An analysis is presented on the stability of an elastic cantilever column subjected to a concentrated follower force as to the influence of the elastic restraint and a tip mass at the free end. The elastic restraint is formed by the rotatory springs. For this purpose, the governing equations and boundary conditions are derived by using Hamilton's principle, and the critical flutter loads and frequencies are obtained from the numerical evaluation of the eigenvalue functions of the considered system.

Crack of breaking toughness of most Ceramics material is 1-5MPa .root.m but that of Zirconia Ceramics is improved to be 6-8MPa .root.m and its development of machining difficult-to-machine material is on the rise as urgent subject. For general Zirconia Ceramics machining, diamond grinding wheel is generally used by selecting an appropriate one and establishing grinding condition but due to such limitations as economics, grinding efficiency and machining geometry, great interest in machining method being used for diamond tool is emphasized. But it is reported that diamond tool is oxidized by cutting heat in the air and is graphitized in vacuum, which causes bad effects on tool life. In this study, to restraint cutting heat the internal side of tool is cooled, and restraint low temperature cooling system and being experimented. Further, the machinability of diamond tool for Zirconia Ceramics machining is analyzed with respect to tool wear and stress.

Under the full frontal crash event, seatbelt system is the most typical and primary restraint device that prevents the second impact between an occupant and vehicle interior parts by limiting the forward motion of an occupant in the vehicle occupant packaging space. Today's restraint systems typically include the three-point seat belt with the pretensioner and the load limiter. A pretensioner preemptively tightens the seat belts removing any slack between a passenger and belt webbing which leads to early restraint of a passenger. After that a load limiter controls level of belt load by releasing the belt webbing to reduce occupant injurys. In this study, load characteristics of load limiters are optimized by the computer simulation with a MADYMO model for a frontal impact against the rigid wall at 56kph and then we suggest performance requirements. We derived optimum load characteristic from the results using four vehicle simulation models represented by the vehicle. Based on the results, we suggest the performance from the results of the second optimization using the simulation considering the design and the standardization. Finally, the performance requirements is verified by the sled tests including the load limiter device for the full vehicle condition.
Focuses of this study are to investigate the usage status of head-restraint system(H/R) in usual driving and to simulate usage conditions of H/R at rear-end crashes. The usage of H/R was categorized into five classes according to the height and distance from occupant's head ; Large-$90^{\circ}$ H/R for enough height and short distance. Large-$70^{\circ}$ H/R for enough height and long distance. Small-$90^{\circ}$ H/R for low height and short distance. Small-$70^{\circ}$ H/R for low height and long distance. and No H/R. Then. these five conditions were tested to find out the degree of neck injuries by using a car-crash simulation package, DYNAMAN. Results from the investigation of H/R usage show that most of drivers(60%) have Small-$70^{\circ}$ H/R for low height and long distance. Results from the simulation performed at 15mph and 30mph show that: 1) at 15 mph, there is a possibility for neck injury in Small-$90^{\circ}$ H/R and Small-$70^{\circ}$ H/R. 2) at 30 mph. there is a high possibility of death in Small-$70^{\circ}$ H/R and Small-$90^{\circ}$ H/R.
Occupant protection performance in frontal crashes has been developed and assessed for mainly front seat occupants over many years, and in recent years protection of rear seat occupants has also been extensively discussed. Unlike the front seats, the rear seats are often occupied by children seated in rear-facing or forward - facing child restraint systems, or booster seats. In the ENCAP, child occupant protection assessments using 18-month-old(P1.5) and 3-year-old(P3) test dummies in the rear seat have already been changed to new type of 18-month-old (Q1.5)and 3-year-old(Q3) test dummies. In addition, ENCAP are scheduled with the development and introduction of test dummies of 6-year-old (Q6) and 10.5-year-old children(Q10) starting 2016. In KNCAP, Q6 and Q10 child dummies will be introduced in 2017 as well. Automobile manufacturers need to develop safety performance for new child dummies closely. In this paper, we focused on Q6 and Q10 child dummies sitting in child restraint system. Offset frontal crash tests were conducted using two types of test dummies, Q6 and Q10 child dummies, positioned in the rear seat. Q6 and Q10 were used to compare dummy kinematics in rear seating positions between Q6 behind the driver's seat and Q10 behind the front passenger's seat. The full vehicle sled test results of both dummies were conducted with different restraint systems. It showed that several injury and image data was collected as the result of the full vehicle sled test. Based on the results of these investigations, this paper describes which factor is most important and combination is the best performance when evaluating rear seat occupant protection for Q6 and Q10 child dummies.

