  • Objective: Companies want to expand their business by providing their services at other devices and new services based upon existing services. Therefore, they look for building brand identity by providing same experience throughout devices and services. Background: Many services are available to use at multiple devices including mobile phones, tablet, personal computers, and televisions, thanks to proliferation of n-screen and cloud technology. Method: It was discussed that consistency, which emphasizes the regularity and has been one of essential aspects of user interface design, seems not effective to be applied to n-screen services, owing to different screen size, input and output peripherals, usage environment and users' attitude. Results: A new definition of same experience among different devices and services, called coherence, was introduced and abstraction levels of user interfaces were proposed as the denominator of defining coherence. Then types of users' task knowledge at each abstraction level were discussed with examples. Conclusion: This paper concluded by discussing design requirements for designing coherent user interfaces among devices and services.

  • In this paper, we proposed small scale real-time operating system for embedded system. Real-time system is characterized by the severe consequences that result if logical as well as timing correctness properties of system are not met. On real-time system, real-time operating system allows real-time applications to be designed and expanded easily. Functions can be added without requiring major changes to the software. We design small scale real-time operating system for preemptive kernel, and design kernel component such as multitasking, scheduler, task priority, semaphore, inter-task communication, clock tick timer, ISR(Interrupt Service Routine) mechanism has low interrupt latency.

  • Some problems to assess the safety of automated man-machine system are studied in many ways. The difficulty occurred in this system is the vagueness of human behavior. Fuzzy set theory is used to assess the human behavior in safety analysis. The unsafe behavior listed top 10 in accident statistics would be explained as the factors of human vagueness. Three cases are considered, which consist of man-machine system as man-man, man-machine, machine-machine types. For the design of safe task, using characteristics of work performance, each motion cycle time is required to know the rate of learning. Approach of human behavior to the standard motion means more safe motion. It is important to design the works as to minimize the time performance to the standard motion's, which utilize the control of risk potential with easy. In that process, use of fuzzy set theory is appropriate to analyze the human behavior to identify its vagueness.

  • Objective: This study presents an observation and analysis on behavioral characteristics of old users in comparison to young users in the use of control on display interface. Background: Touch interface which allows users to control directly on display, is conceived as delight and easy way of human-computer interaction. Due to the advantage in stimulus-response ensemble, the old users, who typically experiencing difficulties in interacting with computer, would expected to have better experience in using computing machines. Method: Twenty nine participants who are over 50 years old and 14 participants who are in 20s years old were participated in this study. Three primary tasks in touch interface, which are tap, move, and flick, were delivered by the users. For the tap task, response time and point of touch response were collected and the response bias was calculated for each trial. For the move task, delivery time and the distance of finger movements were recorded for each trial. For the flick task, task completion time and flicking distance were recorded. Results: From the collected behavioral data, temporal and spatial differences between young and old users behavior were analyzed. The older users showed difficulty in completing move task requiring eye-hand coordination.

  • The camera based object detection systems should satisfy the recognition performance as well as real-time constraints. Particularly, in safety-critical systems such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), the real-time constraints significantly affects the system performance. Recently, multi-core processors and system-on-chip technologies are widely used to accelerate the object detection algorithm by distributing computational loads. However, due to the advanced hardware, the complexity of system architecture is increased even though additional hardwares improve the real-time performance. The increased complexity also cause difficulty in migration of existing algorithms and development of new algorithms. In this paper, to improve real-time performance and design complexity, a task scheduling strategy is proposed for visual object tracking systems. The real-time performance of the vision algorithm is increased by applying pipelining to task scheduling in a multi-core processor. Finally, the proposed task scheduling algorithm is applied to crosswalk detection and tracking system to prove the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

  • In this paper, we design and implement a task scheduler that considers real-time and fault tolerance in embedded system with a single processor. We propose a method how it can meet the deadlines of periodic tasks using RMS and complete the execution of aperiodic tasks by calculating surplus times from a periodic task set. And we describe a method how to recover of a transient fault task by managing backup time. We propose an important level of periodic tasks that can control the response time of periodic and aperiodic tasks. Finally, we analyse and evaluate the proposed methods by simulation.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest the implications of volunteering's task design and the volunteer's placement that make the motive-benefit matching from the functional perspective of motivation. For this study, we conducted a multi-regression analysis to examine the impact of the volunteer motivation on task satisfaction and retention will. Results showed that first, volunteers' most important motive for volunteering was social motive, followed by enhancement, value. Secondly, each motive influenced the task satisfaction and retention will of volunteers differentially. The practical implications of these findings were discussed.

  • Hydraulically driven manipulators are superior to electrically driven ones in the power density and electrical insulation. But an electro-hydraulic manipulator using hydraulic actuators has many nonlinear elements, and this parameter fluctuations are greater than those of electrically driven manipulator. So this is relatively difficult to realize not only stable contact work but also accurate force control for the autonomous field task such as the maintenance task of high voltage active electric line or the automatic excavation task by hydraulic excavator. In this report, we propose robust force control algorithm, which can be applied to there real field task such as the construction field, nuclear plant and so on. Proposed force controller has the same structure as that of disturbance observe for position control. The difference between force and position disturbance observer is that the input and output of disturbance observer are forces in the case force disturbance observer and the plant varies much compared to the case of position control. In the design of force disturbance observer, generalized plant is derived and the stabilized filter is designed by H infinity control theory to ensure the robuts t stability even though the stiffness of environment changes from sponge to steel, and the contact surface also changes from flat to round shape. Experimental results show that highly robust force tracking by a 6-link electro-hydraulic manipulator could be achieved under various environment conditions.

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare task-oriented balance training on stable and unstable surfaces in terms of the fall risk, balance, and gait abilities in patients with stroke. METHODS: Twenty patients with stroke were divided randomly into a stable surface group (SSG, N=10) or unstable surface group (USG, N=10). The participants in the SSG and USG performed task-oriented balance training on stable and unstable surfaces, respectively. All participants were evaluated using the Tetrax, Berg balance scale (BBS), and 10-meter walking test (10MWT) before and after the intervention. Both groups received training 30 min per day, five times per week, for six weeks. RESULTS: The within-group changes in the fall risk, BBS, and 10MWT were significantly different in both USG and SSG (p<.05). USG showed significantly more improvement in the BBS and 10MWT compared to SSG (p<.05). CONCLUSION: Task-oriented balance training on an unstable surface is more beneficial in improving the balance and gait abilities of stroke patients.
