  • Fascism is a term that began to be used from the late 1930s, means an idea and a system that the strong power of the state intervenes or control people's life based on the argument that the existential value of individuals is found only in the total. Fascist looks, which resulted from World War I and II, had brought a new pattern in women's fashion inspired by men's military uniforms. Thus, the purpose of this study was to identify fascist fashion trends in the first half of the twentieth century and to infer various aesthetic values of fascism expressed in fascist fashion looks. The results of this study indicated that expressions of fascism reflected the current ideology of rebellion and appealed to the original national sentiment of the masses. Fascism occurred in response to the contradiction of capitalism and its general crisis had emerged as an ideology with the highest popularity symbolizing power and government during the first half of the twentieth century. It was expressed in military looks as self-centered nationalism and yearning for minorities. Second, fascist fashion looks were not only for political and sexual temptation with the image of power but also for the display of women's status and roles through the bold expression of sexual attractiveness. Finally, fascist fashion looks expressed medieval images praising the feudal age in imagination that contained heroism and at the same time achieved integration under strict social hierarchical order.

  • "Lolita," a novel by a Russian-American novelist, Vladimir Nabokov, has been the center of controversy since its first publication in 1955. As it gained wide fame across culture, it has exercised a great influence, altered or developed to diverse forms. Lolita, the title of the novel as well as the heroine's name, now takes a significant part in our society through all cultures and is used as various meanings and symbols. The purpose of this study is to reanalyze and reinterpret the current use of Lolita based on the characteristics initially portrayed in Nabokov's novel. The traits of the heroine were categorized into purity, seductiveness, and dualism and the commercial use of each in the mass media and fashion in Korea was closely examined. First, purity was interpreted as the archetypal image of a 12-year-old girl, while seductiveness was construed to involve temptation and enticement, ultimately leading a man astray. The dualism of an under-aged sexualized nymphet delineated in the novel as a poor little girl as well as a depraved temptress was stated as another trait of Lolita.

  • Is this a right way in politics that attitude of Japanese scholars to separate Natsume Soseki from the expansionism of pre-war Japan to protect 'sanctity'? Nowadays, most Japanese scholars are regarded to share the desire that minimize the memory of the behavior of Japanese Imperialism in East Asia, such as Korea, China, etc. Furthermore, 'the desire to minimize' inescapably concluded in avoidance, concealment, at last the temptation of deliberate misleading. Until now, the controversy about the Natsume Soseki's travel to Korea and Manchuria has repeated in defence and criticism surrounding the self-awareness and recognition of others of Natsume Soseki, making the expression in a record of Natsume's travel as the subject of study, for example, the degrading expression about Chosun people and scorn for Chinese and Russian. This paper will investigate that Natsume's travel is the political practice which is combined with the desire for the empire, focusing on the political context in the action of journey of Natsume and its contents other than the expression itself.

  • In order to overturn the exclusion of Korean schools from the newly implemented free tuition program (2010) as part of sanctions against North Korea, members of Korean schools and Japanese supporters have focused on "students' innocence" and "multicultural coexistence" as viable frameworks to explain why the students are sympathetic and legitimate subjects who deserve equal rights. Examining different political strategies employed by the Korean schools and their supporters through ethnography and media analysis, the article pays close attention to how they claim their eligibility for these rights while they negotiate state surveillance and intervention in the process. I argue that in their efforts to gain recognition as deserving and sympathetic subjects, Korean schools are trapped in what political theorist Patchen Markell calls a "permanent temptation" in pursuing "recognition." Anti-North Korea sentiments in Japan have made the desire for good recognition even more urgent among Korean school community members. The paper will demonstrate that the search for recognition unwittingly reinforces and perpetuates existing relations of subordination and state dominance over their education as it has forced the Korean schools to accept various "conditions" that would radically alter the core principle, mission, and pedagogy of Korean school education that is rooted in decolonizing theory and praxis. This paper will shed lights on dilemma of multicultural coexistence the Korean minority population faces in Japan today.

  • Financial markets have long been known to be prone to behavioral biases. One such behavioural bias that is consequential yet pervasive in financial markets is the herd effect. The objective of this study is to determine whether or not there exist herd behaviour in the new and bourgeoning Decentralized Finance (DeFi) Tokens market. This is accomplished by using daily returns of 22 DeFi tokens from January 29, 2017 to August 19, 2021, and the Cross-sectional Absolute Deviation (CSAD) of market returns to capture herd behavior. The results fail to provide any evidence of herding in the DeFi token market on bullish days, that is days for which the average market returns is positive. For bearish days however, that is days for which the market returns is negative, our empirical findings point to the presence of adverse herding in the DeFi token market. This phenomenon can be explained to some extent by the investor composition of the DeFi market. The DeFi token space is a growth market dominated by experts and/or enthusiasts who are insulated against the temptation and panic of negative market swings by the level of market and technical information they possess on the assets they invest.
