Over the last decade, some Korean enterprises have emerged to become global players in their specialized products. How have they achieved such tremendous technological progress in a short period of time? This paper explores that question by examining the characteristics of technological innovation activities at major Korean enterprises. The paper begins with a brief review of the stages of economic growth and science and technology development in Korea. Then, the existing literature, explaining the Korean innovation model, is analyzed in order to establish a new framework for the Korean innovation model. Specifically, Korean firms have experienced three sequential phases, and thus, the Korean model, at the firm level, can be coined as "path-following," "path-revealing," and "path-creating." Then, the stylized facts in the first phase (path-following) and the second phase (path-revealing) are discussed, in the context of empirical evidence from the areas of memory chips, automobiles, shipbuilding, and steel. In terms of technology development, the Korean model has evolved as "collective learning" in the first phase, "collective recombination" of existing knowledge and technology in the second phase, and is assumed as "collective creativity" in the third phase. Ultimately, all three can be classified as "collective creation". Korean firms now face a transition in the modes of technological innovation in order to efficiently implement the third phase. To achieve remarkable progress again, as they did in the past, and to sustain the growth momentum, Korean firms should challenge new dimensions such as creative technological ideas, distinctive technological capabilities, and unique innovation systems -- all of which connote 'uniqueness'. Finally, some lessons from the Korean technological innovation experience are addressed.

This paper explored gifted students' perspectives on using educational technologies in their schools in the Saudi context. Adopting a descriptive research approach, a questionnaire was used to collect information from a sample of 196 gifted secondary school students in Jeddah. Findings showed that educational technology was used to a high degree, with an overall mean of 3.74 and 4.06 for the degree of importance of technological usage. Based on the findings, the researcher forwards some recommendations for effectively using such technologies to promote gifted students' abilities and talents.

As the COVID-19 continues spreading, Korea's Ministry of Education (MOE) announced that all public schools, including elementary, middle, and high schools, must begin on April 9, 2020, via online teaching for the first time in the nation's history. There were opposite views among educators regarding the unprecedented attempt to start school online. This study intends to analyze the strategies and policies of distance learning in the public education sector using the experiences in Korea, which has been dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic over the past six months, and thus presents educational implications that may be of interest other countries in the post-COVID-19 era. This study first conceptualized the distance education policy in two domains: technological infrastructure and technological teaching and learning, and then examined what specific policies have supported distance education in school settings. For the analysis of policies supporting distance education in Korea, this study analyzed the relevant documents that include the annual plan and press release uploaded on the website of MOE from early March until early August. Accordingly, 13 documents that contain the distance education policy were analyzed in this study. To provide equal opportunities for all students and ensure fair resource allocations, technological inequality should be discussed in the context of educational inequality. Finally, this study looks at how strategies and policies could be related to educational equality and equity.

This study seeks to empirically investigate the impact of transformational leadership on employees' innovation with the mediating effect of technological diversity. Employees have evolved into leaders in organizing work within institutions over the last few decades. This shift presents new demands for leaders, who are forced to reinvent individual workers while also improving workplace innovation. This research proposes a conceptual model for considering transformational leadership and the impact of technological diversity on innovation. Structured questionnaire is used in the study and the analysis of the data from 633 employees of universities in the United Arab Emirates uses stratified sampling technique and hypotheses verified through Structural Equations Modelling (AMOS-21). According to the results, transformational leadership has a big effect on employees' innovation. Furthermore, in the relationship between transformational leadership and workforce innovation, technological diversity has a partial mediation impact. This research adds to the growing body of knowledge about how transformational leadership influences employees' innovation and how it affects employees' success, especially in the context of UAE-based universities. Overall, this research contributes to the previous studies wherein transformational leadership plays a critical role in influencing the innovative performance of employees and that, in turn, will promote diversification of technology in the organization.

