  • The tensile strength test and the analysis for the section of brazing were performed in the cases of materials used for combustion chamber of regeneratively cooled liquid rocket engine. BNi-2 and BNi-7 based on nickel were used for brazing as filler metal. The properties of material and filler metal were analyzed by tensile strength test and metal microscope for 12 specimens. The tensile-strength of brazing for chrome-copper alloy and other kinds of alloy was higher than that of chrome-zirconium-copper alloy and other kinds of alloy The tensile strength in the case of BNi-2 as filler metal was higher than that of BNi-7 because the wetting property of BNi-2 was better than that of BNi-7.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of cold working on the tensile strength of Fe-26Mn-4Co-2Al damping alloy. ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ and ${\varepsilon}$-martensite were formed by cold working, and martensite was formed with the specific direction and surface relief. With the increasing degree of cold rolling, volume fraction of ${\alpha}^{\prime}$-martensite was increased, whereas the volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$-martensite was decreased after rising to maximum value at specific lever of cold rolling. Tensile strength was linearly increased with an increasing of degree of cold rolling. Tensile strength was strongly affected to the volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$-martensite formed by cold working, but the effect of volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$-martensite on the tensile strength was not observed.

  • The Brazilian tensile strength of concrete samples is a key parameter in fracture mechanics since it may significantly change the quality of concrete materials and their mechanical behaviors. It is well known that porosity is one of the most often used physical indices to predict concrete mechanical properties. In the present work the influence of porosity shape on concrete tensile strength characteristics is studied, using a bonded particle model. Firstly numerical model was calibrated by Brazilian experimental results and uniaxial test out puts. Secondly, Brazilian models consisting various pore shapes were simulated and numerically tested at a constant speed of 0.016 mm/s. The results show that pore shape has important effects on the failure pattern. It is shown that the pore shape may play an important role in the cracks initiation and propagation during the loading process which in turn influence on the tensile strength of the concrete samples. It has also been shown that the pore size mainly affects the ratio of uniaxial compressive strength to that of the tensile one in the simulated material samples.

  • Ferritic stainless steel is currently increasingly used for automotive exhaust material. The material for exhaust manifold is used in the temperature range of 500∼$850^{\circ}C$. Therefore, high temperature characteristic is an important one that affects it's life span. It has been investigated the effect of alloying elements of Cr, Mo, Nb, Ti in the ferritic stainless steel for exhaust manifold on the high temperature tensile strength. There was a few difference in the tensile strength at $600^{\circ}C$ with the exception of low Cr steel, but the steels containing higher Cr, Mo or Nb elements showed significantly higher tensile strength at the temperature of $800^{\circ}C$. The precipitates of the specimens after heat treating at the test temperature were electrolytic extracted, and quantitatively analysed using by SEM-EDS and TEM. The alloying elements of Cr and Mo increased the tensile strength as a solid solution strengthener, and on the other hand Nb element enhanced the strength by forming the fine intermetallic compounds such as NbC or $Fe_2Nb$.

  • Gray cast iron with a high damping capacity has been used for controlling the vibration and noise in various mechanical structures. Nevertheless, its usage has been often restricted due to its poor tensile strength. Therefore, it is necessary to improve tensile strength at the expense of a loss in damping capacity. This study is aimed at finding the best combination of tensile strength and damping capacity by varying austempering time and temperature range from $320^{\circ}C$ to $380^{\circ}C$ after austenization at $900^{\circ}C$ for 1hr. The effect of austempering condition on hardness and the volume fraction of retained austenite is investigated as well. The results obtained are summarized as follows : (1) With an increase in austempering temperature, both tensile strength and hardness decrease while damping capacity improves. (2) Austempering at $350^{\circ}C$, resulting in a mixture of upper and lower bainite with partially retained austenite, exhibits the optimum combination of tensile strength and damping capacity.

