  • Globalization and the development of technology have turned creativity into a necessity. Numerous countries consider creativity to be the major model of economic development. In this era of the knowledge-based economy, creativity is becoming a catalyst for the development of millions of people around the world. Irina Bokova, the former Director General of UNESCO, has stated that the cultural and creative industries have a capital of 2 250 billion US dollars, almost 30 million jobs worldwide in the economies of advanced countries and developing countries (Cultural Times, 2015).   • In this work, the non-ionic polyethylene oxide(PEO)/phenolic formaldehyde resin(PFR) retention system, which was less affected by furnish charge, was analyzed for possibility and effectiveness when using recycled stock. When the micropolymer was added at the PEO/PFR retention system and the PAM/bentonite retention system, performance of retention and drainage was improved. When the cationic micropolymer was added on the PEO/PFR retention system, the highest retention was achieved. The Polyacrylamide(PAM)/bentonite system induced flocculation of white pitch by electrostatic flocculation. On the other hand, the non-ionic PEO/PFR retention system induced less flocculation of white pitch than the PAM/bentonite retention system.

Effects of the Changes in Handsheet Structure on the Water Absorption and Moisture Absorption (수초지 구조변화에 따른 흡수·흡습 특성 변화 연구)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the influence of the changes in handsheet structure by beating, wet pressing and the addition of wood flour spacer on the water absorption and the moisture absorption properties. The higher beating treatment of BKP resulted in the denser structure of handsheet samples, which leaded to the lower water and moisture absorption. The wet pressing showed the similar effects by reducing the bulk of handsheets. In case of the handsheet samples with similar bulk structure made of different beaten pulps, the severer beating treatment increased the water absorption and the moisture absorption. The addition of the wood flour spacer resulted in the higher bulk following the higher water and moisture adsorption. Since the water and the moisture absorption properties of paper products could greatly affect on not only the product quality but also the process runnability, the control of the water response of paper product has been considered as very important technology. The results of this study might be useful for control of water and moisture absorption properties of paper products.

Improvement of Bonding Strength and Water Resistance of Corrugated Board (전분 접착제의 접착 효율 및 골판지의 내수성 향상을 위한 첨가제의 적용)

  • In order to improve the bonding efficiency of starch adhesives and water resistance of corrugated board, mixing ratio of additives dosage was changed and its effects were analyzed. When the additives dosage was increased, bonding strength, vertical compression strength, bursting strength and water resistance were increased, because of hydroxyl groups or acetyl groups in starch adhesives and cellulose fibers of corrugated board were cross-linked by additives. When 1.0% glyoxal dosage was added, flat crush strength and vertical compression strength were increased. With 1.5% glyoxal, bonding strength and bursting strength were increased. However, 2.0% glyoxal dosage was added, most of strength except bursting strength were decreased. Thus, when the appropriate amount of additives are added during corrugated board production process, increased bonding efficiency of starch adhesives and higher water resistance of corrugated board can be achieved.

  • In this study, paper mill applicability of two kinds of cotton pulps which have different initial freeness, fiber length and intrinsic fiber strength were investigated. Basic properties such as CED viscosity, fiber length, and crystallinity of major two kinds of cotton pulps were analyzed, and beatability of cotton pulps and physical properties of handsheet made from two kinds of cotton pulps were compared. Laboratory beating was performed at different refining conditions such as refining loads and freenesses. Relationship between beating degree and physical properties of handsheet were compared to seek optimum condition of refining for different cotton pulps application to paper mill.

  • This paper suggests the new performance evaluation system which is suitable for high speed EFEM(Equipment Front End Module) device using a semiconductor process. An EFEM consisting of multi-joint robots is the mainstay of semiconductor automation, shuffling silicon wafers or quartz photo-masks between ultra-clean storage carriers and a variety of processing, measurement and testing systems. The theoretical and experimental studies for the development of performance evaluation system have been carried out. The presented results from the above investigation show considerably developed performance evaluation system for the high speed EFEM Especially, it is efficient for prepareing the WTO/TBT(Technical Barriers to Trade) Agreement and the PL(Product Liability) law.
