  • In the earth telescope for space observation, the adaptive optical (AO) system that immediately compensates atmospheric turbulence is helpful to get high-resolution images. An adaptive optics for earth telescopes is very attractive, since the Earth telescopes can be made at lower costs and have larger optical apertures than space telescopes. Generally. in order to remove the wavefront error produced by atmospheric turbulence, a deformable mirror, whose surface shape changes in a controllable way in response to a drive signal, is used. The characteristics and patterns of actuators are very important for the effective control of a deformable mirror. The mirror surface shape deformed by one actuator is defined as an influence function and the deformable mirror can be effectively modeled and designed using this influence function. In this paper. by simplifying the actual influence function obtained by FEM analyses into the Gaussian function and introducing the coupling coefficient between actuators, the influence function is constructed. The proper coupling coefficient of the target system can be obtained by performance analyses of a deformable mirror for various coupling coefficients. Using the constructed influence function, the deformable mirror with equally spaced triangular and square actuator patterns is analyzed for various spacings and an effective actuator pattern is proposed.

  • The collimator which makes a collimated beam, is an essential instrument for assembly and evaluation of telescopes. Recently, the Cassegrain type collimator has been widely used for its compact size as the focal length of high resolution cameras becomes longer. However, this kind of collimator has a disadvantage in that the secondary mirror is a heat source which can degrade the evaluation accuracy for an IR camera system. In this paper, we present the fabrication and measurement process for an off-axis parabolic mirror with the physical diameter pf 1 m, effective diameter 930 mm, and the focal length 6 m. After four months of works we obtained the final surface wave-front error of 30.4 nm rms ($\lambda$/138, ${\lambda}=4.2\;{\mu}m$), which is capable of evaluation of an IR camera as well as a visible camera.

  • In this paper, a Raman spectrometer is designed to detect chemicals contaminating the ground. The system is based on Raman spectroscopy, which is spectral analysis of scattered light from chemicals, induced by a laser. The system consists of a transmitting-optics module with a laser to induce Raman-scattered light from the sample, a receiving-optics module to collect the scattered light, and a spectrograph to separate the collected light into a wavelength spectrum. The telescope, a part of the receiving-optics module, is designed to produce a focal spot in the same position for variable measurement distances using the code V simulator, considering the distance change between the system and the road. The Raman spectra of 12 chemicals on a glass surface and on a concrete sample were measured. Intensity differences between the Raman spectra acquired on a glass surface and on a concrete sample were observed, but the characteristics of the spectra according to the chemicals on them were similar. Additionally, the Raman spectrum of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) was measured at various distances. The measured and simulated optical throughputs were similar. In conclusion, it is confirmed that with this system the Raman spectrum can be measured, irrespective of the distance change.

  • Cosmic reionization era in the early universe was playing a leading part on making the present universe we know. However, we have not been able to reveal the main contributor to the cosmic reionization to date. Faint quasars have been mentioned as the alternative due to the uncertainty of the faint end slope of the quasars luminosity function. With the availability of the deep (~25mag) images from Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) Strategic Program survey, we have tried to find more quasar with low luminosity in the ELAIS-N1 field. Faint quasar candidates were selected from several multi-band color cut criteria based on the track of the simulated quasar at z ~ 5. The Infrared Medium-deep Survey (IMS) and The UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) - Deep Extragalactic Survey (DXS) provide J band information which is used to cover the relatively long wavelength range of quasar spectra. To search the reliable candidates with possible Lyman break, medium-band observation was performed by the SED camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse(SQUEAN) in the McDonald observatory and Seoul National University 4k Camera(SNUCAM) in the Maidanak observatory. Photometric redshifts of the observed candidates were estimated from chi-square minimization. Also, we predicted the importance of the faint quasar to the cosmic reionization from the expected number density of the faint quasar.

  • Even in an era where 8-meter class telescopes are common, small telescopes are considered very valuable research facilities since they are available for rapid follow-up or long term monitoring observations. To maximize the usefulness of small telescopes in Korea, we established the SomangNet, a network of 0.4-1.0 m class optical telescopes operated by Korean institutions, in 2020. Here, we give an overview of the project, describing the current participating telescopes, its scientific scope and operation mode, and the prospects for future activities. SomangNet currently includes 10 telescopes that are located in Australia, USA, and Chile as well as in Korea. The operation of many of these telescopes currently relies on operators, and we plan to upgrade them for remote or robotic operation. The latest SomangNet science projects include monitoring and follow-up observational studies of galaxies, supernovae, active galactic nuclei, symbiotic stars, solar system objects, neutrino/gravitational-wave sources, and exoplanets.

