  • We scrutinized the Korean taxonomic literature, with special focus on some nomenclatural points and four different cases were listed categorically. Several naked names (nomen nudum), invalidly published names, typographical and orthographical errors, incorrect use of hybrid names and authorship, and errors in the citation of the bibliographic references have appeared in newly published literature in Korea, due to misapplications of ICBN (International Code of Botanical Nomenclature). Although literature review and synonyms are imperative and essential elements of taxonomic study, many author citations tend to be copied from one publication to another without any confirmation of the original source. It is strongly recommended that scientists who have previously published careless work should be more careful, and they should be instructed to read original descriptions and to learn current practices in the code.

  • This paper proposes an intelligent search modeling using avatar agent. This system consists of some modules such as agent interface, agent management, preprocessor, interface machine. Core-Symbol Database and Spell Checker are related to the preprocessor module and Interface Machine is connected with Best Aggregate Designer. Our avatar agent system does the indexing work that converts user's natural language type sentence to the proper words that is suitable for the specific branch information retrieval. Indexing is one of the preprocessing steps that make it possible to guarantee the specialty of user's input and increases the reliability of the result. It references a database that consists of synonym and specific branch dictionary. The resulting symbol after indexing is used for draft search by the internet search engine. The retrieval page position and link information are stored in the database. We experimented our system with the stock market keyword SAMSUNG_SDI, IBM, and SONY and compared the result with that of Altavista and Google search engine. It showed quite excellent results.

  • Four external and 27 cranial characters of Korean field mice (Apodemus peninsuluek from nine localities in eastern Asia, representing ave subspecies, were analyzed by multivariate statistical methods. Three forms were recognized: a large-size form from Korea (subspecies peninsulael, southern Manchuria (praeto4, and northern Manchuria (majofi a middle-size form from urestern Siberia (tschergal and southuvestern China (sowerbyi); a small-size form from northeastern China (sowerbyi). It is also revealed that variations among the three forms are clinal rind circular. It is confirmed that Apodemus peninsuloe could be classified into two subspecies (peninsulae and sowerbyl) within the distribution range in the continent of Asia, as noted tv Corbel (1978). However, it is found that subspecies peninsulae includes praetor and moior and that subspecies sowerbyi includes tscherga, indicating that subspecies tscherga is not the synonym of subspecies peninsulae, but that of subspecies sowerbyi.

  • Acquired adult flatfoot is a deformity characterized by a decreased medial longitudinal arch and a hindfoot valgus with or without forefoot abduction. The etiologies of this deformity include posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, rheumatoid arthritis, trauma, Charcot's joint, neurologic deficit, and damage to the medial spring ligament complex or plantar fascia. Among these, posterior tibial tendon dysfunction is the most well-known cause. Although posterior tibial tendon dysfunction has been regarded as a synonym of acquired adult acquired flatfoot, failure of the ligaments supporting the arch can also result in progressive deformity even without a posterior tibial tendon problem. The authors describe the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and nonoperative treatment of acquired adult flatfoot, focusing on posterior tibial tendon dysfunction.

  • Background : Currently, ontology research has led the trend of technical development in medical informatics area. For Korean medicine, the reference terminology should be developed to facilitate the ontology research. Objective : This research aimed to design the management system for traditional Korean medical terms. Method :We built the internet-based system in which multi-users work simultaneously by using the relational database system(SQL Server2005) and visual studio 2005. Result : By this system, researchers can collect, refine, and inspect Korean medicine terms efficiently, and the terms can be transcribed into synonym, Korean, Chinese, and simplified Chinese. It enables the terms be input into the system accurately and managed by its classification. Conclusion : We developed the concept groups and its hierarchy system for Korean medicine terms which provides the basis for ontology system.

  • Previous surveys on Ulleung-do (Dagelet Isl.) found just ten earthworm taxa while the current survey unearthed a dozen species. Placement of parthenogenetic 'tube' Amynthas dageletensis Hong & Kim, 2005 is resolved as it clearly belongs in synonymy of Metaphire soulensis (Kobayashi, 1938) which becomes a new Ulleung-do record. Other new megascolecids are recorded since Amynthas heteropodus (Goto & Hatai, 1898) and A. baemsagolensis Hong & James, 2001 are confirmed as synonyms of A. corticis (Kinberg, 1867) and A. carnosus (Goto & Hatai, 1899), respectively. The latter taxon is differentiated and its synonym A. pingi (Stephenson, 1925) provisionally revived. New lumbricids are Bimastos parvus (Eisen, 1874), Eisenia japonica (Michaelsen, 1892) and questionably Dendrodrilus rubidus (Savigny, 1826). All confirmed species are common exotics with no endemics. Drawida moniligastrids were not yet located on this remote island for reasons unknown.

An Analysis of the process acting as a driver of the expansion of meanings in the synonym-antonym net: the meanings of '틀리다' ranging from "be wrong" to "be different" ([다름]의 '틀리다'를 형성하는 유의-반의 관계망 분석)

  • '맞다(right)', which is inversely related to 'teullida', has a synonymic relationship with '같다(same)' depending on the sense. Naturally, the '같다' is usually inversely related to '다르다(be different)' as symmetry verb. The meaning of '다르다' is 'teullida' and there is a close meaning relationship network in the network of words. In other words, the process acting as a driver of the expansion of meanings based on the antonym-relation of (1)'틀리다${\leftrightarrow}$맞다', and the s?ynonym-relation of (2)'맞다 = 같다' forms a network, and the relation between them and the opposite semantics is (3)'같다=맞다${\leftrightarrow}$다르다'. And many of today's speakers speak (4)'teullida' of [difference]. Therefore, after the application of the synonymic analogy, eventually, the antonymic analogy is formed, and the word formed is 'teullida' of [difference]. This, of course, forms another type of enlargement of the meaning.

  • The specimens of caddisflies previously recorded as Sortosa distincta (Walker, 1852), Rhyacophila uchidai Kobayashi, 1989, Rhyacophila jirisana Kobayashi, 1989, Crunobiodes koriaensis Kobayashi, 1989, and Ganonema odaenum Kobayashi, 1989 from South Korea were reexamined. Rhyacophila uchidai and R. jirisana are newly synonymized with R. retracta Martynov, 1914 and R. vicina Botosaneanu, 1970, respectively. We reconfirm two synonyms, C. koriaensis with Lepidostoma sinuatum (Martynov, 1935) and G. odaenum with Psilotreta locumtenens Botosaneanu, 1970, and a misidentification of Dolophilodes affinis Levanidova and Arefina, 1996 as S. distincta. Some specimens recorded as G. odaenum are identified as Psilotreta falcula Botosaneanu, 1970.
