We have performed dispersion polymerization of acrylamide in tert-butyl alcohol/water mixture-using hydroxypropyl cellulose and ammonium persulfate as the stabilizer and the initiator, respectively - to study the effects that the concentration of monomer, initiator, and stabilizer, the tert-butyl alcohol/water ratios as polymerization media, and the reaction temperature have on, among other things, the polymerization kinetics, particle sizes, and molecular weights. The polymerization rate increased upon increasing the concentration of the monomer, initiator, and stabilizer, the water content in the tert-butyl alcohol/water media, and the polymerization temperature. The average particle size of the lattices increased upon increasing the concentration of initiator, the polymerization temperature, and the water content in the tert-butyl alcohol/water media, but it decreased upon increasing the concentration of monomer and stabilizer. The viscosity-average molecular weight increased upon increasing the concentration of monomer and stabilizer and the water content in the tert-butyl alcohol/water media, but it decreased upon increasing both the concentration of initiator and the polymerization temperature.
Dispersion polymerization of acrylamide in the media of t-butyl alcoho1/$H_2O$ mixtures at 30~5$0^{\circ}C$ in the presence of hydroxypropyl cellulose and ammonium persulfate as steric stabilizer and initiator, respectively, was carried out. It was studied the effects of concentrations of initiator and steric stabilizer, amount of monomer, polymerization temperature, t-butyl alcohol/$H_2O$ ratio, concentration of crosslinker, purification of monomer and nitrogen purge on the particle size of the resulting acrylamide latices and molecular weight of the latex-poly(acrylamide). In this study, poly(acrylamide) latices of 0.1~0.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ with 470000~2080000 in (equation omitted) were prepared and the resulting PAM latices were all dissolved in water in stantly.

Alkali metal fluoride sources (MFs) such as potassium fluoride (KF) have been widely used as a fluoride source in the nucleophilic displacement reaction. However, they have low solubility and nucleophilicity in most of the organic solvents. Bulky fluoride sources such as tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF) were substituted for MFs to improve these properties. However, hygroscopic property of TBAF makes it less convenient for handling as well as its strong basic property can make the side-reaction occur. Recently, novel fluoride sources have been developed to solve these problems. In this paper, we would like to introduce coordinated fluoride sources as a new fluoride sources such as tetrabutylammonium tetra(t-butyl alcohol)-coordinated fluoride, crown ether metal complex fluoride, and various bulky alcohols coordinated fluoride complexes. In particular, bulky alcohol coordinated fluoride source could generated by the controlled hydrogen-bonded of fluoride with alcohols and these fluoride sources have better stability and reactivity with showing low hygroscopic property. The study of these fluoride sources will help to understand the characteristic of [$^{18}F$]fluoride for increasing the radiochemical yield in the [$^{18}F$]radiofluorination.
This experiment was carried out to isolate osmophilic yeasts for higher concentration of NaCl than 20 per cent may affect greatly the fermentation of soy sauce. 6 strains of yeasts were selected from the soy sauce mashes at the fermentating periods and identified observing their morphological characteristics. Their salt-resistance and effects upon the flavor of soy sauce were examined. The results obtained were as follows: (1) The strain $T_3,T_5,$ and $T_{11},\;T_8,\;T_9,\;and\; T_{10},$ selected were identified Saccharomyces cerevisiae group II, Debaryomyces nicotianae, Saccharomyces chevalieri, Saccharomyces rouxii and Saccharomyces rosei, respectively. (2) They were more salt-resistant on the liquid media than on the solid media in the case of cultures on the media containing more than 26 per cent of NaCl. (3) They were grown on the media containing 5-23 per cent of NaCl better than containing none of NaCl. (4) The strain $T_3,\;T_8,\;T_9,\;and\; T_{10}$ were grown on the media containing up to 28 per cent of NaCl, and $T_5\;and\;T_{11}$ up to 32 per cent of NaCl is the case of liquid cultures. (5) Among them, the strain $T_9$ showed the best alcohol fermentation ability and the best fermentative flavor, and $T_5\;and\;T_{11}$ formed moldy smell and pellicle.

Solvolyses rate constant of 1- and 2- naphthoyl chlorides (1 and 2) are reported for aqueous binary mixtures with methanol, ethanol, fluorinated alcohol, acetonitrile and dioxane. Kinetic solvent isotope effects (KISE) in methanol and product selectivities (S) of 2-naphthoyl chloride (2) in alcohol-water are also reported. Dispersions in Grunwald-Winstein correlations $(r{\leq}0.901)$ are discussed by multiple regression analysis incorporating ionizing power $(Y_{Cl})$ scale and rate-rate profiles. Major causes for these phenomena are investigated as an aromatic ring solvation effects, in conjunction with weakly nucleophilic solvation effects ($S_N2$ character), for solvolyses of 1 and for solvolyses of 2, as dual reaction channels, described as $S_N1$-$S_N2$ and $S_AN$-$S_N2$ processes. Distinct border lines between the two pathways are derived from solvolyses rates of 2 in 18 solvent using the results of $log(k/k_o)=mY_{Cl}+lN_T+hI$ plot with values of 1.13 for m, 0.37 for l and 0.15 for h value in 5 aqueous fluorinated alcohol mixtures. Using rate-product correlation, the validity of a third order model based on a general base catalyzed by solvent and contribution from these rate constants, $k_{aa},\;k_{aw}$ and $k_{aw}$, are investigated for $S_AN$-$S_N2$ solvolyses of 2 favored in more rich alcohol media and gradual addition of water to alcohol solvent shows a great shift away from stoichiometric solvation to predominantly medium effects. Rate-rate correlation between solvolyses of 2 and trimethyl acetylchloride (5) with alkyl group in the 29 aqueous solvent mixtures shows appreciable linearity (slope = 0.84, r = 0.987), caused by the same pathway ($S_N1$-$S_N2$ process), even if this correlation coincides with appreciable dispersion (different solvation effect).

