  • The paradigm of urban generation does not lie in physical development/maintenance such as urban redevelopment any more. The paradigm is shifting to balanced activation of administration / management functions including central commerce/business functions, broad culture/tourism functions, international functions and adequate level of residence functions. The urban regeneration project aims to restore functions of cities by physical/environmental, living/cultural and industrial/economical regeneration and is managed differently from existing projects in that it includes multiple sub-projects in it. The overall projects management should be by managing the value sought by the urban regeneration project and multiple other sub-projects. The objective of this study is to present various methods of value management in order to avoid conflicts between various objectives within the said project. It aims to provide the value management methods for decision making by understanding correlatedness between values of various projects and prioritizing them.

  • The number of freshmen at universities is decreasing due to the recent decline in the school-age population, and the survival of many universities is threatened. To overcome this situation, universities are seeking ways to use big data within the school to improve the quality of education. A study on the prediction of dropout students is a representative case of using big data in universities. The dropout prediction can prepare a systematic management plan by identifying students who will drop out of school due to reasons such as dropout or expulsion. In the case of actual on-campus data, a large number of missing values are included because it is collected and managed by various departments. For this reason, it is necessary to construct a model by effectively reflecting the missing values. In this study, we propose a university student dropout prediction model based on eXtreme Gradient Boost that can be applied to data with many missing values and shows high performance. In order to examine the practical applicability of the proposed model, an experiment was performed using data from C University in Chungbuk. As a result of the experiment, the prediction performance of the proposed model was found to be excellent. The management strategy of dropout students can be established through the prediction results of the model proposed in this paper.

  • It has been an issue in the field of hospital management to develope a systematic and comprehensive analysis frame for financial position. This study developed a return on equity(ROE) model that includes the components of financial profitability, activity, stability and growth with reference to that developed in the USA The application of the model was attempted to assess its feasibility using data collected from a general hospital that has long been in the red. The hospital's financial ratio were compared to those of another private hospital in the black and also to the average ratios values of the similar bed-sized hospitals. Factors that cause the financial deficit and the strategies that can help to reorient the management's financial decision-making together with requisite conditions for effective use of the model, were identified. This study concludes that the ROE model can be usefull when effective financial strategies of the private hospitals are to be formulated.

  • The problems of determining appropriate QOS(Quality of service) requirements of B-ISDN services and finding the corresponding NP(Network Performance) values satisfying the given QOS requirements are very important problems which are directly related to the successful operation of the ATM network, but have not been studied with enough attention yet. The QOS(NP) parameter definition, QOS measurements, and QOS managements are three major problems that should be solved. In this paper, we first introduce the basic concepts of QOS and NP and their relationships. Then we discuss more comprehensive concepts of QOS based on the layered structure of ATM services and the reference time, which can provide a systematic approach for QOS and NP mapping problems. We also provide examples of determining basic QOS(NP) parameters in the ATM layer and a specific example of QOS mapping based on the file transfer in ATM. The results of this paper can be used to establish the comprehensive QOS management model.

  • To carry out systematic groundwater assessment, exploration and management and to use these for protection of optimal groundwater yield, a data analysis and management system is required. Thus, the object of this research was to develop and apply software that integrates GIS and groundwater modeling: GISGAM (GIS for groundwater analysis and management system). The GIS program ArcView and the groundwater-modeling program MODFLOW were used for the GISGAM. The program components consist of a pre-processor, a processor, and a post-processor for groundwater modeling. In addition, GIS functions such as input, manipulation, analysis and output of data were embedded into the program. In applying the program to pilot area, topography, geology, soil, land use and well databases, and a groundwater flow model were constructed for the study area. This case study revealed the advantage and convenience of groundwater modeling using GIS capabilities. By integrating GIS and the groundwater model, the impact of changing values of hydrogeological constants on model results could be more easily evaluated.

  • An extensive literature review has been made in this paper to build the evaluation hierarchy structure for the certification of electronic commerce services. In building the evaluation hierarchy structure, major candidate evaluation factors are selected by bench marking the various certification practices, including the Malcolm Baldrige award, ISO9000, and BSC(balanced scorecard) techniques. This paper deployed principal component analysis and factor analysis techniques to develop a statistically solid and systematic evaluation model. The final evaluation model, as presented in this paper as a model for the certification of electronic commerce services, produces a numeric score on the 100% scale, which can be served as a metric for the certification decision. The AHP technique was used in converting the various qualitative and quantitative evaluation values into a single measure for the certification decision.

  • Korean groundwater quality standards were established in 1994, and revised in 2003 and 2010. The substances for which standards have been developed are classified into two groups, general pollutants, 4, and specific pollutants, 15. The standards have been applied to household water use, agriculture, aquaculture, and industrial use. However, there is no systematic methodology for either selecting candidate substances or establishing groundwater standards. We investigated various derivation methodologies for groundwater standards used by the European Commission and 27 member states and compared their methods for determining threshold values. The European Commission presented to their member states groundwater standards for two substances and a list of required substances for derivation of threshold values along with the member states. Interestingly, they first considered national background levels and then considered other criteria for water protection, such as drinking water standards, environmental quality standards, and irrigation standards. We suggest that Korean background levels in groundwater should be included in the methodology for establishing groundwater quality standards. These results may be useful in developing a systematic methodology for establishing Korean groundwater quality standards.

  • Company strategy that considers market trend becomes a more important key to success in the new product development. Well-being as a present social trend has created a huge new product market. but with increasing number of camouflaged well-being products that are not fulfilled consumer needs. The purpose of this study is to understand the concept of well-being products from a consumer point of view an to find five consumer values based on the consumer value model of Sheth, Newman, and Gross(1991) through conducting content analysis from semi-structured individual In-depth Interviews. This study has a significance in identifying the detailed consumer value attributes and influence factors by collecting practical and reach qualitative data in the lack of systematic research of domestic well-being market and its products from a consumer point of view. The result of this study will be a foundation of future quantitative researches and provide a guideline to companys' well-being marketing strategy.

  • Present work aims to establish an integrated management system of environmental data base for nine typical wind holes or air holes in Korea. It basically deals with definition, geographical distribution, morphological pattern, physical characteristics and anthropogenic environments of wind hole to propose systematic preservation strategy of their periglacial landscape and flora, which are known to be sensitive to global warming. Wind hole, in which cool air blows out during the summer, but mild air comes out during the winter from a cave or hole, is frequently found on northwest- and north-facing slopes on the terminal point of steep talus, block field, and block stream, and can be categorized into three types, i.e., talus, cave and sink types. Environmental characteristics of nine wind holes are analyzed on the basis of their geology, landform, climate, soil, hydrology, vegetation, road, footpath, land-use, and management system, and relevant DB are prepared. Wind hole areas with unique landscape and ecological values need to be designated as a nature reserve, and zoning of core, buffer, and transitional zones are required for the multi-dimensional preservation of periglacial landscape and ecosystem. Phytogeographical values of glacial relict plants, including mountain cranberry(Vaccinium vitis-idaea) at its global southernmost limit at Bangnaeri wind hole, Hongchon County, Gangwon Province of Korea are discussed in detail as a floristic refugia in connection with climate change during the Pleistocene Epoch and potential in-situ and ex-situ preservation sites in the future.