  • In this paper, we discuss the program implementation and system optimization for the effective transfer of huge amount of data. In VLBI which is observing the celestial bodies by using radio telescope hundreds thousands km apart, it is necessary for each VLBI observatory to transfer up to terabytes of observed data. For this reason, e-VLBI research based on advanced network is being actively carried out for the transfer of data efficiently. Following this trend, in this paper, we discuss design & implementation of system for the high speed Gbps data transfer rates. As a data transfer protocol, we use UDP for designing data transmission program with much higher speeds than currently available via VTP(VLBI Transport Protocol). Tsunami-UDP algorithms is applied to implementing data transfer program so that transmission performance could be maximize, also we make it possible to transfer observed data more fast and reliable through optimization of computer systems in each VLBI statopm.

  • I will presents the analysis of the gas properties of the protoplanetary disk surrounding the young low-mass (about 1.2Msun) triple star, GG Tau A. This work makes use of ALMA observations of rotational lines of CO (12CO, 13CO and C18O) together NOEMA observations of a few dozens of other molecules. While the CO emission gives information on the molecular layer close to the disk atmosphere, its less abundant isotopologues 13CO and C18O bring information much deeper in the molecular layer. I will present the analysis of the morphology and kinematics of the gas disk using the CO isotopologues. A radiative transfer model of the ring in CO isotopologues will also be presented. The subtraction of this model from the original data reveals the weak emission of the molecular gas lying inside the cavity. Thus, I am able to evaluate the properties of the gas inside the cavity, such as the gas dynamics, excitation conditions, and the amount of mass in the cavity. High angular resolution observations of CO reveals sprials induced by embedded planet(s) located near the 3:2:1 mean-motion resonance that help to explain the special morphology of the circumbinary disk. I also discuss some chemical properties of the GG Tau A disk. I report the first detection of H2S and C2S in a protoplanetary disk. The molecule abundance relative to 13CO of about twenties other molecules will also be given. In GG Tau A, the detections of rare molecules such as H2S and C2S have been probably possible because the disk is more massive (a factor about 3-5) than other disks where the molecules was searched. Such a large disk mass makes the system suitable to detect rare molecules and to study cold-chemistry in protoplanetary disks.

  • We present the analysis results of the simultaneous multifrequency observations of the blazar 4C +28.07. The observations were conducted by the Interferometric Monitoring of Gamma-ray Bright Active Galactic Nuclei (iMOGABA) program, which is a key science program of the Korean Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) Network (KVN). Observations of the iMOGABA program for 4C +28.07 were conducted from 16 January 2013 (MJD 56308) to 13 March 2020 (MJD 58921). We also used γ-ray data from the Fermi Large Array Telescope (Fermi-LAT) Light Curve Repository, covering the energy range from 100 MeV to 100 GeV. We divided the iMOGABA data and the Fermi-LAT data into five periods from 0 to 4, according to the prosody of the 22 GHz data and the presence or absence of the data. In order to investigate the characteristics of each period, the light curves were plotted and compared. However, a peak that formed a hill was observed earlier than the period of a strong γ-ray flare at 43-86 GHz in period 3 (MJD 57400-58100). Therefore, we assumed that the minimum total CLEANed flux density for each frequency was quiescent flux (Sq) in which the core of 4C +28.07 emitted the minimum, with the variable flux (Svar) obtained by subtracting Sq from the values of the total CLEANed flux density. We then compared the variability of the spectral indices (α) between adjacent frequencies through a spectral analysis. Most notably, α22-43 showed optically thick spectra in the absence of a strong γ-ray flare, and when the flare appeared, α22-43 became optically thinner. In order to find out the characteristics of the magnetic field in the variable region, the magnetic field strength in the synchrotron self-absorption (BSSA) and the equipartition magnetic field strength (Beq) were obtained. We found that BSSA is largely consistent with Beq within the uncertainty, implying that the SSA region in the source is not significantly deviated from the equipartition condition in the γ-ray quiescent periods.

  • The extragalactic background suggests half the energy generated by stars was reprocessed into the infrared (IR) by dust. At z~1.3, 90% of star formation is obscured by dust. To fully understand the cosmic star formation history, it is critical to investigate infrared emission. AKARI has made deep mid-IR observation using its continuous 9-band filters in the NEP field ($5.4deg^2$), using ~10% of the entire pointed observations available throughout its lifetime. However, there remain 11,000 AKARI infrared sources undetected with the previous CFHT/Megacam imaging (r ~25.9ABmag). Redshift and IR luminosity of these sources are unknown. These sources may contribute significantly to the cosmic star-formation rate density (CSFRD). For example, if they all lie at 1< z <2, the CSFRD will be twice as high at the epoch. We are carrying out deep imaging of the NEP field in 5 broad bands (g, r, i, z, and y) using Hyper Suprime-Camera (HSC), which has 1.5 deg field of view in diameter on Subaru 8m telescope. This will provide photometric redshift information, and thereby IR luminosity for the previously-undetected 11,000 faint AKARI IR sources. Combined with AKARI's mid-IR AGN/SF diagnosis, and accurate midIR luminosity measurement, this will allow a complete census of cosmic star-formation/AGN accretion history obscured by dust.
