The purpose of this study is to investigate on the clinical and radiographic patterns of cystogenic ameloblastoma of the jaws. The author studied 64 cases of cystogenic ameloblastoma with regard to age, sex distribution, the site of the lesion and several radiographic features. The results were as follows: 1. The average age was found to be 23.0 years, with a range of 4 to 56 years. The incidence was highest in the second and third decades (72%) and total 64 cases consists of 36 males and 28 females. 2. Fifty-nine cases were found in mandible and 5 cases in maxilla. 3. The specific site distribution was found to be 57.8% ramus, coronoid process and condyle, 34.4% premolar-molar region, and 7.8% were located in mandibular symphysis bilaterally. 4. From the total 64 cases, 28 (44%) were associated with an impacted tooth, especially mandibular second and third molar, 36(52%) failed to show any association with tooth impaction. It was found that the average age for impaction-associated tumors was 19.8 years whereas lesions without impaction occurred at an average age of 25.6 years, which was statistically significant. 5. Fifty-three(82%) cases showed unilocular radiolucencies, eleven (17%) cases showed multilocular radiolucencies. It was found that the average age for unilocular lesions was 22.3 years whereas lesions showing multilocularity occurred at an average age of 26.4 years, which was not statistically significant. 6. Of the 21 patients who had been followed for more than 2 years, only 4 patients treated by enucleation or curettage recurred (19% recurrence).

Purpose: To research about maxillofacial traumatic injuries of children in aspects of gender difference, various incidence rates between age, trauma type, cause, monthly and daily incidence rate, type of tooth damage, gingival damage, soft tissue damage, and type of facial bone fracture. Materials and methods: Study group consisted of children under 15 years of age who visited Dental Hospital, School of Dentistry, Kyung Hee University from 2004/7/1 to 2007/6/30 with chief complaint of oral and maxillofacial traumatic injuries. 1,559 cases of traumatic injuries were studied from 1,556 (1,004 male, 552 female) children. Conclusion: 1. There were slightly more boys than girls, giving a male-to-female ratio of 1.82:1.0. The 1-3 year old boys and girls had the highest number of traumatic injuries. 2. Of the 1,556 patients, 68.63% had soft tissue injuries, 50.22% had periodontal injuries, 29.89% had teeth injuries, and 3.85% had maxillofacial bone fractures. 3. Falling down was the most common cause of injury in both sexes. 4. The months with the highest incidence rates were in order May (12.12%), June (11.74%), and October (11.13%). Most of the injuries occurred on weekends. 5. The most common tooth injury was uncomplicated crown fracture, and the most common periodontal injury was subluxation. The majority of traumatizes teeth were the upper central incisors. 6. The most common soft tissue injury was intraoral lacerations. 7. Mandibular fractures were most frequent in facial bone fractures; symphysis, condylar head, and angle fractures were most frequent in mandibular fractures; maxillary and nasal bone fractures were most frequent in midfacial bone fractures.
Schistosomus reflexus is the most common monstrosity found in cases of bovine dystocia and it occurs mostly in cattle. Caesarian section performed and retracted abnormal foetus from dystocia in Holstein cow. It was the first observed schistosomus reflexus Holstein calf in Korea. The body and chest walls were bent laterally and dorsally leaving the thoracic and abdominal viscera exposed. Clefts of the sternum from part of the defect in which there is, simultaneously, lordosis, dorsal reflection of the ribs and complete eventration of viscera, severe ventral curvature of the spinal column, non-union of the pelvic symphysis and dorsal reflection of the pelvic bones with the occiput of the head lying near the sacrum. The limbs are usually ankylosed. The liver was abnormal in shape and cystic in nature. The lung was smaller and thymus were bigger than those of the normal calf, The ruminant stomach was normal, however, abomasum distended with amnionic fluid. The other organ including heart, spleen and internal organ have normal shape.
