  • The seed morphology of 25 taxa (8 genera) of Alsineae (Alsinoideae, Caryophyllaceae) in Korea was examined using stereo (SM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in order to evaluate their diagnostic values and taxonomic implications. Circular, comma-shaped, ellipsoid, ovate, pyriform, reniform, and sub-circular seed shapes were identified. The seeds of the examined taxa range from 0.28 to 4.10 mm in length and from 0.33 to 3.10 mm in width; the smallest one was found in Sagina japonica, while the largest was in Honkenya peploides var. major. A hilar appendage was found in Cerastium, Honkenya, Moehringia, and strophioles were only observed in the genus Moehringia. Based on the examination of epidermal cells of the seed surface, four micromorphological types can be distinguished, viz., the colliculate-papillate (Col-Pap), colliculate-columellate (Col-Cll), colliculate-simple (Col-Sim), and smooth (Sm) types. Descriptions of the testa shape, margin, and the degree of elevation of the anticlinal cell walls, and the outer periclinal cell walls are summarized for the tribe. Taxonomic implications of the seed micromorphological characters were also discussed, in comparison with an earlier taxonomic system.

  • Morphological characters of inflorescence, spikelet, rachilla, glume, lemma and palea about 17 taxa of Korean Poa L. were investigated to evaluate their taxonomic significances. The bulbil present or not, inflorescence shape, callus shape of lemma and surface shape of palea were thought to be the subgenus characters. The keels shapes of palea, the number of lower glume, lateral nerve shape of lemma were thought to be the section characters. The number of floret, rachilla present or not, the number of lower glume, nerve shape of glume, surface shape of lemma were thought to be the species characters. Consequently, 17 taxa of the Korean Poa L. is classified into 3 subgenus (Ochlopoa, Stenopoa, Stenopoa), 7 section(Arenariae, Ochlopoa, Homalopoa, Poa, Pandemos, Tichopoa, Stenopoa). 6 taxa, P. ullungdoensis, P. takeshimana and P. matsumurae, P. nipponica, P. radula, P. viridula, not included in the existing classification system, were suggested to their taxonomic category in infragenic rank, and P. nemoralis, had been included in section Stenopoa of subgenus Stenopoa, was proposed to move to section Poa of subgenus Poa. P. ullungdoensis, reported as new species in 1955, was grasped its taxonomic identity.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand and compare the characteristics of the content organization system of three Environment textbooks currently used, and to examine its connectivity with the teaching & teaming methods included in the Environment subject part of the 7th Korean National Curriculum. For the analysis three Environment textbooks for middle school and their teacher's guide books by three companies. published(A, B, and C) The result of the taxonomic analysis showed that three Environment books had different steps to get to the lesson class unit in the way that A of six steps, B of five steps and C of seven steps. The amount of main text was different In the domains of'Human and Environment','Environmental Problems and its Counter-plan'and'Environmental Conservation'of three textbooks each. All of three textbooks had the biggest percentage in sub-domains of'Living Environment to Keep'and'Global Environmental Problem'in 'Environmental Problems and its Counter-plan'domain. Considering teaching & loaming methods all of three textbooks contained many activities as 55 in A, 66 in H and 91 in C. Among 9 teaching 8E teaming methods and others listed in the Environment subject part of the 7th Korean National Curriculum, the investigation method is most frequently used in all of three textbooks. The drama, the paly and the case study were used rarely as teaching & teaming methods in activities In the consideration of the content amount regarding academic fields, it was revealed that three textbooks overemphasized the aspect of natural sciences comparing the aspect of human & social sciences aspect as a whole. Generally the appendix section of all three textbooks were well organized to support the teaching and teaming activities in main text.

  • Phylogenetic classification of the Aphyllophorales was conducted based on the analysis of nuclear small subunit ribosomal RNA (nuc SSU rDNA) sequence. Based on phylogenetic groupings and taxonomic characters, 16 families were recognized and discussed. Although many of the characters had more or less homoplasies, miroscopic characters such ad the mitic system and clamp, spore amyloidity and rot type appeared to be important in the classification of the Aphyllophorales. Phylogenetically significant families were newly defined to improve the classification of the order Aphyllophorales.

