  • In this paper, The basic design and the steady-state performances of a high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor/generator (PMSMG) for gas-turbine are presented. For deveoping a high-speed machine, it must be taken account into the mechanical view as well as the electrical because of high centrifugal force of a rotor. Based on considering those, this paper deals with the characteristics of generating mode and motoring mode from a electrical point of view.

  • This paper deals with the design of an 870 krpm class high-speed permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) applied to micro turbine system. Since space where the high-speed PMSG coupled with the micro turbine occupies in the system is strictly limited, the work described in this paper is motivated by the desire to make maximum output power of the generator considering the rotor and stator structures, winding methods and bearing system under restricted space.

  • In this paper, we investigated the iron losses in the rotor core of interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM), which have distributed armature windings. From the analysis results, we can conclude that iron losses of rotor are definitely large at load condition if the number of slots per pole is fractional. Since the slot-pole combination may induce excessive heating, particular care should be necessary in design of PMSM for a high power rating application such as electric vehicles.

  • This paper presents a MIMO nonlinear controller for the power system consisting of a turbine and a synchronous generator connected to an infinite bus. The controller proposed is based on feedback input-output linearization; its main goal is to regulate the terminal voltage and frequency, and is to improve the transient stability under large disturbances and unexpected faults. It is guaranteed that the voltage converges to its reference value exponentially, and that the frequency and the mechanical/electrical power are bounded. The design procedure is tested on a single machine infinite bus power system through simulations, and is seen to be effective.

  • This paper suggestes a SRM drive scheme which include power angle control like synchronous machine and a Phase Locked LooP(PLL) control. The power angle control scheme regulates instantly dwell angle as load torque variation, but this is some disadvantages which are losing of synchronism and hunting when load changes abruptly. To increasing synchronism, the Phase Locked Loop control scheme is adopted.

  • With the tendency toward high speed and high pressure in centrifugal pumps, the problem of sub-synchronous vibration has arisen, caused by the hydraulic forces of the working fluid, such as wearring, balance piston, impeller, etc.. These forces can drastically alter the rotor critical speeds and stability characteristics, and can be acted significant destabilizing forces. For preventing such self-excited vibration, the desing of the rotor system needs, which would secure the stability of the machine. In this paper, a procedure is presented for dynamic modeling of rotor-bearing-seal-impeller systems which consist of rigid disks, distributed parameter finite rotor elements and discrete bearings, seals and impellers. A finite element model including the effects of rotatory inertia and gyroscopic moments is developed using the consistent matrix approach. The technique of dynamic matrix reduction is applied to the shaft matrices to reduce them to a set of matrices of dynamic of significantly fewer degrees of freedom. The representation of bearing, seal and impeller elements is in term of linearized stiffness and damping matrices by reasonably small perturbations from equilibrium. The stability behavior of a typical double suction centrifugal pump is presented. Results show the influence of clearance and flow conditions on running speeds and stability characteristics.

  • 전력계통의 정태안정도 해석에서 발전기의 특성을 정확히 모델링하는 것을 해석결과의 정확도에 매우 큰 영향을 미치게 된다. 본 논문은 발전기 무한모선 계통을 사용하여 발전기의 특성을 정확히 해석하고자 하는 경우에 발전기의 포화특성을 종래의 동일축 전류성분에 의한 포화특성뿐만 아니라 교차자화 효과에 의한 포화특성까지 고려하여 보다 정확한 해석이 가능하도록 하였다. 동일축 성분의 포화 특성과 교차자화 효과에 의한 포화특성을 고려하여 발전기를 해석하기 위한 기준 좌표계로 발전기의 d축이 q축 보다 위상이 90$^{\circ}$앞서는 좌표계를 사용 관계식을 재정립하여 정태안정도 해석에 사용하던 기존의 발전기모델과 일치하도록 하였다. 사례연구를 통해서 포화특성을 정확히 고려하여 발전기를 모델링하는 것이 해석결과의 정확도에 매우 큰 영향을 미치는 것을 보였고, 다양한 계통조건에 대한 정태안정도 해석을 통해서 계통조건의 변화에 따라 포화특성에 영향을 미치는 요소들의 변화를 파악하였다.

  • This paper presents a design method of synchronous generator excitation controller using self-tuning PID algorithm. Controller parameter is determined by using adaptive control theory in order to maintain optimal operation of generator under the various operating conditions. To determine the optimal parameter of controller. minimum variance algorithm using the recursive leastsquare(RLS) indentification method is adopted and the difference between the speed deviation with weighted factor and voltage deviation is used as the input signal of adaptive controller, which provides good damping and conversion characteristics. The results tested on a single machine infinite bus system verify that the proposed controller has better dynamic performances than conventional controller.

  • The selection of optimum parameters in electromagnetic design usually requires optimization of multimodal, non linear functions. This leads to extensive calculations which pose a huge inconvenience in the design process. This paper proposes a novel algorithm for dealing efficiently with this issue. Through the use of contour line concept coupled with Kriging, the algorithm finds out all the peaks in the problem domain with as few function calls as possible. The proposed algorithm is applied to the magnet shape optimization of an axial flux permanent magnet synchronous machine and the cogging torque was reduced to 79.8% of the initial one.

  • This paper presents the double side PM synchronous motor/generator for core loss reduction in flywheel energy storage system. The use of double PM rotor causes the elimination of core loss in no-load state of machine. Because flywheel rotational speed is reduced by core loss, double PM rotor is very effective in flywheel system. This paper suggests two types of double side PM rotor, Halbach magnetized array and parallel magnetized array. And characteristic comparison according to thickness of rotor back core is performed.
