  • A new hardware temperature compensation method for hot-wire anemometer is investigated and an analog compensating circuit is proposed in this article. A photoconductive cell is introduced here as a variable resistor in the anemometer bridge and the linearized output of a thermistor is used to monitor the input of the photoconductive cell. In contrast with the conventional method, any type of temperature sensor can be used for compensation if once the output of thermometer varies linearly with temperature. So the present technique can diversify the compensating means from a conventional passive compensating resistance to currently available thermometers. Because the resistance of a photoconductive cell can be set precisely by adopting a stabilizing circuit whose operation is based on the integration function of the operational amplifier, the accuracy of compensation can be enhanced. As an example of linearized thermometer, thermistor sensor whose output is linearized by a series resistor was used to monitor the fluid temperature variation. Validation experiment is conducted in the temperature ranged from 30 deg. C to 60 deg. C and the velocity up to 40 m/s. It is found that the present technique can be adopted as a compensating circuit for anemometer and hot-wire type airflow meter.

  • We have implement어 a bust mode optical transmitter using digital temperature compensation architecture with a microprocessor. Instead of previous analog real time technique, we used digital sampling and holding technique for the temperature compensation in order to get stable high speed data transmission of the laser diode. This digital temperature compensation technique should be complemented the previous analog method with accuracy and effectiveness in the over Gb/s transmitting application.

  • This letter presents a high performance 2.4 GHz two-stage power amplifier (PA) operating in the temperature range from $-30^{\circ}C$ to $+85^{\circ}C$ for IEEE 802.11g, wireless local area network application. It is implemented in InGaP/GaAs hetero-junction bipolar transistor technology and has a bias circuit employing a temperature compensation technique for error vector magnitude (EVM) performance. The technique uses a resistor made with a base layer of HBT. The design improves EVM performance in cold temperatures by increasing current. The implemented PA has a dynamic EVM of less than 4%, a gain of over 26 dB, and a current less than 130 mA below the output power of 19 dBm across the temperature range from $-30^{\circ}C$ to $+85^{\circ}C$.

  • Due to the fact that bare FBG sensors are very fragile, bare FBG sensor is not properly applied in practical infrastructures as it is not suitable to the rudeness of construction. Therefore packaged FBG sensors are developed for construction application. Since FBG senses strain and temperature simultaneously, temperature compensation for FBG strain sensors is indispensable. In this paper, temperature compensation techniques for steel sleeve packaged FBG sensors are brought forward. And its application on monitoring concrete beam was carried to test the feasibility of the temperature compensation technique. Temperature compensation technique used in this paper is feasible to be extended to structure health monitoring in civil engineering especially in large infrastructures etc.

  • A new temperature compensation technique for hot-wire anemometer is proposed in this article. In contrast to the available compensation techniques, a photoconductive cell is introduced here as a variable resistor in the bridge. The major advantage of adopting an active component such as photoconductive cell is that temperature compensation can be achieved by using any kind of temperature sensors, once the output of temperature sensor is given as a voltage. Thereby, the temperature compensation can be made automatically and intelligently by a computer software or a hardware device. Validation experiments using a photoconductive cell with a thermocouple-thermometer are conducted in the temperature range from 3$0^{\circ}C$ to 5$0^{\circ}C$ and the velocity ranges from 8 m/s to 18 m/s.

  • As bare Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors are very fragile, bare FBG without encapsulation is not properly applied in practical infrastructures directly due to the harsh environment in practical engineering. Steel sleeve packaged FBG strain sensor is widely used in civil engineering. Since FBG senses both strain and temperature simultaneously, for accurate measurement of strain, temperature compensation for FBG strain sensors is indispensable. In this paper, based on the FBG's strain and temperature sensing principles, the temperature compensation techniques for steel sleeve packaged FBG sensors are brought forward. And the experiment of concrete early-age shrinkage monitoring by dual FBG sensors is carried out to test the feasibility of the temperature compensation technique.

  • A silicon pressure sensor made of a full bridge of diffused resistors was designed and fabricated using semiconductor integrated circuit process. Thin diaphragms with 30\ulcorner thickness were obtained using anisotropic wet chemical etching technique. Our device showed strong temperature dependence. Compensation networks are used to compensate for the temperature dependence of the pressure sensor. The bridge supply voltage having positive temperature coefficient by compensation networks was utilized against the negative temperature coefficient of bridge output voltage. The sensitivity fluctuation of pressure sensor before temperature compensation was -1700 ppm/\ulcorner, while it reduced to -710ppm\ulcorner with temperature compensation. Our result shows that the we could develop accurate and reliable pressure sensor over a wide temperature range(-20\ulcorner~50\ulcorner).

  • This paper introduces a GP(Genetic Programming) based robust technique for temperature compensation in short-range prediction. Development of an efficient MOS(Model Output Statistics) is necessary to correct systematic errors of the model, because forecast models do not reliably determine weather conditions. Most of MOS use a linear regression to compensate a prediction model, therefore it is hard to manage an irregular nature of prediction. In order to solve the problem, a nonlinear and symbolic regression method using GP is suggested. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of the estimation by a GP based nonlinear MOS for 3 days temperatures in Korean regions. This method is then compared to the UM model and has shown superior results. The training period of 2007-2009 summer is used, and the data of 2010 summer is adopted for verification.

  • Instead of the incandescent lamps the LED lamps have been used on the traffic signal lamp with the advantages of small loss, no lens and long life. In this paper, we have compared three kinds of the LED controller structures and showed the LED array decision methods. We studied the temperature characteristics on LED and the temperature compensation network. The experimental results showed that the electrical characteristics of three kinds of the LED controller structures were different each other. We concluded that the temperature compensation is the important technique, the best compensation network has the ${\pm}10%$ variation for the luminous intensity.

  • It is often desirable that manufacturers and users can convert the reference white of display into the preferred color temperature by controlling the color temperature that is one of representative color characteristics of a light source. Accordingly, this paper proposes an efficient method of color compensation for displaying the uncalibrated video signal in PDP-TV and is also shown to be successfully coupled with flexible color temperature conversion based on the signal processing technique.