  • Compare to investigate the taxonomic utility of infragenera system and interspecific of Asian Geranium, we examined the fruit and seed morphology from 35 taxa. The fruit shape and seed's dispersal way did so that may divide subgenus or some part section to do could reason evolutionary trends. That is, at seed dispersal, the awns of section Geranium of subgenus Geranium, ramains attached at the top of rostrum, though fairy easily broken off, because seed increases awn's elasticity by diffusive way, it is long characteristic seed\`s dispersal distance, and subgenus Robertium observed that seed dispersal distance is short because it is no awn's elasticity by way that seed dispersal is gone as awn drops with rostrum. Also, section Geranium of subgenus Geranium and subgenus Robertium act role that awn keeps temporarily breed swerving with mericarp instead of bristle because section Tuberosa of subgenus Geranium is not bristled function that keep temporarily breed because mericarp bristled on base at seed dispersal do while. Therefore, is thought that is talon that when consider formation's development and function regarding this seed dispersal function, subgenus Geraniuum evolves more than subgenus Robertium. Seed morphology can divide by 2 subgenera(Geranium, Robertium) according to pattern of seed coat. and Seed's morphology characteristic(whole shape, color, form of seed apical and base, micropyle area, hilum area, chalaza, and position of seed hilum area), can distinguish some species, but is thought that is not reasonable as for discernment characteristic form and nature by repetition of characteristic form and nature. Especially, infrasection do in fruit and seed's morphology that is handling in this research that know to argue classification system and relationship by repetition of characteristic form and nature difficult. To all reliable truth, cytological, ecological, embryology, and molecular genetics research about talon is considered that should be achieved section Geranium that do not handle yet.

  • Unarmored dinoflagellates, in the family Kareniaceae, include harmful or toxic bloom-forming species, which are associated with massive fish kills and mortalities of marine organisms worldwide. The occurrence and distribution of the toxigenic species in the family Kareniaceae were investigated in the brackish and coastal waters of Korea between July 2018 and October 2020. During the survey, we collected seven newly recorded species; Karenia papilionacea, Karlodinium digitatum, Karl. veneficum, Karl. zhouanum, Takayama acrotrocha, T. helix, and T. tasmanica. A total of fifteen strains of the seven taxa were successfully established as clonal cultures and examined using LM, SEM, and molecular phylogeny inferred from LSU rDNA sequences. Herein, we present the taxonomic information, morphological features, and molecular phylogenetic positions of the unrecorded dinoflagellate species collected from Korean coastal waters.

  • Purpose: This ethnography is aimed at describing the health care seeking behavior of elderly details in their socio-cultural context. The research question is 'under what conditions did elderly informants decide to use certain professional health care services and how do they make use of all the available resources?' Method: 10 sessions of fieldwork were conducted in the two agricultural villages between Sep. 1999 and Oct. 2002. The data for this paper came from participant observation with 14 informants. In the process of analysis I used proxemic and taxonomic techniques. Result: Informants decided to use a certain health care system according to their folk definition of illness. They prefer to use the health services where they felt more comfortable and free. They wished to be care from intuitive and holistic healers. Social network and having health resources was also important factor. Conclusion: We need more comprehensive research model to reach a plausible explanation. Combined qualitative-quantitative research is needed to get practical data to develop effective health care systems for the elderly.

  • A chemosystematic study on euphorbiaceous plants in Korea has been performed by using phenolic constituents. The phenolic characteristics of subfamilies, genera and species were well distinguished from one another. Hydrolyzable tannins as constituents were considered to be a valuable taxonomic character in elucidating systematic relationships among the related taxa whereas flavonoids could be used in the classification of infraspecific taxa in this family. The phenolic fingerprints of each of the plants would be considered as a good tool to identify the species. In comparison with the morphological classification system, the chemical relationship supported the subfamilial system of Webster (1975) and the further division of Euphorbia sensu lato by Hurusawa (1954).

  • The pollen and revisional study aimed for an elucidation of taxonomic delimitation and relationship of Thalictrum taxa in Korea, especially among the morphologically confused taxa. Pollen grains of 63 populations of 17 taxa were investigated by light and scanning electron microscopy. Although pollen morphology was not useful for the species classification, it revealed a tendency in which Sects. Physocarpum, Erythrandra and Tripterium having broad filaments and round-tipped anthers possess closer distance between adjacent pores, less echinus number per unit area, smaller pollen, and higher echinus, on the contrary to Sects. Omalophysa, Camptonotum and Thalictrum having filiform filaments and acute-acuminate- or more or less round-tipped anthers. The palynological result did not support several section system by Tamura (1992) but one section system by Lecoyer (1885). If a infrasectional system is needed, it was suggested that the system dividing the section into two (Clauiformes and Filiformes sensu Lecoyer) would be natural on the basis of stamen and pollen characteristics. Revisional study found out that 17 taxa(16 species) of Thalictrum are distributed in Korean including T. filimentosum which presence in Korea was not confirmed.