Many scholars have addressed the technological convergence of small-medium sized firms in Korea and their impact on the economic growth of nation. Nevertheless, most studies have been investigated the relationship between entrepreneurship and venture creation, and a few studies have analyzed the innovation and technological convergence of SMEs. The purpose of this research is to gain industrial insight into the technological convergence and to suggest a dynamic growth policy for entrepreneurs of SMEs to improve their convergence performance based on IT and BT. Therefore, we intend to propose solutions to these key questions in convergence such as; what are the key patterns in the process of technological convergence of SMEs on IT and BT, and what kinds of strategy do their need? In order to answer these research questions, we adopt network analysis using patent citation information. Results of network analysis revealed that building ecosystem based on government and universities is one of the most important factors for the future growth of SMEs in Korea. Also, the fit between technological convergence direction of SMEs and division of convergence structure of government and universities will be positively associated with dynamic growth of SMEs in Korea. In conclusion, this research extends the current studies on important aspects of SMEs in the technological convergence process by proposing their growth in convergence process to a newly converging context, IT and BT, and shed light on the integrative perspectives of crucial roles of SMEs on innovation performance in the IT and BT technological convergence.

This paper examines the social development process of technological innovation for national emergency management. There are relatively few studies on how technological innovations are developed and deployed within social context. This paper investigates innovation processes within social contexts and the role of innovation actors such as citizens, government, and private sector. The the Real-time Disaster Management System (RDMS) is an innovation for citizens to transmit digital images and video clips on disaster toward professional organizations to respond to disasters. This case shows how an innovation in disaster management was developed by social interactions, how open innovation mechanism was deployed, and how end-users involved in innovation processes for disaster management. Finally this paper suggests implications to accelerate innovations for social welfare and social change.

We conducted a survey with the objective of studying the teachers' perspective of their students' learning in traditional calculus and its teaching strategies. This survey was targeted at mathematics teachers of the junior colleges, polytechnics and universities in Singapore. In this paper we present findings of the first part of our survey. The first part addresses various issues related to the mathematics teachers' perception of the current status of calculus education in Singapore. The findings of this study will be unique in Singapore context because, according to the best of our knowledge, no such survey on calculus education has ever been undertaken in Singapore.

This paper examines the emergence of mechanical engineers in the technological and social context of professionalization in England. Despite their technological progress, most steam engine wrights and machine tool builders were individual workshop owners working to order in the early 19th century. In the 1830s and 1840s, however, the railway boom produced so called railway engineers by providing them with some managerial experience as the canal building did in civil engineering. Railway engineers played a dominant role to establish the Institute of Mechanical Engineers(IME) in 1848. It was IME that stated what is a mechanical engineer and helped its members be in the similitude of the civil engineers in social and technological activities.

Behaviour on social media sites need to be clearly defined so that students would know the clear distinction between the acceptable and unacceptable acts they are supposed to exhibit whenever they get on social media platforms. With the adoption of the survey approach, this study randomly selected 204 students from two renowned universities in Ghana to participate in the study. Using the theory of Technological Determinism, the results of this study indicated that technology has the power to influence human behaviour in a positive and negative manner. The results also brought out the acceptable and unacceptable behaviour that should or should not be exhibited on social media sites by students. The study established the importance of the theory of Technological Determinism to media use. It also gave a vivid description of what is right and not right on social media sites.

유비쿼터스 시대를 앞당길 기술로는 USN, RFID, Homenetwork 등이 있다. 이와 같은 기술들은 상황인식 시스템을 구현하게 된다. 상황을 인식한다는 것은 사람, 사물, 환경이 실시간으로 정보를 유선 및 무선으로 제공할 수 있는 환경을 뜻한다. 따라서 개인정보, 정보 프라이버시, 광의의 프라이버시가 심각한 위협에 직면할 것이다. 본 연구는 USN 환경 하에서 상황 인식 시스템이 가지고 있는 개인정보의 위협을 분석하고 이를 보호할 수 있는 기술들을 제시하였다. 각 기술들은 보호의 영역들을 세분화 시킨 정보 프라이버시에 적용할 수 있는 기술들이다. 본 연구를 통하여 정보 프라이버시의 개념적 재해석과 기술적 제시를 통한 통찰력과 종합적 해결 방안을 기대해본다.
