}$) at temperatures above $120^{\circ}C$. Heat-resistant magnesium alloys such as AE42, AE44 have been developed, but that have been too burdensome to produce because of the expensive rare earth materials. Research work for the development of low-priced heat-resistant magnesium alloy is actively in progress and positive results are being reported. This study aims to investigate the effect of Ca additions on mechanical properties of Mg-4Al-2Sn heat resistant magnesium alloys. Mg-4Al-2Sn alloys with Ca (0wt.%, 0.3wt.%, 0.7wt.%, 1wt.%) have been produced through the die-casting process for the development of low-priced heat-resistant magnesium alloy, and high temperature tensile tests are performed using the specimens. The results showed that mechanical properties of Mg-4Al-2Sn-xCa increased with the addition of Ca up to 0.7wt.% Ca and further addition of Ca deteriorated the mechanical properties of the alloys. A significant amount of porosity was observed at the sample with 1wt%. Ca and the longer freezing range of the alloy was believed to cause the formation of porosity.

쌍롤 박판 주조법으로 제조한 Ag-27.5%Cu-20.5%Zn-2.5%Mn-0.5%Ni 브레이징 합금의 미세조직 및 기계적 특성 (Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Ag-27.5%Cu-20.5%Zn-2.5%Mn-0.5%Ni Brazing Alloy Manufactured by Twin Roll Strip Casting)

  • The suitability of twin roll strip casting for Ag-27.5%Cu-20.5%Zn-2.5%Mn-0.5%Ni brazing alloy (known as HS-49D) was examined in the present work and the mechanical properties and microstructure of the strip were also investigated. The effect of annealing heat treatment on the properties was also studied. The new manufacturing process has applications in the production of the brazing alloy. XRD and microstructural analyses of the Ag-27.5%Cu-20.5%Zn-2.5%Mn-0.5%Ni strip revealed a eutectic microstructure of an Ag-rich matrix (FCC) and a Cu-rich phase (FCC) regardless of heat treatment. The results of mechanical tests showed tensile strength of 434 MPa and 80% elongation for the twin roll casted strip. Tensile results showed decreasing strengths and increasing elongation with annealing heat treatment. Microstructural evolution and fractography were also investigated and related to the mechanical properties.

  • Ferritic stainless steel is used for parts of exhaust system of commercial vehicle, because it has such advantages as low price and high corrosion resistant compared with austenite stainless steel. Even though ferritic stainless steel has these merits, to manufacture multi-layer bellows with complex geometry, austenite stainless steel is being used in the industry, because of it's high ductility. However, recently, the mechanical property of the ferritic stainless is getting improved and alternating austenitic stainless steel. In this paper, the possibility of mass production of bellows made of ferritic stainless steel like MH1 and 443CT is studied. Tensile test and ridging test are carried out to observe mechanical properties of STS304, MH1 and 443CT. Forming analysis using FEM is performed to investigate plastic strain during forming process. Prototype bellows has been made using STS304, MH1 and 443CT, respectively, and fatigue tests are carried out to evaluate fatigue life of bellows.

  • Mechanical and electrical properties of epoxy/silica microcomposites were investigated. The cycloaliphatic- type epoxy resin was diglycidyl 1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylate and the curing agent was of an anhydride type. To measure the glass transition temperature (Tg), dynamic differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis was carried out, and tensile and flexural tests were performed using a universal testing machine (UTM). Electrical breakdown strength, the most important property for electrical insulation materials, and insulation breakdown strength were also tested. The microcomposite with 60 wt% microsilica showed maximum values in mechanical and electrical properties.

  • 매우 작은 브릿지 형상을 무수히 지닌 용융탄산염 연료전지용 쉴드슬롯판이 생산 과정 중 일정한 곡률을 가지게 되는데, 자중으로 인해 본래의 곡률을 알 수 없게 되어 교정 작업에 지장을 초래한다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 쉴드슬롯판의 유효 물성치를 실험을 통하여 구하고, 이를 바탕으로 수치해석을 통해 쉴드슬롯판의 원래 곡률을 추정하였다. 구한 유효 물성치를 검증하기 위하여 정방향 및 역방향으로 놓인 쉴드슬롯판의 자중 처짐 형상을 계산을 통해 구하여 실험 결과와 비교하였다. 비교 결과 추정된 유효 물성치는 매우 타당하였고 이로부터 쉴드슬롯판의 원래 곡률을 추정할 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 추정된 유효 물성치는 추후 쉴드슬롯판의 편평도 향상에 대한 연구에서 유용한 자료로 활용될 수 있다.