It is thought that a composition of trousers is related to fabrics with single breadth. Therefore, trousers are designed with pattern using this fabrics with single breadth. However, in the old pattern of trousers, the breadth of 33cm-35cm was not considered in designing patterns. In this context, deciding which pattern design is better is not easy as there are a variety of estimation methods. So in this study, standardization of drafting is pursued by an objective pattern design. For this, a base angle of the trouser closely relating to a form and function was measured and using the height and the base angle, a trouser pattern design was tried. For a measurement of the base angle, 5 subject were selected. They are 25-29 year-old male graduates with fine physical standard. The base angle was measured with symphysis pubis point as a standard when subjects sat with their legs crossed, when they stood with their legs open (not forced artificially) and when they laid down with their legs open. The distance between a knee inside joint and knees was measured three times and the resultant value was used for the pattern design. For a design of trousers, the height was applied and the base angle was fixed. As a pattern drawing, using the height, a base angle and circumference of the hip, a trouser was designed. The production method for the pattern design is as follow: (1) The length formula, is height + $\frac{height}{2}$ (2) The hip girth formula is $\frac{hipgirth}{2}$ - $\frac{hipgirth}{20}$(3) A crotch angle is fixed at $72^{\circ}$. (4) The ratio of outer leg length to leg width is 5 : 8. (5) The component ratio of the upper outer leg length to the pant length is 5 : 8. (6) The ratio of the division point of front right inner leg length and left inner width to upper outer leg length is 5 : 8.
Functional recovery associated with mouth opening after mandibular condyle fracture was a contradictory result of many authors. The treatment goal of condyle fracture has been not only the good reduction and fixation but also the rapid functional recovery with mouth opening capacity. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the mouth opening capacity after surgical or non-surgical treatment of condyle fracture according to the site, level, maxillomandibular fixation(MMF) and operation method based on 39 patents with condyle fracture who were admitted to the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Wonkwang University Hospital from May.1, 1990 to Aug.31, 1992. The results were as follows. 1. The most common fracture site was level IV (17 cases : 42.2%) and level I (14 cases : 36.8%), level II (5 cases: 13.2%) and level III(3 cases : 7.9%) were in decreasing order of frequency. Compound fracture with symphysis was more frequent (69.2%) than simple fracture(30.8%). 2. The mouth opening capacity was increased in the level I compared with level IV. 3. The mouth opening capacity was increased in the group of segment removal. 4. The mouth opening capacity was increased in the MMF period was decreased. 5. Better mouth opening capacity was recorded in the physical therapy group of more than 3-4 weeks of treatment period.
The author investigated the 162 patients with the condylar fractres of the mandible who were admitted in Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hospital of Chosun Dental School from January 1985 to September 1992 clinically, including fracture incidennce, age and sex of the patients, causes of injures, associated injures, treatments and complications and obtained the following results. 1. Of the 449 patients with mandibular fractures, 162patients suffered condylar fractures(36.1%). 2. Of the 162 patients, males with condylar fractures were 128 patients, by a ratio of 3.8 : 1. 3. The most frequently affected age group was the third decade(32.7%). 4. Falls were ranked as the predominant cause(50.6%), followed by traffic accident(27.8%) and violence (16.0%). 5. The incidence of single condylar fractures was 28% and symphysis fractures were the most commomest of the concomittant injuries(60%). 6. The subcondylar fractures occurred most frequently(41.6%) and anteromedial displacement of the condylar fragments occurred most frequently(45.4%) 7. Of the all condylar fracture patients, children under 15 of age comprized 31 patients(19.1%) and condylar head fractures occurred most frequently at those children. 8. Of the managetments in condylar fractures, open reduction was 52.5% and remainder were closed reduction(47.5%). 9. Complications ensured such as TMJ ankylosis, limitation of mouth opening and mandibular movements, TMJ dysfunction, and anterior open bite.
Background and Objectives: Fibula is the flap of choice for reconstruction of wide mandible defects after tumor ablation surgery. In mandible reconstruction, restoring the mandible frame to provide mandibular contour and dental arch while restoring masticatory function are important. Even though vascularized fibula can be osteotomized freely, proper design and flap insetting is not easy because of its three dimensional structure and difference in design according to the defect sites. We reviewed patients who underwent mandible reconstruction with fibular flaps according to the defect sites and suggest proper modification methods of fibular flap according to the various defects sites after tumor ablation surgery. Materials and Methods: Twelve consecutive mandible reconstruction with fibular free flaps were performed for defects after tumor ablation surgery. Patients were classified into 4 groups according to the type of mandibular defect(Group 1 : defect on central segment including symphysis, Group 2 : defect on lateral segment(with or without central segment) confined to body, Group 3 : defect on body and ascending ramus that does not include the condyle, Group 4 : defect including the condyle). Results: We suggest different modification methods of fibular free flap for each patient group. Group 1, 3 ; contour by using multiple closing wedge osteotomy. Group 2 ; single or double barrel reconstruction without wedge osteotomy. Group 4 ; contour using single or multiple wedge osteotomy and condylar reconstruction with costochondral graft. Conclusion: Fibular free flaps can be contoured to any desired shape after multiple osteotomies to restore various mandibular defects. It is a reliable and versatile method for reconstruction of mandibular defects after tumor ablation surgery.

