  • We demonstrate the preliminary results of ship detection application using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and automatic identification system (AIS) together. Multi-frequency and multi-temporal SAR images such as TerraSAR-X and Cosmo-SkyMed (X-band), and Radarsat-2 (C-band) are acquired over the West Sea in South Korea. In order to compare with SAR data, we also collected an AIS data. The SAR data are pre-processed considering by the characteristics of scattering mechanism as for sea surface. We proposed the "Adaptive Threshold Algorithm" for classification ship efficiently. The analyses using the combination of the SAR and AIS data with time series will be very useful to ship detection or tracing of the ship.

  • This study investigated the application of the successive correction method(SCM), a simple data assimilation method, for synthesizing the radar and rain gauge data. First, the number of iteration and influence radius for the SCM application were decided based on their sensitivity analysis. Also, for the evaluation of synthetic rainfall, the distributed rainfall field using the dense rainfall gauge network was assumed to be the true one. The synthetic rainfall field based on the SCM was also compared quantitatively with the one based on the co-Kriging frequently used nowadays. As the results, the SCM, a simple and economical data assimilation method, was found to secure the accuracy and statistical characteristics of the co-Kriging application.

  • In this paper, a vehicle type recognition system using deep learning and a license plate recognition system are proposed. In the existing system, the number plate area extraction through image processing and the character recognition method using DNN were used. These systems have the problem of declining recognition rates as the environment changes. Therefore, the proposed system used the one-stage object detection method YOLO v3, focusing on real-time detection and decreasing accuracy due to environmental changes, enabling real-time vehicle type and license plate character recognition with one RGB camera. Training data consists of actual data for vehicle type recognition and license plate area detection, and synthetic data for license plate character recognition. The accuracy of each module was 96.39% for detection of car model, 99.94% for detection of license plates, and 79.06% for recognition of license plates. In addition, accuracy was measured using YOLO v3 tiny, a lightweight network of YOLO v3.

  • To characterize virtual reflection images of deep subsurface by the method of seismic interferometry, we analyzed effects of offset range, ambient noise, missing data, and statics on interferograms. For the analyses, seismic energy was simulated to be generated by a 5 Hz point source at the surface. Vertical components of particle velocity were computed at 201 sensor locations at 100 m depths of 1 km intervals by the finite difference method. Each pair of synthetic seismic traces was cross-correlated to generate stacked reflection section by the conventional processing method. Wide-angle reflection problems in reflection interferometry can be minimized by setting a maximum offset range. Ambient noise, missing data, and statics turn to yield processing noise that spreads out from virtual sources due to stretch mutes during normal moveout corrections. The level of processing noise is most sensitive to amplitude and duration time of ambient noise in stacked sections but also affected by number of missing data and the amount of statics.

  • One of the methods of removing cyanide from wastewater is surface adsorption. We simulated the removal of cyanide from a synthetic wastewater in the presence of Titanium dioxide nano-particles absorbent uses VISUAL MINTEQ 3.1 software. Our aim was to determine the factors affecting the adsorption of cyanide from synthetic wastewater applying simulation. Synthetic wastewater with a concentration of 100 mg/l of potassium cyanide was used for simulation. The amount of titanium dioxide was 1 g/l under the temperature of $25^{\circ}C$. The simulation was performed using an adsorption model of Freundlich and constant capacitance model. The results of simulation indicated that three factors including pH, nanoparticles of titanium dioxide and the primary concentration of cyanide affect the adsorption level of cyanide. The simulation and experimental results had a good agreement. Also by increasing the pH level of adsorption increases 11 units and then almost did not change. An increase in cyanide concentration, the adsorption level was decreased. In simulation process, rising the concentrations of titanium dioxide nanoparticles to 1 g/l, the rate of adsorption was increased and afterward no any change was observed. In all cases, the coefficient of determination between the experimental data and simulation data was above 0.9.

  • The spatial variation of ground motion in Kolkata Metropolitan District (KMD) has been estimated by generating synthetic ground motion considering the point source model coupled with site response analysis. The most vulnerable source was identified from regional seismotectonic map for an area of about 350 km radius around Kolkata. The rock level acceleration time histories at 121 borehole locations in Kolkata for the vulnerable source, Eocene Hinge Zone, due to maximum credible earthquake (MCE) moment magnitude 6.2 were generated by synthetic ground motion model. Soil investigation data of 121 boreholes were collected from the report of Soil Data Bank Project, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Surface level ground motion parameters were determined using SHAKE2000 software. The results are presented in the form of peak ground acceleration (PGA) at rock level and ground surface, amplification factor, and the response spectra at the ground surface for frequency 1.5 Hz, 3 Hz, 5 Hz and 10 Hz and 5% damping ratio. Site response study shows higher PGA in comparison with rock level acceleration. Maximum amplification in some portion in KMD area is found to be as high as 3.0 times compared to rock level.

  • Abstract The purpose of the synthetic of monthly river flows based on the short-term observed data by means of multivariate stochastic models is to provide abundunt input data to the water resources systems of which the system performance and operation policy are to be determined beforehand. In this study, multivariate Thomas-Fiering and Matalas models for synthetic generation based on stream flows in neihboring basin were employed to check if it can be applide in the modeling of monthly flows. Statistical parameters estimated by Method of Moment and Fourier Series Analysis respectively were reproduced for statistical features. For comparisons the statistical parameters of the generated monthly flow by each model were compared with those of the observed monthly flows. Results of this study suggest that the application of Matalas model for synthetic generation of monthly river flows can be adapted.

  • Synthetic resin formwork is made of lightweight high-density polyethylene(HDPE). This study used a process flow chart that satisfies the system boundary (such as Cradle-to- Product shipmen ) required by ISO FDIS 13352 to evaluate the entire process of synthetic resin foam using. The entire life cycle inventory (LCI) database calculated from input energy sources, materials used, transportation methods, and manufacturing processes at the system boundary was analyzed. Based on the environmental impact assessment index methodology of the Ministry of Environment from the LCI data analysis of synthetic resin formwork, the environmental impact assessment was carried out through classification, normalization, characterization, and weighting process. The experimental results are as follows the amount of CO2 (carbon) emission considering the number of conversions was about 32% lower than that of the Euroform. This shows that the use of synthetic resin formwork reduces material production by half compared to Euroform and reduces CO2 (carbon) emissions.