Solvolyses of 3,4-dimethoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride (DSC) in water, D2O, CH3OD, and in aqueous binary mixtures of acetone, acetonitrile, 1,4-dioxane, ethanol, methanol, and 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE) have been investigated at 25.0 oC. Kinetic solvent isotope effects (KSIE) in water and in methanol and product selectivities in alcohol-water mixtures are also reported. The Grunwald-Winstein plot of first-order rate constants for the solvolyic reaction of DSC with YCl shows marked dispersions into separated lines for various aqueous mixtures. With use of the extended Grunwald-Winstein equation, the l and m values obtained are 1.12 and 0.58 respectively for the solvolyses of DSC. The relatively large magnitude of l is consistent with substantial nucleophilic solvent assistance. From Grunwald-Winstein plots the rate data are dissected approximately into contributions from two competing reaction channels. This interpretation is supported for alcohol-water mixtures by the trends of product selectivities, which show a maximum for ethanol-water mixtures. From the KSIE of 1.45 in methanol, it is proposed that the reaction channel favored in methanolwater mixtures and in all less polar media is general-base catalysed and/or is possibly (but less likely) an addition-elimination pathway. Also, the KISE value of 1.35 for DSC in water is expected for SN2-SN1 processes, with minimal general base catalysis, and this mechanism is proposed for solvolyses in the most polar media.
Addition of carbon and nitrogen source to an alcohol distillery wastewater was tried to increase the cell concentration of a b baker's yeast cultivated in that wastewater. Carbon was found to be primary limiting nutrient and nitrogen secondary limiting o one. Glucose addition increased the cell concentration 1.3 times higher than no addition, and both glucose and $(NH_4)_2S0_4$ a addition did 5.8 times. A fed-batch cultivation by the automatic addition of glucose and ammonium was executed. Added g glu$\infty$se was automatically controlled to low concentration by a method using DO as control parameter. Ammonium was a automatically added as NH40H used as pH $\infty$ntrol agent after initiating glucose addition. By this simple cultivation method t the cell concentration $\infty$내d be efficiently increased from 2.6g/L to 12.0g/L, and maximum specific growth rate and biomass y yield to glu$\infty$se were $0.18hr^{-1}$ and about 0.54g/g respectively. By increasing cell concentration, COD of the wastewater m media could be additionally reduced by about 22%.
Until now, it was diIliculi to overproduce lignin peroxidase(LiP) fiom Pl~anemchaete ch~ysosporium since the lack of optimized growth conditions. In this paper, we optimized the LIP production conditions and monitored LIP isozyines of fl chqsospoi.ium PSBL-1. The optimized condition includes sponge matrix support, no addition of $MnSO_4$, excess addition of niixogen source(48 inM diarmnonium), and addition of stabilizer(2 mM verakyl alcohol). Finally we obtained Lip activity of 1,800 unitsll. HI isozyne was overproduced when inyceliuin was cultivated in media containing $Mn^{2+}$ (2.73 inM) and excess nitrogen(48 11d4 diannnonium). Three azo dyes(acid yellow 9, congo ued, orange IT; each concenimtion of50 $\mu$M) we1-e rapidly decolorized within 2 inins by 0.4 un~t or Lip.
Purpose. The present study was intended to compare difference in research variables between delinquent adolescents and student adolescents, and to analyze discriminative factors of delinquent behaviors among Korean adolescents. Methods. The research design of this study was a questionnaire survey. Questionnaires were administered to 2,167 adolescents (1,196 students and 971 delinquents), sampled from 8 middle and high school and 6 juvenile corrective institutions, using the proportional stratified random sampling method. Statistical methods employed were Chi-square, t-test, and logistic regression analysis. Results. The discriminative factors of delinquent behaviors were smoking, alcohol use, other drug use, being sexually abused, viewing time of media violence and pornography. Among these discriminative factors, the factor most strongly associated with delinquency was smoking (odds ratio: 32.32). That is, smoking adolescent has a 32-fold higher possibility of becoming a delinquent adolescent than a non-smoking adolescent. Conclusions. Our findings, that smoking was the strongest discriminative factor of delinquent behavior, suggest that educational strategies to prevent adolescent smoking may reduce the rate of juvenile delinquency. Antismoking educational efforts are therefore urgently needed in South Korea.
Background: Knowledge regarding risk factors and primary signs of oral cancer in the general population can help them to avoid risky behaviour and seek timely advice from a physician. The aim of this study was to survey adult knowledge about risk factors and signs of oral cancer in Shiraz Dental University. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study using an investigator-made questionnaire, 783 adults who were referred to Shiraz Dental University participated. Questionnaire data were analyzed by ANOVA and T-test. Results: The results showed that 32.3% of participants were aware of oral cancer and gained their knowledge from the media. The risk factors mentioned by these participants was as follows: sunlight 30.8%, hot and peppery food 40.7%, alcoholic drinks 47.4% and smoking 73.6% (there was significant relationship for drinking alcohol and gender, education and times of using dental service, p<0.05). They also mentioned the primary signs of oral cancer as follows: red patch without pain 27.8%, white patch without pain 13.5% and prolong scarring without pain 56.7% (there was significant relationship between these three signs and education and times of using dental service, p<0.05). The mean knowledge about the risk factors and signs of oral cancer were 1.94 from 5 with 1.14 standard deviation and 0.96 from 3 with 0.93 standard deviation. Conclusions: The observed low level of knowledge of people regarding both risk factors and signs of oral cancer emphasizes the need for more efforts to be made about the above mentioned issues by the media.
