As the clothing materials have been more functional and advanced, the cotton fabrics for dress shirts or blouses have been more qualified and the sewability for high degree of completion has been required. This study aims to identify the seam strength depending on the change of stitch density of fine cotton fabrics by fabric and thread and so the general seam performance of fine cotton fabrics by analyzing the seam efficiency and breaking mode of seams. For an experiment, 3 kinds of fine cotton fabrics and 2 kinds of threads were selected and the sample was made by changing the stitch density by four steps. Then, the seam strength was measured. Next, the seam efficiency and breaking mode of seams were analyzed on the basis of the results of seam strength measurement. The results are as follows: All fabrics showed the similar tendency in seam strength. The seam strength is related to the tensile strength and thread strength, it increased only to a certain stitch density. When the stitch density exceeded a certain level, fabrics were destroyed or threads were cut. Then, the seam strength didn't increase. Furthermore, the more the seam strength increased, the more the seam efficiency increased. For increasing the maximum stitch density, it was required to use the fabrics and threads which had similar properties, in other words, the high thread strength for the high tensile strength and the low thread strength for the high tensile strength.
The purpose of this study is to develop the pattern of safety clothes used at flat or mountainous areas and to identify the pattern of safety clothes by conducting experimental evaluation of virtual wear. Three subjects were selected, based on fire fighters' physical constitution. A prototype design for safety clothing was determined after in-depth interviewing of professionals and surveying of Forest service staff and related agency. Wearing test should be carried out in the order of pattern making, virtual and real wearing evaluation. For data analysis, technical statistical values should be obtained by using body measurements of subject, frequency analysis and T-test. The jacket is designed to have a front extension and the entire length of clothing enough for wearer to put on it over ordinary shirts or sweater. The collar of jacket is of round type. Cyber reality enables to identify the movement and activity of virtual fitting model and to find out errors or problems in safety clothing prior to on-the-spot wear test, thus raising the precision level of pattern. There was significant difference between real and virtual fit preference. The results show that the virtual try-on system need the development of a specific style.
This paper aims to identify the similarities and differences of color preference for mountain climbing wear according to gender, season and item. Total of 749 photos of mountain climbers were taken in 2009 during weekends in May and October at two mountains in Seoul. In order to analyze color by hue and tone, all the data were digitalized using Photoshop and converted to HV/C by using the Munsell Conversion software. For the purpose of data analysis, 13 colors of hue, including 10 base colors of the Munsel color system plus white, gray and black, and 12 tones of PCCS were grouped into 5 groups according to close distance. Jumper, t-shirts, vest and pants were selected as the 4 item categories. Results showed that there were clear differences in color preference based on gender. Women, with a preference for red, reddish purple, black, purple and blue, displayed wider range of choices in color as compared to men, who preferred black and blue color throughout all seasons. Yellow, green, and greenish blue were less preferred by both men and women. For pants, black represented over 90% as the main color for both genders. Overall, men preferred dark tones and women preferred vivid and bright tones. Moreover, there were less distinct differences in color preference according to season and item.

This study investigated physiological and subjective responses to different types of firefighter station uniforms made with various designs and materials. Six healthy males participated in this study that consisted of 20 min of rest, 30 min of treadmill exercise, and 30 min of recovery in a hot and humid environment (34℃ and 65%RH). The experimental clothing conditions were as follows. 1) a fitted T-shirt and trouser made of 100% polyester (FC-Uniform), and 2) flame retardant T-shirts made of acrylic and cotton as well as trousers with aramid and polyester, designed for overfitting (Control). There were no significant differences in the body temperature, and sweat rate between the two conditions; however, the heart rate with the FC-Uniform was significantly lower than Control (p=.025). The clothing microclimate temperature at the chest of the FC-Uniform was significantly lower than the Control (p=.037), and a difference of 1℃ was maintained until the recovery was complete. There were no significant differences in the subjective responses; however, participants experienced a humidity sensation faster with FC-Uniform in the recovery phase. The results indicate that changes in the design and material of firefighter station uniforms may have a positive influence on reducing the thermal stress of firefighters.
With its technical development, digital printing is being universally introduced to the mass production of clothing factories. At the same time, many fashion platforms have been made for customers' participation using digital printing, and a tool is provided in platforms for customers to make designs. However, there is no sufficient solution in the production stage for automatically converting a customer's design into a file before printing other than designating a square area for the pattern designed by the customer. That is, if 30 different designs come in from customers for one shirt, designers have to do the work of reproducing the design on the clothing pattern in the same location and in the same angle, and this work requires a great deal of manpower. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a technology which can let the customer make the design and, at the same time, reflect it in the clothing pattern. This is defined in relation to the existing clothing pattern with digital printing. This study yields a clothing pattern for digital printing which reflects a customer's design in real time by matching the diagram area where a customer designs on a given clothing model and the area where a standard pattern reflects the customer's actual design information. Designers can substitute the complex mapping operation of programmers with a simple area-matching operation. As there is no limit to clothing designs, the variousfashion design creations of designers and the diverse customizing demands of customers can be satisfied at low cost with high efficiency. This is not restricted to T-shirts or eco-bags but can be applied to all woven wear, including men's, women's, and children's clothing, except knitwear.
