High data rates in long-term evolution (LTE) networks can affect the mobility of networks and their performance. The speed and motion of user equipment (UE) can compromise seamless connectivity. However, a proper handover (HO) decision can maintain quality of service (QoS) and increase system throughput. While this may lead to an increase in complexity and operational costs, self-optimization can enhance network performance by improving resource utilization and user experience and by reducing operational and capital expenditure. In this study, we propose the self-optimization of HO parameters based on fuzzy logic control (FLC) and multiple preparation (MP), which we name FuzAMP. Fuzzy logic control can be used to control self-optimized HO parameters, such as the HO margin and time-to-trigger (TTT) based on multiple criteria, viz HO ping pong (HOPP), HO failure (HOF) and UE speeds. A MP approach is adopted to overcome the hard HO (HHO) drawbacks, such as the large delay and unreliable procedures caused by the break-before-make process. The results of this study show that the proposed method significantly reduces HOF, HOPP, and packet loss ratio (PLR) at various UE speeds compared to the HHO and the enhanced weighted performance HO parameter optimization (EWPHPO) algorithms.
The advent of large-scale web services has resulted in gradual increase in the amount of data used in those services. These big data are managed efficiently by DBMS such as MySQL and MariaDB, which use InnoDB engine as their storage engine, since InnoDB guarantees ACID and is suitable for handling large-scale data. To improve I/O performance, InnoDB caches data and index of its database through a buffer pool. It also supports multiple buffer pools to mitigate lock contentions. However, the multiple buffer pool scheme leads to the additional data consistency overhead. In this paper, we analyze the overhead of the multiple buffer pool scheme. In our experimental results, although multiple buffer pool scheme mitigates the lock contention by up to 46.3%, throughput of DMBS is significantly degraded by up to 50.6% due to increased disk I/O and fsync calls.

A method for the simple, rapid, specific, and accurate detection of Bacillus anthracis spores was developed by employing specific capture peptides conjugated with fluorescent quantum dots (QDs). It was possible to distinguish B. anthracis spores from the spores of B. thuringiensis and B. cereus using these peptide-QD conjugates by flow cytometric and confocal laser scanning microscopic analyses. For more convenient high-throughput detection of B. anthracis spores, spectrofluorometric analysis of spore-peptide-QD conjugates was performed. B. anthracis spores could be detected in less than 1 h using this method. In order to avoid any minor yet false-positive signal caused by the presence of B. thuringiensis spores, the B-Negative peptide, which can only bind to B. thuringiensis, conjugated with another type of QD that fluoresces at different wavelength was also developed. In the presence of mixed B. anthracis and B. thuringiensis spores, the BABA peptide conjugated with QD525 and the B-Negative peptide conjugated with QD585 were able to bind to the former and the latter, specifically and respectively, thus allowing the clear detection of B. anthracis spores against B. thuringiensis spores by using two QD-labeling systems. This capture peptide-conjugated QD system should be useful for the detection of B. anthracis spores.
During the last few decades, it has become evident that the compatibility of the yeast biochemical environment with the ability to process and translate the RNA transcript, along with its capacity to modify a translated protein, are relevant requirements for selecting this host cell for protein expression in several pharmaceutical and clinical applications. In particular, Pichia pastoris is used as an industrial host for recombinant protein and metabolite production, showing a powerful capacity to meet required biomolecular target production levels in high-throughput assays for functional genomics and drug screening. In addition, there is a great advantage to using P. pastoris for protein secretion, even at high molecular weights, since the recovery and purification steps are simplified owing to relatively low levels of endogenous proteins in the extracellular medium. Clearly, no single microexpression system can provide all of the desired properties for human protein production. Moreover, chemical and physical bioprocess parameters, including culture medium formulation, temperature, pH, agitation, aeration rates, induction, and feeding strategies, can highly influence product yield and quality. In order to benefit from the currently available wide range of biosynthesis strategies using P. pastoris, this mini review focuses on the developments and technological fermentation achievements, providing both a comparative and an overall integration analysis. The main aim is to highlight the relevance and versatility of the P. pastoris biosystem to the design of more cost-effective microfactories to meet the increasing demands for recombinant membrane proteins and clinical antibodies for several therapeutic applications.