Alloy Wheel용 저압 주조 A356-T6 합금의 기계적 특성 (Mechanical Properties of Low-Pressure Die Cast A356-T6 alloys for Automotive Wheels)

  • The mechanical properties of low-pressure die cast (LPDC) A356-T6 automotive road wheels are evaluated and correlated with their corresponding microstructures. In this study, two types of alloy wheels processed using different LPDC gating system are investigated. The yield stress, tensile stress, and elongation values tested at room temperature are correlated with the secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS) with respect to the gating system, and are also compared with similar studies. The SDAS and precipitates are examined using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy. The phase information is also investigated using X-ray diffraction. Charpy impact tests are also performed from $-100^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$, and the fracture surfaces are examined using SEM. The impact energy is demonstrated to increase with increasing temperatures without exhibiting specific transition behaviors as in other nonferrous alloys. The fracture toughness is also evaluated using three point bend test with single-edged bend specimens. The obtained fracture toughness values are in good agreement with those in similar studies.

  • Effects of forging and mechanical properties of 6061 aluminum alloy wheel for automobiles were investigated in the present study. Microstructural and tensile characteristics of automobile wheel after hot forging process using dynamic screw press were analyzed to evaluate effect of metal flow on mechanical properties. The results showed advanced mechanical properties of 6061 alloy wheel because of $Mg_2Si$ precipitation by T6, elongated grain by forging, and work hardening by dense metal flow, etc. Hot compression tests were conducted in order to characterize high temperature compression deformation behaviors and microstructural variation in the range of $300{\sim}450^{\circ}C$, in the strain rate range of $10^{-3}{\sim}10^1\;sec^{-1}$. As strain rate increased, maximum compression stress increased but it was shown the reverse linear relation between temperature and maximum stress irrelevant to strain rate variation. On the other hand, temperature and yield stress didn't have any linear relation and its relation showed big deviation by a function of strain rate and test temperature.

  • Magnesium alloys are currently expected to be widely used for weight reduction of cars and as high efficient materials in the automotive and electronics industries. Although the specific strength of magnesium is excellent, it cannot be easily formed at room temperature due to its HCP structure. However in order to improve the formability of magnesium, it is necessary to investigate its formability in the warm temperature range. In the current study, the aim was to add to the magnesium property database so that the mass production of a magnesium car body can be accomplished. Warm tensile tests were conducted and the forming limit diagram was determined to confirm formability characteristics of magnesium AZ31B alloy sheet. In addition the bending formability and the magnesium damping capacity were evaluated for AZ31B and compared to SPRC440E which is a sheet steel used for car bodies.

Strength failure behavior of granite containing two holes under Brazilian test

  • A series of Brazilian tests under diameter compression for disc specimens was carried out to investigate the strength and failure behavior by using acoustic emission (AE) and photography monitoring technique. On the basis of experimental results, load-displacement curves, AE counts, real-time crack evolution process, failure modes and strength property of granite specimens containing two pre-existing holes were analyzed in detail. Two typical types of load-displacement curves are identified, i.e., sudden instability (type I) and progressive failure (type II). In accordance with the two types of load-displacement curves, the AE events also have different responses. The present experiments on disc specimens containing two pre-existing holes under Brazilian test reveal four distinct failure modes, including diametrical splitting failure mode (mode I), one crack coalescence failure mode (mode II), two crack coalescences failure mode (mode III) and no crack coalescence failure mode (mode IV). Compared with intact granite specimen, the disc specimen containing two holes fails with lower strength, which is closely related to the bridge angle. The failure strength of pre-holed specimen first decreases and then increases with the bridge angle. Finally, a preliminary interpretation was proposed to explain the strength evolution law of granite specimen containing two holes based on the microscopic observation of fracture plane.
