  • Purpose: The role of sex role identity types and health promoting behaviors in relation to premenstrual symptoms and interrelatedness among the three variables were examined. Methods: A cross sectional descriptive study was employed with 327 female university students. KSRI, HPLP, and MDQ were used as measurement tools. Results: Four types of sex role identities were classified; undifferentiated(33.7%), androgyny (32.7%), masculinity(16.8%), and femininity(16.8%) in order. Premenstrual symptoms(F=3.11, p= .027) and health promoting behaviors(F=12.74, p= .000) were significantly different by sex role identity types. As determinants of premenstrual symptoms, health promoting behaviors for all subjects, stress coping for the feminine type, and interpersonal relationships for the undifferentiated type were identified. In discriminating between the feminine type and undifferentiated type, premenstrual symptoms and self responsibility were shown as significant factors. Conclusion: Interrelatedness among sex role identity, health promoting behaviors and premenstrual symptoms imply the importance of a psychosocial aspect in premenstrual symptoms. Therefore, these three variables should be applied more specifically for nursing assessment and management of women having premenstrual symptoms.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the prevalence of self-reported musculoskeletal symptoms among the three Taiwan's traditional industries as lathe, electronics and food by the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ). Moreover, the study was also to make a comparison among the aforesaid industries for revealing their differences. The result of the questionnaire indicated that the symptoms appeared on the three industries were all originated from four parts as neck, shoulders, elbows, and wrists/hands. More than 68% of the interviewers thought that their symptoms might be related to their work. However, the rate of harmful influence resulted from life or job was over 50%. As to the respect of the interviewers' attitude in treating their symptoms, more than 80% of them neglected or just treated the symptoms by massaging or cold/hot compressing and resting. From the questionnaire, the proportion of symptoms discussed in each item indicated that the distribution, in perceiving symptom, of interviewers were not quite identical; however the Chi-square test discovered majority did not reach 0.05 levels, hence the difference among industries were not significant.

Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire from OR nurses working at 8 polyclinics in Korea during the period from July 26 2004 to August 19 2004. The questionnaire contains 7 questions on general characteristics and 18 questions on tasks in the operating room. Result: 187 (75.1%) nurses said they 'had' subjective musculoskeletal symptoms. Statistically significant differences were observed according to clinical career, career as an OR nurse, skillfulness, satisfaction with tasks in the operating room, perception on suitable treatment, care of symptoms by the hospital. weight of hospital linen and weight of a basic operation set (p<.05). Conclusion: Musculoskeletal symptoms complained of by OR nurses were significant. This may cause difficulties in nursing tasks in the operating room. Thus, various arrangements should be made for OR nurse with subjective musculoskeletal symptoms at the early stage.

  • After looking into the systems of differentiate syndromes that referred in the Huang Di Nei Jung and the four authority of the Gum-Won dynasty which included the concept of the Myong-Chung dynasty's and the use of various symptoms occurred in clinical observation of apoplexy for material of differentiate syndromes, the result suggested as follows. 1. The system of differentiate syndromes is classified into interior and exterior beforeGum-Won dynasty. 2. In etiological (actors in apoplexy, the four authority of Gum-won dynasty insist on theendogenous theory. they compart the system of differentiate syndromes into apoplexy involving Jang Bu organs and blood vessels, but they did not escape from the system of interior and exterior. 3. The hallmark of exterior symptoms in apoplexy was the presence of syndromes in the six meridians, but in interior, constipation or difficulty in urination was the limitation. A(ter theprevious symptoms had been cured, tonifying therapy was used. 4. New concepts named Endogenous Wind SOTing In The Liver'and others in which oldsystems did not included was presented in Myong-Chung dynasty. 5. The old concept of the interior and exterior symptoms charactered with syndromes in thesix meridians, constipation and difficulty in urination can be replaced with internal andexternal symptoms. In old systems of differentiate symptoms in apoplexy, if replace interior and exteriorsymptoms with internal and external, we can include various differentiate configuration on thebasis of the conclusion. Because symptoms in apoplexy can be used in material of differentiate symptoms, I think that the prolongation of investigation is needed.

It is possible to build a database by analyzing the symptoms of Korean Medicine(KM) that indicates patient's symptoms in natural language. Using the database, when doctors record patient's symptoms on EMR in natural language, conversely it'll be also possible to extract the symptoms of KM from those natural language. The database will enhance the value of EMR as a medical data. Methods : In this study, we aimed to make data structure of the terminologies that represent the symptoms of KM. The data structure is combinations of smallest unit in natural language. We made the database by analyzing morpheme of the natural language to express the symptoms of KM. Results & Conclusions : By classifying the natural language in 15 features, we made the structure of concept and the data available for morphological analysis.

In body constitution pathology, it brought up "correlation between body constitution and symptoms", "differentiation between body constitution and symptoms" which increase the diagnostic level and diagnostic accuracy rate. In the condition of pathology, it obviously has low reliability according to body constitution differentiation, sometimes happen the description not comply with body constitution and disease symptoms, which lead to decrease the clinic diagnostic and treatment level, treatment effect not satisfying too.