IEEE 802.11 WLANs provide multiple transmission rates to improve the system throughput by adapting the transmission rate to the current wireless channel conditions. Many rate adaptation schemes have been proposed because IEEE 802.11 standard does not contain any specifications for the rate adaptation scheme. In this paper, in order to overcome limitations of the previous research, we propose a new rate adaptation scheme called SARA(Sender-oriented Automatic Rate Adaptation). The SARA scheme, a proposed rate adaptation scheme, appropriately adjusts the data transmission rate based on the estimated wireless channel conditions, specifically the measured RSSI at the sender-side. Moreover it continuously updates the thresholds for selecting the transmission rate and selectively enforces the RTS/CTS exchanges to adapt the changes in the wireless channel conditions. Through the performance evaluations, we prove that the SARA scheme overcomes the limitations of the previous research and improves the wireless link utilization.
In this paper, we propose to modify the IEEE 802.16 MAC protocol in order to allow the coexistence of IEEE 802.11 and IEEE 802.16 wireless networks in shared bands. Our suggested protocol enables 802.16 WMAN to control WLAN devices for the coexistence. That is, in the downlink subframes(BS to SS), SS(Subscriber Station) prohibits WLAN to transmit by using CTS(Clear to Send) in order to protect it's burst. In the uplink subframes(SS to BS), on the other hand, BS(Base Station) sends CTS to block WLAN's communications. Our proposals enables the coexistence between WLAN and WMAN, and simulation results show that our protocols enhance the throughput of the entire system.
Incorrect deployment of RFID readers occurs reader-to-reader interferences in many applications using RFID technologies. Reader-to-reader interference occurs when a reader transmits a signal that interferes with the operation of another reader, thus preventing the second reader from communicating with tags in its interrogation zone. Interference detected by one reader and caused by another reader is referred to as a reader collision. In RFID systems, the reader collision problem is considered to be the bottleneck for the system throughput and reading efficiency. In this paper, we propose a novel RFID reader anti-collision algorithm based on evolutionary algorithm(EA). First, we analyze characteristics of RFID antennas and build database. Also, we propose EA encoding algorithm, fitness algorithm and genetic operators to deploy antennas efficiently. To show superiority of our proposed algorithm, we simulated our proposed algorithm. In the result, our proposed algorithm obtains 95.45% coverage rate and 10.29% interference rate after about 100 generations.
Recently, the demand for fast storage devices is rapidly increasing in cloud platforms, social network services, etc. Despite the development of fast storage devices, the traditional Linux I/O stack is not able to exploit the full extent of the performance improvement since it has been optimized for disk-based storage devices. In this paper, we propose an optimized I/O stack which can fully utilize the I/O bandwidth and latency of fast storage devices. To this end, we design a new I/O interface to replace the current block I/O interface and optimize our I/O interface. Our optimized I/O interface bypasses operations/layers in block I/O subsystems of the current Linux I/O stack to fully exploit fast storage devices. We also optimize the Linux file systems such as ext2 and ext4 to run on our I/O interface. We evaluate our I/O stack with multiple benchmarks and the experimental results show that our I/O stack achieves 1.7 times better throughput compared to traditional Linux I/O stack.
A service size of the IoT environment is determined by the number of sensors. The number of sensors increase means increases the amount of data generated by the IoT environment. There are studies to reliably operate a network for research and operational dynamic buffer for data when network congestion control congestion in the network environment. There are also studies of the stream data that has been processed in the connectionless network environment. In this study, we propose a sensor gateway for processing big data of the IoT environment. For this, review the RESTful for designing a sensor middleware, and apply the double-buffer algorithm to process the stream data efficiently. Finally, it generates a big data traffic using the MJpeg stream that is based on the HTTP protocol over TCP to evaluate the proposed system, with open source media player VLC using the image received and compare the throughput performance.
In this paper. we propose an enhanced concurrency control algorithm that minimizes the query delay efficiently. The factors that delay search operations and deteriorate the concurrency of index structures are node splits and MBR updates in multi dimensional index structures. In our algorithm, to reduce the query delay by split operations, we optimize exclusive latching time on a split node. It holds exclusive latches not during whole split time but only during physical node split time that occupies small part of whole split time. Also to avoid the query delay by MBR updates we introduce partial lock coupling(PLC) technique. The PLC technique increases concurrency by using lock coupling only in case of MBR shrinking operations that are less frequent than MBR expansion operations. For performance evaluation, we implement the proposed algorithm and one of the existing link technique-based algorithms on MIDAS-III that is a storage system of a BADA-III DBMS. We show through various experiments that our proposed algorithm outperforms the existing algorithm In terms of throughput and response time.