  • SiC particulate reinforced magnesium matrix composites were fabricated by melt stirring method. The effet of several factors on mechanical properties and the efficiency of melt stirring method from the viewpoint of these properties were investigated. The tensile strength increased and the elongation decreased with decrease of the particle size or the increase of the paticulate volume fraction for pure magnesium matrix and Mg-5%Zn alloy matrix composites. A longer stirring time improved the tensile strength of these composites. The tensile strength of Mg-5%Ca alloy matrix composites which shows no uniform paticulate distribution was a little lower than that of matrix alloy. Rapid solidification rate is preferred for the improved tensile strength of these composites. The pure magnesium matrix and Mg-5%Zn alloy matrix composites have tensile strength of about 400MPa. This value agrees with the tensile strength of some magnesium matrix composites fabricated by liquid infiltration method or powder metallurgy method at the same volume fraction of reinforcements of whisker or particle. Therefore, the melt stirring method which has the advantages of simple process is considered to be efficient in fabricating magnesium matrix composites.

  • An extensive tension experiment was carried out to examine the variation of tensile strength in moist sand having moisture contents in the range of 0.5% < w < 4.0% with newly developed direct tension apparatus. It was observed that tensile strength of sand varied as functions of moisture content, relative density, presence of fines, and level of precompression. Tensile strength increases with increasing moisture content and fines, and this trend is more noticeable at increasing relative densities. However, the influences of relative density and fines on the tensile strength are substantially dependent on the water content. These effects are reduced at low moisture levels (w < 0.5%). The precompression effects also depend on the water content but less on the duration and level of the precompression.

  • Hopkinson's effect tests were carried out for various strain rates on three different types of rock in both saturated and dry states in order to examine the effects of strain rate and water saturation on tensile strength. The tensile strength increased with the increase of the strain rate not only in dry state but also in saturated state. It was also especially recognizable that the dynamic tensile strength of rock in the dry state was proportional to approximately a one-third multiple of strain rate no matter what the type of rock. It was found that water saturation decreased tensile strength in the dry state of sandstone and tuff, both with high porosity, but no significant difference could be recognized between the dry and the saturated states of granite, which has a low porosity of 0.49%.

  • Manufacturing using a 3D printer has recently increased in many fields and the material extrusion method, which is a lamination method, is commonly used. Since it uses a plastic material, the strength of the output of 3D printing is lower than that of steel material. For this reason, research on improving the mechanical properties of the output of 3D printing is continuously being conducted. In this study, tensile strength was compared with changes in the material type (PLA+, ABS) and density (60, 80, and 100%), layer height (0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 mm), layer direction (transverse and lengthwise), and fill pattern (zigzag, honeycomb, and concentric) among 3D printing output conditions. Tensile tests according to 3D printing output conditions were performed using a Universal Testing Machine. The results showed that tensile strength ranged from 21.10 MPa to 43.65 MPa according to the 3D printing output conditions.

  • The purpose of this study is evaluating the characteristics of tensile strength of UHPC and examining tensile performance of notched specimens by direct tensile test. For test variables, 120, 150, and 180MPa of target design standard strength were aimed at. With general water curing and $90^{\circ}C$ high temperature steam as curing conditions, the properties were reviewed. Overall, it was represented that the specimens of notch-type direct tensile strength concrete was effective in inducing central cracks compared with existing direct tension specimens. Through this, it was judged that data construction with high reliability was possible. Above all, in a graph of direct tensile strength and strain, in the case of steam curing at high temperature, there was great difference of initial tensile strength compared with water curing. As passing of ages, an aspect that the difference gradually decreased was shown. Maximum tensile strength was found to increase steadily with increasing age for all target design strengths in water curing, in the case of steam curing, the tendency to increase significantly due to the initial strength development effect at 7 days of age. The initial crack strength increases with age in case of underwater curing, in the case of steam curing, it was higher than that of water curing in 7 days, while the strength of 28 days was lowered. In this part, it is considered necessary to examine the arrangement condition of the steel fiber.
