  • General transformer's life is known as paper insulation' life. If a transformer is degraded by these aging factors, it is known that electrical, mechanical and chemical characteristics for transformer's oil-paper are changed. When the kraft paper is aged, the cellulose polymer chains break down into shorter lengths. It causes decrease in both tensile strength and degree of polymerization of paper insulation. The paper breakdown is accompanied by an increase in the content of furanic compounds within the dielectric liquid. In this paper it is aimed at analysis on correlation between aging characteristics for insulating diagnosis of thermally aged paper. For investigating the accelerated aging process of oil-paper samples accelerating aging cell was manufactured for estimating variation of paper insulation during 500 hours at $140^{\circ}C$ temperature. To derive the results, it was performed analysis such as tensile strength(TS), depolymerization(DP), dielectric strength(DS), relative permittivity, water content(WC) and furan compound(FC) for aged paper. Also for analyzing correlation between insulating degradation characteristics, we used linear regression method. As as results of linear regression analysis, there was a close correlation between TS and DP. WC, FC. But dielectric strength was a weak correlation with aging time.

  • Machining characteristics of tool steels manufactured by electro slag casting process has been investigated in this study. For the estimation of machinability, turning and drilling tests are carried out. The chip shapes at various velocities are investigated for the comparison of turning workabilities of tool steels because the chip shapes reflect characteristics of cutting resistance. In case of drilling test, feed motor currents measured by a hall sensor are used as a measure for the drilling resistance. The machining characteristics of the tool steels are strongly correlated with tensile properties, such as tensile strength, hardness, and ductility. In case of turning workability, it was found to be favoured by the higher tensile strength, while the opposite is true far the drilling workability. The electro-slag casted materials show better turning workability in the viewpoint of chip shapes and, the quenching-tempered electro-slag casted material has relatively better drilling machinability than that of the annealed one.

  • This study aims to establish the optimal environmental conditions for storing textile products. Four textile products (cotton, wool, nylon, cotton/polyurethane) were used to produce experimental fabrics according to artificial contamination and washing conditions. Each fabric was subjected to three environmental conditions (A: 20-25℃/20% RH, B: 20-25℃/50% RH, C: 30-35℃/65% RH) for 4-12 weeks. Changes in textile characteristics include tensile strength, wrinkle recovery rate, and odor intensity. Results show that the change in tensile strength for the four test fabrics slightly decreased with a storage time of 4 to 12 weeks. The wrinkle recovery rate of the fabrics was the lowest under the C condition. UV exposure causes a substantial decrease in the tensile strength of the textiles. The change in odor characteristics was the highest for the odor intensity in the C condition. For storing textile products for sustainable management, it is desirable to maintain a temperature of 20 to 25℃ with a relative humidity of 50% RH or less and to provide ventilation in an enclosed storage space that can also block UV rays.

  • This paper describes the heat distribution characteristics of ASTM A131DH36 high tensile steel for ship structures in 5㎾ $CO_2$ laser welding. In general, high energy of laser beam concentrates on the small area of the weldment instantaneously; therefore, this heat transfer mechanism induces the rapid changes of temperature and mechanical characteristics in laser welds this mechanism. So temperature distribution analysis is important to understand mechanical characteristics of laser welds. Authors have conducted finite element simulation to analyze the heat distribution characteristics in laser welds. The result of simulation has been verified by comparing with the metallurgical experiment result. From the result of this study, we can accurately predict the heat distribution characteristics in laser welds by using numerical simulation.

  • In this paper the bending collapse characteristics of 6XXX series aluminum rectangular tubes were studied with a pure bending collapse test rig which could apply the pure bending moment without imposing additional shear and tensile forces. Under the pure bending moment, there occured three kinds of bending collapse modes-local buckling delayed buckling and tensile failure-depending on the a, b, t (depth width thickness) and material properties. Experimental results are compared with the results of finite element method and other methods.

  • The earn shaft is very important for the safety of automobiles. The earn shaft needs a surface hardening process by high frequency induction to have both strength and toughness. It is required for safety of automobile to consider how the characteristics of tensile strength and toughness are changed according to the condition of surface hardness. In this study, we prepared surface hardened SM53C which is used as cam shaft materials. We examined the tensile strengths according to the depth of surface hardening and the effect of tempering. We also investigated the fracture toughnesses according to the depth of surface hardening(1mm, 2mm).

  • Polyvinylidene di-fluoride (PVDF) film sensor appeared to be practically useful for the structural health monitoring of composite materials and structures. PVDF film sensors were either attached to or embedded in the graphite/epoxy composite (CFRP) samples to detect the fatigue damage at the bondline of single-lap joints or the tensile failure of unidirectional laminates. PVDF sensors were sensitive enough to detect and determine the crack front in linear location since composites usually produce very energetic acoustic emission (AE). PVDF sensors are extremely cost-effective, as flexible as other plastic films, in low profile as thin as a few tens of microns, and have relatively wide-band response, all of which characteristics are readily utilized for the structural health monitoring of composite structures. Signals due to fatigue damage showed a characteristics of mode II (shear) type failure whereas those from fiber breakage at DEN notches showed that of mode I (tensile) type fracture.

  • In this paper, we have studied internal quality including chemical compositions, microscopic structure and nonmetalic inclusion of test materials. We have analyzed machining characteristics including tensile strength value, impact value, hardness value etcs. Test materials are usd martensitic heat resisting steel, STR11 and STS420J2. The obtined results are as follows : 1. In analyzing internal quality, STR11 and STR420J2 have typical martensite structure and a minute needle-shaped structure. 2. Tensile strength and reduction of area and hardness value are large STR11 than STS420J2. But elongation impact are smaller STR11 than STS420J2. 3. Fracture surface of tensile speciman is ductile in STR11 and STS420J2.
