Design and Verification of Mission Equipment Package System for Korean Utility Helicopter (한국형 기동헬기 임무탑재장비체계 설계 및 입증)

  • Mission Equipment Package(MEP) system is a collection of avionic components that are integrated to perform the mission of the Korean Utility Helicopter(KUH). MEP system development is classified mission-critical embedded system but KUH MEP system developed including flight-critical data implementation. It is important to establish the good development and verification process for the successful system development. This paper describe the development and verification process in each phase for the KUH MEP system. MEP system design is verified through the qualification test, system failure test and compatibility test in System Integration Laboratory(SIL).

  • The live fire test has been playing a critical role in evaluating the goals-to-meet of the weapon systems which utilize the power of explosives. As such, the successful development of the test systems therein is quite important. The test systems development covers that of ranges and facilities including system-level key components such as mission control, instrumentation or observation, safety control, electric power, launch pad, and so on. In addition, proper operational guidelines are needed with well-trained test and operation personnel. The emerging weapon systems to be deployed in future battle field would thus have to be more precise and dynamic, smarter, thereby requiring more elaboration. Furthermore, the safety consideration is becoming more serious due to the ever-increasing power of explosives. In such a situation, development of live fire test systems seems to be challenging. The objective of the paper is on how to incorporate the safety and other requirements in the development. To achieve the goal, an architectural approach is adopted by utilizing both the system components relationship and safety requirement when advanced instrumentation technology needs to be developed and deteriorated components of the range are replaced. As an evaluation method, it is studied how the level of maturity of the test systems development can be assessed particularly with the safety requirement considered. Based on the concepts of both systems engineering and SoS (System-of-Systems) engineering process, an enhanced model for the system readiness level is proposed by incorporating safety. The maturity model proposed would be helpful in assessing the maturity of safety-critical systems development whereas the costing model would provide a guide on how the reasonable test resource allocation plan can be made, which is based on the live fire test scenario of future complex weapon systems such as SoS.

  • Automatic Train Protection(ATP) System is developed by ETCS(European Train Control System) CONSORTIUM for unify Europe railway system. ATP system is composed of Eurobalise and EuroATC. Nowadays, Korea construct ATP system in conventional line and new electrical locomotives also install ATP system. It is important to verify quality which form checklist during Factory Acceptance Test at beyond the seas. In this paper, review the process, test item, norm and checklist for the Balise Transmission Module, Compact Antenna Unit, Vehicle Control Unit and Communication Controller at the Plymouth Bombardier and Vasteras enics factory.

  • In this paper, full-scale airframe static test of 4-seater canard airplane(the Firefly) was explained. From the results of the structural analysis, 5 design limit loads test conditions and 11 design ultimate loads test conditions were selected. Test loads analysis was performed and test fixtures and load control system(LCS) were prepared to realize the test loads. To protect the test article during the test, the overload protection system was prepared. Strain and deflection values were acquired through the data acquisition system(DAS) to verify the structural analysis results.

  • This paper aims to introduce the Daegwallyeong wind turbine test site which is the first official wind turbine test site in Korea. The current status of test site, the characteristics, the projects performed and future plan of this test site are described. The results of wind condition measurements and monitoring system established by the Kangwon National University are presented. The importance of field test is also commented.

  • The instrumentation system is the most important aspect of a flight test program. It is the means by which the objective of a flight test, the production of accurate, useful data, is achieved. An instrumentation system consists of everything required to sense, condition, and record all parameters of interest The task of a flight test engineer is to select a system that is adequate to obtain all needed data, but not complex, expensive, and heavy than the situation demands. In this paper, the primary factors that determine the design of an instrumentation system are discussed.

  • Owing to remarkable development in automotive industry, vehicle performance comes close to perfection and guarantee of stability is getting emphasized in accordance with high speed trend in vehicle. In recent years, the utilization of automatic test method for research and development of automotive brake system is being propelled actively, which pursue whole automatic control from simple measurement to data acquisition.   • This paper proposes a shaker system design for acceleration test of gimbal. Main reason of shaker system design is to give acceleration to the gimbal, which is moving and tracking the target on the tracking test equipment. The shaker system is mounted on the tracking test equipment. It uses the scotch yoke mechanism to have the constant movement in return. The Scotch yoke mechanism changes the rotational movement of constant velocity to simple harmonic motion.

  • Given a protocol specification, the task of testing whether an implementation conforms to the specification is called conformance testing. In this paper, the design and implementation of the protocol conformance test system using LAN on heterogeneous systems is descreibed. The test sequence used in this test system is generated using an algorithm on the basis of multiple UIO. The usability of this test system as an application was confirmed by performing the conformance test on the CCITT No.7 TCAP(transaction capabilities application part), implemented by ISDN Laboratory, Korea University in 1990.
