  • During crash of a vehicle a major part of the kinetic energy of the driver is absorbed by a steering system. The deformation characteristics of the steering system has significant effects on the injury of the driver. A part of the energy is absobed by the steering wheel and another part by the collapsable steering column. It is believed that the structure of the steering wheel has an important effect on the injury of the driver. A design criterion is suggested for steering wheels for maximum protection of drivers. Taguchi method is used to obtain the effects design parameters.

  • Recently industry of motor vehicle is making a gradual progress of automotive electric components. According to this step, wire harness equipped at motor vehicle is also increased. The most important component at the wire harness is electric connector. At the manufacturing process of electric connector, exactly at the crimping process, design variables, such as clamping-height, clamping-width and clamping die shape are critical parameters to assure satisfactory harness shape in clamping process of electric connector. In this study we have performed FEM simulation for clamping process and clarified the effect of design variables on compression rate of wire.

  • Injection mold is a manufacturing process used to produce parts of complicated shape at a low cost. Many factors affect the quality of injection molded part during injection molding process. A study on the optimization of injection mold is progressed by using a simulation software like Moldflow. Filling, packing and cooling phases of injection molding processes are analyzed according to the mold design considering the shrinkage of molded part, the degree of filling rate and the wearing of a mold. Taguchi method is applied to analyze the significance of processing parameters and the dynamic characteristics according to the variation of processing parameters. From the results, the mold temperature and packing pressure influenced strongly the shrinkage of injection molded part.

  • Taguchi´s parameter design is to determine the optimal settings of design parameters of a product or a process such that the characteristics of a product exhibit small variabilities around their targer values. His analysis of the problem has focused only on a single characteristic or response. However the quality of most products is seldom defined by a characteristic, and is rather the composite of a great number of characteristics which are often interrelated and nearly always measured in a variety of units. The critical problem in dealing with multiple characteristics is how to compromise the conflict among the selected levels of the design parameters for each individual characteristic. In this paper, Methodology using SN ratio optimized by unvariate technique is proposed and a parameter design procedure to achieve the optimal compromise among several different response variables is developed. One existing case study is solved by the proposed method and the results are compared with ones by the sum of SN ratios, the expected weighted loss, the desirability functions, and EXTOPSIS model.

  • Until now, passenger airbag design is based on the referred car design and many repetitive crash tests have been done to meet the crash performance. In this paper, it was suggested a new design process of passenger airbag. First, key performance factors were determined by analyzing the injury risk effectiveness of each performance factor. And it was made a relationship between injury risk and performance factor by using the response surface model. By using this one, it can be predicted the injury risk of head and neck. Predicted injury risk of optimal design was obtained through this injury risk prediction model and it was verified by FE analysis result within 18% error of head and 9% error of neck. It was shown that a target crash performance can be met by controlling the key performance factors only.

  • The proper placement of work-coil is needed for heating the interior of an IH rice cooker uniformly. It is possible that the flavor of rice is better by heating it through the optimal placement of the work-coil of the IH rice cooker. This paper describes the procedure and the result of finding the optimal placement of the work-coil by analyzing the properties of the rising temperatures of the interior through Taguchi Method.

  • 재료의 중량과 강도는 기계부품 특히 항공기의 부품에 중요한 요소가 되므로 가볍고 강인한 열처리 강화 알루미늄이나 티타늄 등이 많이 사용된다. 그러나 알루미늄은 용융점이 낮기 때문에 기계 가공 시 발생되는 열에 의해 부품이 얇고 길수록 쉽게 변형된다. 본 연구는 end milling 가공에서 최적의 절삭 parameter를 선정하여 열 변형을 최소화한다. 밀링 가공의 절삭속도, 이송속도, 절삭 깊이를 실험 인자로 정하여 다구찌 방법으로 실험을 계획하고 얇은 시편을 절삭하여 특성을 측정한다. 결과를 분산분석 (ANOVA) 과 signal to noise 비를 (SNR) 분석하여 최소 열 변형의 절삭 parameter를 찾는다. 실험의 data를 SQL database 프로그램화하여 다양한 절삭 환경에서 최소 열 변형과 최소 표면거칠기의 parameter를 찾을 수 있도록 하였다.

  • In this Paper, We study on establish for unit of measure. Quality means abstract for customer needs. we surveyed unit of measurement of quality feature of Juran, Taguchi, 6 sigma method. We suggest unit of measurement of quality feature. Each enterprise can use defining own unit of measurement of quality feature. Effect is expected in enterprise that these proposals do quality control. There is meaning in direction that measuring mean of quality feature that propose in this treatise understands actuality to be deeply and reconcile exact point of theory.

Low- Temperature Decomposition of Epoxy Resin

  • We report a new method using a heating medium for the thermal decomposition of epoxy resin (EP) at temperatures ranging from 50 to 200$^{\circ}C$. EP decomposition also occurred below 50$^{\circ}C$ during a 6-day period to generate bisphenol A (BPA) at concentrations as high as 5 ppm. When polyethylene glycol was used as a heating medium, we determined the kinetics of the EP decomposition at low temperature. We determined the apparent activation energy of the overall decomposition to be 40.8 kJ/mol and the frequency factor to be 2.3${\times}$10$^3$ by monitoring the rate of BPA formation. Thus, EP is clearly unstable upon the application of heat.

  • In this study, in order to get the forming limit of AHSS sheet in the negative minor strain region, the shapes of die corner and drawbead are redesigned by employing the Taguchi's design of experiment method and the FEM forming simulation. With the redesigned FLD tool, the forming limit tests of automotive multi-phase(Dual Phase and Complex Phase) steel sheets which induce the normal fractures on the blank are performed.