The purpose of this study is to design fashion-cultural products by reviewing the symbolism in Changseung and Sotdae, which are folk belief sculptures. This study was performed by literature reviews of Changseung and Sotdae in order to look into the characteristics of folk belief and traditional culture, and the designs were developed from the symbolism extracted from Changseung and Sotdae with photoshop CS5 and illustrator CS5. The Symbolism of Changseung and Sotdae were as follows: First, Changseung and Sotdae express the 'symbiotic world view' that human beings need to devote one's life to nature. Second, original materials were saved in order to achieve the 'pursuit of essence'. Third, 'simple esthetic expression' was symbolized through the undivided condition between art, religion and life. And fourth, 'empathic humor' was seen through the basis of emotional sense of affinity. The first concept of design development was 'Pursuit of Essence', which was inspired by the characteristics of 'symbiotic world view' and 'pursuit of essence'. Changseungs were expressed as simple and abstract, and Sotdaes as simplified and modern by symmetrical and rotating copy. The second concept, 'Touch of Humor' was inspired by 'simple esthetic expression' and 'emphatic humor'. The face of Changseungs was exaggerated in a humorous ways and Sotdae was developed as sub-motives. The items for the fashion-cultural design were T-shirts, bags, and scarves. Total of 24 items were developed with 4 differently styled designs for each concept. This study was based on basic culture and attempted to diversify the traditional culture items. It hopes to raise the value of traditional culture, and furthermore help build up national competitiveness.
This study examined images typical to this city and explored ways to develop cultural products using these images. Researchers reviewed literature about fashion cultural products and related previous research, and then conducted a closed-ended survey to analyze universal fashion preferences. For the examination material, such a way was used as information data base and network review inside and outside the country, dissertation screen, and published media including separate volumes. The following are considering points in the developing process. First, the study identified design, color, price, practicality and quality as factors that should be taken into consideration when using the image of Gangneung. In particular, it determined that the image needs to reflect a modern sensibility while maximizing its representation of local culture. Second, Gangneung's symbolic image should incorporate the sea, Gyeongpo, and coffee. In other words, the sea, Gyeongpo, and coffee should receive top symbolic priority. Third, from a development perspective, the most appropriate items for displaying the image include t-shirts, keychains, umbrellas, or other accessories, since these items are easily available in terms of price. In sum, this study highlighted the necessity of reconsidering Gangneung's currents ymbolic image, suggesting that a new image should be developed. Developing a typical fashion cultural product image will enrich Gangneung's cultural industry and the distribution of newly designed products will improve the localeconomy.
This study aims to analyze the changes in the mechanical properties of interlock fabrics knitted with three types of fibers (i.e., cotton, wool, and polyester) by bonding fusible interlinings with varying deniers (i.e., 10D, 20D, and 30D) for a 3D virtual try-on system. We experimented with four properties and thicknesses of twelve specimens of interlining bonded knitted fabrics including face fabrics and interlinings. The results showed that the tensile property changed values (i.e., LT increased, and WT and RT decreased) according to the denier of interlinings; however, the change was slight. On the other hand, the bending property increased significantly as the denier of the interlining increased on both the wale and the course. Among shearing properties, the value of G increased as the denier of the interlining increased on both the wale and the weft; however, 2HG decreased. Additionally, changes in the compression property varied according to the fibers and the denier of the interlinings. The thickness of the knitted fabrics increased or decreased slightly by bonding the interlining. based on these results, we conclude that the 3D virtual system users need to reflect these numerical changes of interlock fabrics by bonding interlinings when they perform fitting tasks on the screen to accurately express the to accurately express the manufacturing conditions of the real garment.
Mugunghwa, one of the most prominent national symbols of Korea, is a significant design source for producing cultural products. However, there has been a limitation to reflecting the identity of Korea using the design due to a lack of study and analysis of characteristics of Mugunghwa in history. Therefore, the researchers analyzed the design characteristics of Mugunghwa in cultural artifacts such as costumes, money, and stamps. Based on this, the study puts forward the following suggestions. First, the patterns of Mugunghwa should be categorized as a solo figure, a flower with pastels and the stem and a group of flowers as a unit. Second, there are two ways of expressing the flower: using realism and abstraction. Mugunghwa comprises of five pastels with elongated depth in the middle. The pastels spread out like the spokes of a wheel from the center; leaving a feeling of unevenness and the rims of the pastels are shaped in waves. The study puts forward the following suggestion: First, find the prototypes for different design characteristics. Second, develop motifs and patterns that reflect the given prototypes. Finally, apply the design to most popular cultural items such as T-shirts, neckties and bags. The ultimate purpose of the study lies with the hope that it will contribute to promoting the Korean beauty throughout the world.
The purpose of this study was to confirm and practical use the street fashion design analysis system(Web-SFAS) which was designed in preceding research. Web-SFAS was developed to analyze data fast, accurately, conveniently, and to provide them to related fields by using Information Technology (IT) in fashion design industry. By inputting, sorting and analyzing actual image data into this system, it purposes to check if it needs to be corrected and to verify its operation and application. For this study, 191 street fashion image and paper questionaries were collected on Oct. 16th from 4pm to 7pm in Gyeong-Nam area(4 markets), 2004. This study was processed basically cross research(real time research). The collected data and paper questionaries were analysed by 4 experts who had over Master Degrees, and the results were input to the Web-SFAS system. This system analyzed the results as follow ; First, Top is usually wear T-shirts, cardigan item of soft material, Bottom is usually wear Skirt, jean item of hard material. Second, As for shoes, pumps were the most popular, and as for accessories, diverse items such as shoulder bag, jewelry, and totebag were preferred. Third, fashion image, most people wear a sportive casual style with semi-casual in a close second. Therefore, We also expect that this data can be used a prediction for the next seasons design trends and needs, especially if we make an online database through this development system, then it will be easier to access faster and more accurate fashion information.
