  • The Study of this paper is to establish the optimum fabricating condition of specimens using Vapor Deposition Polymerization Method which belongs to a mode of preparation of functional organic thin films with dry process and to develop thin film type humidity sensor which has good humidity sensitive Characteristics. Scanning electron microscopy Atomic force microscopy were used to analyze the characteristics of thin film and the basic structure of the humidity sensor is a parallel capacitor which consists of three layers of Al/PI/Al. The characteristics of fabricated samples were measured under various conditions and obtained linear characteristics in the range of 20∼80%RH independent of temperature change and low hysteresis characteristics.

  • Crystalline carbon nitride films have been attempted for an application of humidity sensors. The films were deposited on $Al_2O_3$ substrate having interdigitated electrodes by reactive RF magnetron sputtering system. The film revealed a good humidity-resistance characteristics as well as humidity-capacitance ones in the humidity range of $10\;{\sim}\;95\;RH(%)$. Temperature dependence was also investigated. These results suggest that carbon nitride film have a possibility for a new humidity-sensitive materials.

  • The magnetic field standards, facilities and capabilities available at NPL for the calibration of magnetometers and gradiometers and the measurement of the magnetic properties of materials will be introduced. The details of the low magnetic field facility will be explained and the capabilities this facility enables for the characterisation and calibration of ultra-sensitive room temperature magnetic sensors will be presented. Building on core material capabilities that are compliant with the IEC 60404 series of written standards, the example of a standard permeameter that has been modified for the measurement of strips for real world conditions is discussed. This was incorporated into a stress machine to measure the DC properties of the soft magnetic materials used by the partners of a collaborative industry led R&D project at stress levels of up to 700 MPa. The results for three materials are presented and the changes in the properties with applied stress compared to establish which material exhibits favourable properties.

  • Niobium powder was made from potassium heptafluoroniobite ($K_2NbF_7$) as the raw material using sodium (Na) as a reducing agent based on the hunter process. The apparatus for the experiment was designed and built specifically for the present study. The niobium particle size greatly increased as the reduction temperature increased from $710^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$. The particle size was fairly uniform, varying from $0.09{\mu}m$ to $0.4{\mu}m$ depending on the reduction temperatures. The niobium powder morphology and particle size are very sensitive to a reaction temperature in the metallothermic reduction process. The yield of niobium powder increased from 55% to 80% with a increasing a reaction temperature.

  • Inorganic basalt fiber (BF) is a novel sort of commercial concrete fiber which is made with basalt rocks. Previous studies have not sufficiently handled the behavior of self-compacted concrete, at elevated temperature, containing basalt fiber. Present endeavor covers experimental work to examine the characteristics of this material at high temperature considering different fiber content and applied temperature. Different tests were carried out to measure the mechanical properties such as compressive strength (fc), modulus of elasticity (E), Poisson's ratio, splitting tensile strength (fsplit), flexural strength (fflex), and slant shear strength (fslant) of HSC and hybrid concrete. Gene expression programming (GEP) was employed to propose new constitutive relationships depending on experimental data. It was noticed from the testing records that there is no remarkable effect of BF on the Poisson's ratio and modulus of elasticity of self-compacted concrete. The flexural strength of basalt fiber self-compacted concrete was not sensitive to temperature in comparison to other mechanical properties of concrete. Fiber volume fraction of 0.25% was found to be the optimum to some extend according to degradation of strength. The proposed GEP models were in good matching with the experimental results.

  • Effective surface area and morphology of a sensitive thin film are important factors for its applications in sensor systems for the analysis of physical properties. In this study, we investigated the morphologies, electrochemical properties, and applicability of zinc oxide multilayer thin films fabricated by electrodeposition and annealing. The microstructure and electrochemical properties of the zinc oxide films were dependent on temperature and applied voltage. The best characteristics were obtained at an applied voltage of -1.4 V and a temperature of $50^{\circ}C$. The morphologies also changed upon annealing. The results suggest that the zinc oxide films fabricated by electrodeposition and annealing can be applied as various sensor materials.

  • A probabilistic approach for evaluating failure risk is suggested in this paper. Probabilistic fracture analyses were performed for a pressurized pipe of a Cr-Mo steel reflecting variation of material properties at high temperature. A crack was assumed to be located along the weld fusion line. Probability density functions of major variables were determined by statistical analyses of material creep and creep crack growth data measured by the previous experimental studies by authors. Distributions of these variables were implemented in Monte Carlo simulation of this study. As a fracture parameter for characterizing growth of a fusion line crack between two materials with different creep properties, $C_t$ normalized with $C^*$ was employed. And the elapsed time was also normalized with tT, Resultingly, failure probability as a function of operating time was evaluated fur various cases. Conventional deterministic life assessment result was turned out to be conservative compared with that of probabilistic result. Sensitivity analysis for each input variable was conducted to understand the most influencing variable to the analysis results. Internal pressure, creep crack growth coefficient and creep coefficient were more sensitive to failure probability than other variables.

  • Dynamic deformation of metallic materials mostly accompanies substantial amounts of deformation heat. Since the flow stress of deformation is sensitive to temperature, implication of heat due to plastic work is essential to the evaluation of constitutive relations. In this study, a series of compression tests were conducted for SAF 2507 super duplex stainless steel at various temperatures and strain rates. The accumulation of plastic work was calculated through numerical integration and converted into the elevation of temperature. Subsequent logarithmic interpolation deduced isothermal flow surfaces, which were primary input data of finite element analysis. Simple closed die forging process was analyzed and optimized with commercial FEM code applying both raw and calibrated material database. The effect of accounting deformation heat was more noticeable in high-speed forming process.

  • A modified procedure for electroplating wastewater treatment using formaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide can destroy free cyanide. The representative diagram which is quite sensitive on reaction temperature is showed for this kinds of treatment. Principally free cyanide and some kinds of cyanide complex should be treated first, and then toxic heavy metals can be removed because cyanide component will be inhibited to remove other pollutants, if it is not destroyed perfectly. Formaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide are added in controlled amounts to cyanide treatment tank. Reasonable amounts of these chemicals are (HCHO/CN)=0.9 and ($H_2O_2/CN$)=1.1 in molar ratios, it is also variable on reaction temperature. Of course, actual treatment processes depending on plating material and chemical are good applicable, also to systematize operation manual for treating electroplating wastewater process, further works are desirable.

  • A ball-shape alumina arc-tube for low-wattage lamp was developed by the PIM process. An ultra high purity translucentgrade alumina powder was used. In injection molding process, a hot-runner type mold was developed. The translucent-grade alumina powder was extremely sensitive to contamination so that the injection molding condition and atmosphere control in the furnace should be taken care of with extreme caution. Contamination sources were pinpointed with EPMA. The arc-tube was molded in half and two halves were bonded in the middle by a new bonding technique at room temperature developed in this study.