Safety performance of a new car is evaluated through USNCAP and their results in the star rating are provided to the consumers. It is very important to obtain high score of USNCAP to appeal their performance to consumers. Therefore the car companies have made the effort to improve their car safety performance. These efforts should satisfy the demand not only to get high score but also to pass the FMVSS, NHTSA regulations on safety. Huge numbers of car crash tests have been conducted on these bases by car companies. However physical tests spend too much cost and time, as an alternative way, the simulation on the car crash could be a solution to reduce the cost and time. Therefore the simulations have been widely conducted in car industry and various researches on this have been reported. In this study, restraint system had been optimized to minimize the injury of female passenger. Belted $5^{th}%ile$ female frontal crash test was selected from various test methods of USNCAP for the study. Initial velocity of the test was 56km/h. The combination injury probability of USNCAP was selected as an objective function and the injury limit value, which was defined in FMVSS, was set to an optimization constraint. Many researches that were similar to this study had been conducted, however most of them had limitation that interaction between airbag and safety belt had not been considered. Contrary to these researches, the interaction was considered in this study.

Purpose: Stress activates the sympathetic nervous system and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and induces the release of glucocorticoids. Saccharin is 300 times sweeter than sucrose, but does not increase blood insulin levels. Thus, this study was designed to evaluate the effect of saccharin intake in restraint-induced stress response reduction in rats. Methods: Adult male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats had stress induced by restraint for 2 hours/day for 1 week. Saccharin was provided in sufficient amounts to allow them to intake it voluntarily at 0.1% diluted in water. The Y-maze test and forced swim test (FST) were performed to evaluate cognitive function and the depressive behavior of the rats. The protein expression of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) in hippocampal cornu ammonis (CA) 1 was investigated by using immunohistochemistry. Results: It was found that, the percentage of alternation in the Y-maze test was significantly (p<.01) higher in the Stress + saccharin group than in the Stress group. Immobility time in the FST was significantly (p<.01) lower in the Stress + saccharin group than in the Stress group. Also, the positive cells of GR in hippocampus CA1 were significantly (p<.05) lower in the Stress + saccharin group than in the Stress group. Conclusion: This study showed that there was an effect of saccharin intake in restraint-induced stress response reduction in rats.
As the popularization of autonomous vehicles is anticipated, it is expected that the variety of passenger postures will diversify. However, the current vehicle safety system is expected to be inadequate for accommodating these diverse passenger postures, particularly in reclined positions where severe injuries have been reported in frontal collisions. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the biomechanical responses and tolerances of occupants in reclined postures. In this study, the behavior and injuries of a Hybrid-III dummy model in a reclined position are analyzed through frontal collision sled simulations equipped with the semi-rigid seat provided by the previous study, three-point safety belt with pretensioner and load limiter, and airbag models. The results are evaluated by comparing thouse reponses with post-mortem human surrogate (PMHS) data, and the findings are expected to be applicable to the basic design of a new restraint system suitable for various postures in autonomous vehicles.

The most widely used primary protection for the internal fault detection of the power transformer is current ratio differential relaying (CRDR) with harmonic restraint. However, the second harmonic component could be decreased by magnetizing inrush when there have been changes to the material of the iron core or its design methodology. The higher the capacitance of the high voltage status and underground distribution, the more the differential current includes the second harmonic during the occurrence of an internal fault. Therefore, the conventional second harmonic restraint CRDR must be modified. This paper proposes a numerical algorithm for enhanced power transformer protection. This algorithm enables a clear distinction regarding internal faults as well as magnetizing inrush and steady state. It does this by analyzing the RMS fluctuation of terminal voltage, instantaneous value of the differential current, RMS changes, harmonic component analysis of differential current, and analysis of flux-differential slope characteristics. Based on the results of testing with WatATP99 simulation data, the proposed algorithm demonstrated more rapid and reliable performance.
