  • This study describes the meaning of and the formula for Kor-$h_T$, which is a modified index built on the tapered h-index by applying 'the ranking according to the number of citations of journals'. This study evaluated the de-duplication rate of index values of Kor-$h_T$ and analyzed the change in the correlation between the index values and evaluation elements using the Korea Citation Index data from 2008 to 2010. Kor-$h_T$ is compared with h-index, tapered h-index, and IF. As a result, Kor-$h_T$ appeared to be superior to other indexes on de-duplication rate. It is also shown that there is a very strong positive correlation between the evaluation elements, the number of citations and the number of articles of journals, and the index values of Kor-$h_T$.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest an appropriate index for evaluating preferences of Web contents by examining the h-index and its variants. It focuses on how successfully each index represents relative user preference towards topical subjects. Based on data obtained from a popular IT blog (engadget.com), subject values of the h-index and its variants were calculated using 53 subject categories, article counts and the 'Likes' counts aggregated in each category. These values were compared through critical analysis of the indices and Spearman rank correlation analysis. A PFNet (Pathfinder Network) of subjects weighted by $h_T$ values was drawn and cluster analysis was conducted. Based on the four criteria suggested for the evaluation of Web contents, we concluded that the $h_T$-index is a relatively appropriate tool for the Web contents preference evaluation. The $h_T$-index was applied to visually represent the relative weight (topic preference by user 'Likes' count) for each subject category of the real online contents after suggesting the relative appropriateness of the $h_T$-index. Applying scientometric indicators to Web information could provide new insights into, and potential methods for, Web contents evaluation. In addition, information on the focus of users' attention would help online informants to plan more effective content strategies. The study tries to expand the application area of the h-type indices to non-academic online environments. The research procedure enables examination of the appropriateness of the index and highlights considerations for applying the indicators to Web contents.

  • The patency of small size vascular grafts is poor, and the blood flow characteristics in the artery graft anastomosis are suspected as one of the important factors influencing intimal hyperplasia. Disturbed flow patterns caused by sixte and compliance mismatch generate unfavorable flow environment which promotes intimal thickening. Tapered vascular yuts are suggested in order to reduce sudden expansion near the anastomosis. The photochromic flow visualization method is used to measure the flout fields in the end-to-end anastomosis model under the carotid and femoral artery flow wave form. The results show that flow disturbance near the anastomosis is diminished in the tapered grafts comparing to the tubular graft. As the divergent ang1e decreases, we can reduce the low and oscillatory wall shear stress zone which is prone to intimal hyperplasia. The flow wave form effects the wall shear rate dis- tribution significantly. The steep deceleration and back flow in the femoral flow wAve form cause low mean wall shear rate and high oscillatory shear index.

  • During the study of the distribution of cellular slime molds in Halla mountain of Korea, a new yellow-pigmented Dictyostelium was isloated. This exibited several distinctive features which differed from the published species, and was designated as a new species, Dictyostelium jlavidum sp. n. Hong et Chang (Type strain HL-1). It was cultivated at $20-22^{\circ}C$ on weak nutrient agar media, 0.1 L-P in association with Escherichia coli. Sorocarps were 4-10 mm or more in length, conspicuously yellow throughout or with sori, typically solitary, unbranched or sparsely and irregularly branched. Sorophores were strongly tapered from bases to tips. Bases were typically well-formed disks in form or conically expanded. Sori were yellow to yellowish in color, and the pigmentation intensified with age. Spores were long and thin elliptical, mostly $4.8-9.6{\times}1.9-3.8\;(ave.\;7.3{\times}2.8)\;\mu\textrm{m}$, L/B index about 2.4-2.8, without polar granules.anules.
