The Verification of Image Merging for Lumber Scanning System (제재목 화상입력시스템의 화상병합 성능 검증)

  • Automated visual grading system of lumber needs correct input image. In order to create a correct image of domestic red pine lumber 3.6 m long feeding on a conveyer, part images were captured using area sensor and template matching algorithm was applied to merge part images. Two kinds of template matching algorithms and six kinds of template sizes were adopted in this operation. Feature extracted method appeared to have more excellent image merging performance than fixed template method. Error length was attributed to a decline of similarity related by difference of partial brightness on a part image, specific pattern and template size. The mismatch part was repetitively generated at the long grain. The best size of template for image merging was $100{\times}100$ pixels. In a further study, assignment of exact template size, preprocessing of image merging for reduction of brightness difference will be needed to improve image merging.

  • Seamless data integration in the CAx chain of the CAD/CAPP/CAM/CNC has been achieved to a high degree, but research concerning the transfer of data from conceptual sketches to a CAD system should be carried out further. This paper presents a method for reconstructing a 3D model from a freehand sketch. Sketch-based modeling research can be classified into gestural modeling methods and reconstructional modeling methods. This research involves the reconstructional modeling method. Here, Mitani's seminal work, designed for box-shaped 3D model using a predefined template, is improved by leveraging a relational template and specialized for automotive design. Matching between edge graphs of the relational template and the sketch is formulated and solved as the assignment problem using the feature vectors of the edges. Including the stroke preprocessing method required to generate an edge graph from a sketch, necessary procedures and relevant techniques for implementing the template-based modeling method are described. Examples from a working implementation are given.

Structural Assignment of a Type II PHA Synthase and an Insight Into Its Catalytic Mechanism Using Human Gastric Lipase as the Modeling Template

  • A three dimensional (3D) model for the catalytic region of Type II Pseudomonas sp. USM 4-55 PHA synthase 1 (PhaC1$_{P.sp\;USM\;4-55}$) from residue 267 to residue 484 was developed. Sequence analysis demonstrated that PhaC1$_{P.sp\;USM\;4-55}$ lacked homology with all known structural databases. PSI-BLAST and HMM Superfamily analyses demonstrated that this enzyme belongs to the ${\alpha}/{\beta}$ hydrolase fold family. Threading approach revealed that the most suitable template to use was the Human gastric lipase (1HLG). The superimposition of the predicted PhaC1$_{P.sp\;USM\;4-55}$ model with the 1HLG template structure covering 86.2% of the backbone atoms showed an RMSD of 1.15 ${\AA}$ The catalytic residues comprising of Cys296, Asp451, His452 and His479 were found to be conserved and were located adjacent to each other. We proposed that the catalytic mechanism involved the formation of two tetrahedral intermediates.

  • Today, many companies will be isolated in competition if they do not have competitive power to overcome quick change and big crisis of market. Nowadays, globally high-grade companies have done their best for increasing their competitive power through a many kinds of methods in keen competition for making of pacesetting position. This study focuses on distribution with the domains like capacity, layout, amount of location, assignment of product, operation procedure and operation rule in order to improve these domains, we make a further application of eight analysis ways based on DMAIC method for improving operation of processes of distribution center as the third profit source. The purpose of this study is to seek an approach that can easily adopt of Lean Six Sigma in operational management of distribution center by a kind of data, analysis method and template.

  • Nowadays, globally high-grade companies have done their best for increasing their competitive power through a many kinds of method in incisive competition for making certain of a pacesetting position. Among the rest, Six Sigma have been the best methodology of improving process and have proven to be effective by the result of improving process in many of manufacturing business, however, it has not obtained excellent results in the transaction business. In transaction business, a $30\sim50%$ costs in total costs is generated by slow-speed working and reworking. The slow processes decrease the quality and increase the cost, which decreases customer satisfaction, and finally the income is decreased. All of them are so called wastes in processes. For this, adopting of lean six sigma methodology in process management can eliminate the wastes and reduce the variation.   • This paper discusses the method of vision based sensor fusion system for biped robot walking. Most researches on biped walking robot have mostly focused on walking algorithm itself. However, developing vision systems for biped walking robot is an important and urgent issue since biped walking robots are ultimately developed not only for researches but to be utilized in real life. In the research, systems for environment recognition and tele-operation have been developed for task assignment and execution of biped robot as well as for human robot interaction (HRI) system. For carrying out certain tasks, an object tracking system using modified optical flow algorithm and obstacle recognition system using enhanced template matching and hierarchical support vector machine algorithm by wireless vision camera are implemented with sensor fusion system using other sensors installed in a biped walking robot. Also systems for robot manipulating and communication with user have been developed for robot.

From Imagism to Vorticism: Understanding the Early Work of Ezra Pound

  • Students and other new readers of modernist poetry often experience difficulty with the influential early work of Ezra Pound. Although these typically brief poems may appear (deceptively) simple, an understanding of the relationship between Imagism and Vorticism is crucial to reading-or teaching-them effectively, which in turn requires significant familiarity with relevant poetics theories as well as representative poems. This essay clarifies the complex relations Imagism and Vorticism as two distinct styles that are too often conflated to the detriment of an accurate understanding of either one (and, in consequence, of the later modernist poetry that builds on their discoveries). In order to elucidate the modernists' justification of free verse over traditional metrical composition, I begin with an elaboration of T. E. Hulme's 1911 theory of the "cheerful, dry, and sophisticated" modern classicism on which both Imagism and Vorticism were largely predicated, developing Hulme's important distinction between the version of classicism that is "static" (and gives rise to Imagism) and the one that is "dynamic" (and leads to Vorticism and beyond it). In the following two sections, I draw upon and synthesize a broad range of Pound's own poetics statements to reveal the evolution of first sound ("melopoeia") and then the image ("phanopoeia") throughout his early work. Although the body of this article is analytical and historical in nature, it concludes with a practical template prompt for a creative response assignment, appropriate to undergraduate and graduate students, designed to help new readers recognize for themselves how Vorticist art works and why it matters.

Development of Issue-centered Small-group Debate Program for the Introduction to Traditional Korean Medicine (한의학 입문과정에서의 소집단 찬반토론 개발 연구)

  • This study was to develop an issue-centered small-group competing-debate program for the Introduction to Traditional Korean Medicine curriculum in School of Korean Medicine, Pusan National University. This debate program has student-, process- and depth-focused characteristics with critical-thinking perspectives. We employed random assignment of the position, submission of the presentation data prior to the debate, and individual result report to assess debate quality and participation of the students. This program was effective educational program for the understanding of traditional Korean medicine-related subjects. 56.7% of the students showed "Yes (>7 out of 10)" to the achievements of the program objectives, and 62.2% reported "much helpful (>7 out of 10)" to the usefulness of this program. We also found that this debate program would be specifically useful for critical reviewing of subjects which students have known superficially. This study will contribute to the development and improvement of efficacious educational curriculum for Korean Medicine by providing practical reference and template with self-directed group debate program.