Purpose : This study evaluated the usefulness of resorbable plate and screw for treatment of maxillofacial bone fractures. Patients and methods : From july, 2000 to july, 2002, we used resorbable plates and screws($Biosorb^{(R)}$ FX, Bionix Inc, Finland) on 126 patients for treatment of maxillofacial bone fractures. Among them, 80 patients were capable of periodic following up to present season. We evaluated these patients with clinical, radiographic findings and subjective satisfaction. Results : 80 patients composed of 63 men and 17 women. Complication rates are 7.5%(6/80) recorded. 1 of bulging sensation, 3 of infection sign, 2 of the plate detachment were shown. The plates involved in such complications were removed. The other patients(92.5%) were not shown any problems. We could not find complete resorption of screw holes in the mandibular symphysis area even though two years later after surgery. Conclusion : Bioresorbable plates and screws are useful as fixation material at maxillofacial fractures although strength is thought to be weaker than titanium plate. But to reduce the possible complicaions, need to careful clinical and radiographical evaluations.
Bony remodeling pattern of condyle fractures in children are different from in adult for growing of condyle, also might affect treatment and prognosis of the condyle fracture. Subjects of this clinical and radiologic study were 26 temporomandibular joints diagnosed as condyle fracture in 23 patients under 15 years old age. They were treated with conservative method at Dental Hospital of Yonsei University from Jan., 1986 to Oct., 1994. Bony remodeling related with fracture pattern was evaluated. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The ratio of male to female in patients with condyle fracture was 1 : 0.9 and the difference of sex ratio was not noted. Comparing with preschool-age group and school-age group, age frequency was higher in preschool-age group(83%). 2. Fallen down(54%) was the most frequent cause of condyle fractures. Traffic accident and slip down were followed. 3. The most common clinical sign of condyle fractures was tenderness to paipation09 cases). Mouth opening limitation07 cases), swelling(7 cases), malocclusion(3 cases) were next in order. 4. According to sites of condyle fractures, unilateral fractures were in 20 patients and bilateral fractures in 3 patients, therefore total 23 patients-26 cases of condyle fracture were observed. According to fracture distribution, condyle fractures were in 10 patients(44%). Condyle fractures with symphysis fracture(9 patients, 39%), condyle fractures with ascending ramus fracture(2 patients, 9%), condyle fracture with mandibular body fracture(1 patient, 4%), and condyle fractures with mandibular angle fracture(1 patient, 4%) were followed. 5. In displacement pattern of fractured fragment of mandibular condyle, dispiacement(17 cases, 66%) was most common. Dislocation(5 cases, 19%) and deviation (4 cases, 15%) were next in order. 6. During the observation period of fractured condyles, remodeling patterns of fracture sites related with articular fossa were observed with usual condylar shape in 23 cases and with prominently different shape in 3 cases.

Introduction: Maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) is essential before surgery under general anesthesia in maxillofacial trauma patients. MMF is used basically to reconstruct the occlusion and occlusal stability to recover the facial shape and oral functions. The arch bar and wire is a traditional method for MMF, but it can not only bring pressure to the periodontal ligaments and teeth but also cause a penetrating injury to the surgeons. Materials and Methods: In this study, 198 patients with an open reduction using a manual reduction without MMF from September 2005 to May 2010 in Dankook University Dental Hospital were subjected to a follow-up evaluation during the postoperative 4 months periods. This study evaluated the incidence of complications according to the condition of the patient (gender, age), the state of bony union of the fracture sites and a numeric rating scale evaluation for postoperative pain scoring. Results: 1. The complications were classified into major and minor according to the seriousness, and the major complication rate was as low as 2.02%. Only 2 cases of re-operations (1.01%) were encountered. In the classification according to the fracture line, plate fracture was observed in both cases of mandibular symphysis fracture, and angle fractures and loosening of two screws were noted in the case of mandibular angle fracture. 2. The complication rate was similar regardless of gender and age. 3. The degree of bony union was satisfactory, and the complication rate was reduced as the bony union improved. 4. More patients complained of pain as the operation time was increased. Conclusion: The use of MMF is not always necessary if a skilled assistant is provided to help manually reduce the fracture site. Compared to other studies of mandibular fracture surgery using MMF, the complication rate was similar using only manual reduction and the patients' discomfort was reduced without MMF.
