Objective: This study aimed to analyze the correlation of horizontal and sagittal planes used in two-dimensional diagnosis with lip canting by using three-dimensional (3D) analysis. Methods: Fifty-two patients (25 men, 27 women; average age: 24 years) undergoing treatment for dentofacial deformity were enrolled. Computed tomography images were acquired, and digital imaging and communication in medicine files were reconstructed into a 3D virtual model wherein horizontal and sagittal craniofacial planes were measured. Subsequently, the correlations of lip canting with these horizontal and sagittal planes were investigated. Results: The mandibular symmetry plane, the occlusal plane, Camper's plane, the mandibular plane, Broadbent's plane, and the nasal axis plane were correlated with the amount of lip canting (Pearson's correlation coefficients: 0.761, 0.648, 0.556, 0.526, 0.438, and 0.406, respectively). Planes associated with the lower part of the face showed the strongest correlations; the strength of the correlations decreased in the midfacial and cranial regions. None of the planes showed statistically significant differences between patients with clinical lip canting (> 3°) and those without prominent lip canting. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that lip canting is strongly correlated with the mandibular symmetry plane, which includes menton deviation. This finding may have clinical implications with regard to the treatment of patients requiring correction of lip canting. Further studies are necessary for evaluating changes in lip canting after orthognathic surgery.
The notion that the axis of the shaft of the articulator must coincide the patient's mandibular transverse axis tells us the importance of locating the axis precisely. When using kinematic axis to transfer a cast to an articulator, the anatomic asymmetry of the contralateral points will result in certain distortion when the axis transferred to an articulator where the mechanical axis produces symmetry. In this study, after locating the true hinge axis point with Denar hinge axis locator, the discrepancies between true hinge axis point and arbitrary hinge axis point that was 13mm anterior from the posterior margin of center of trangus to the outer canthus of eye were measured. And the discrepancies between left and right true hinge axis point in the superoinferior and anteroposterior directions were measured. For this study, 20 dental students who have no missing teeth and no difficulties of mandibular movement were selected. Upper and lower cast of subjects were mounted on Denar Mark II articulator uisng Denar Slidematic face-bow and centric relation record for the measurement of discrepancies between left and right true hinge axis points. The results obtained as follows. 1. The mean distance from the arbitrary hinge axis point to the true hinge axis point was as follows. Right: horizontal distance; 1.99mm, vertical distance; 2.12mm, linear distance; 3.36 mm. Left: horizontal distance; 1.39mm, vertical distance; 2.06mm, linear distance; 2.09mm. Total: horizontal distance; 1.69mm, vertical distance; 2.09mm linear distance; 3.06 mm. 2. The 87.5% of true hinge axis points were within 5mm of the arbitrary hinge axis point. 3. The mean discrepancies between the right and left hinge axis point were 2.92mm in superoinferior direction and 4.74mm in anteroposterior direction. 4. When transferring the axis to the articulator, anatomic asymmetry between right: and left axis point produces in dislocation of cast on the articulator, and undesirable shift in esthetic tooth position will be resulted.

Purpose: In general, orientals including Korean, have a mesocephalic face whereas Caucasians, among the western, have a dolichocephalic face. Unlike the western, in orientals including Korean, prominent malar bones are recognized as stubborn and unattractive appearance. That is why reduction malarplasty is one of the most popular aesthetic surgical procedure in Korea. Many surgical methods to reposition prominent malar bones have been performed by means of a coronal incision or a combined incisions, using both the intraoral and the external incision. Bicoronal approach has advantage such as wide operative field, easy to maintain symmetry and possibility of combining facial lift but has shortcoming, such as external scars, long operative time, and the possibility of facial nerve or artery injury. Intraoral approach has advantages of short operative time, simplicity of procedure and no external scar. But this approach is associated with problems of cheek drooping, limited exposure and difficulty in making symmetry. Methods: During 8 years, we performed a reduction malarplasty without internal fixation through an minimal intraoral incision and dissection in 39 patients. Results: The patients were followed for 46 months, with satisfactory results and no cheek drooping. There was no patient who want to revise the inappropriate operative result such as asymmetry and incomplete correction. Conclusion: We conclude that minimal intraoral incision and dissection could acquire satisfactory result of reduction malarplasty along with prevention of cheek drooping.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the relative muscle activity on the erector spinae, gluteus maximus, and hamstring, using a non-visual feedback bridge exercise and a visual feedback bridge exercise with a tension sensor and clinometer. Methods: Twenty-two healthy subjects participated in this study. The study subjects performed bridge exercises without visual feedback, bridge exercises using a tension sensor, and bridge exercises using an inclinometer in the supine position, and the muscle activity of the left and right erector spinae, gluteus maximus, and hamstring muscles was measured while maintaining isometric contraction during the bridge movement. Muscle activity was measured by using surface an electromyography equipment. To standardize the measured action potential of each muscle, the maximum voluntary isometric contraction was measured. The bridge exercise was repeated 3 times for 5s each. Using repeated analysis of variance, we compared the significant difference in EMG activity for each muscle between the three experiments, and all statistical processing was performed using SPSS version 26. The statistical significance level was set at α = 0.05. Results: During bridging exercises, the asymmetry of the muscle activity of the erector spinae and gluteus maximus during visual feedback guiding was lower than that during no visual feedback. However, there was no significant difference. Moreover, the asymmetry of the muscle activity of the hamstring muscles was significantly lower during tension sensor visual feedback than that during no visual feedback (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that bridge exercise with visual feedback using a tension sensor and an inclinometer is effective in inducing symmetrical movement. When it is necessary to symmetrically adjust the weight load of both feet during the bridge exercise, it is effective to apply visual feedback using a tension sensor.

We propose a novel ultra-short asymmetric vertical directional coupler switch (VDCS) with high extinction ratios larger than 30㏈ composed of switching operation induced section (SOIS), extinction ratio adjusted section (ERAS), and extinction ratio enhanced section (ERES). In this VDCSs, switching operation is achieved by changing the refractive index of one core in SOIS. The improvement of extinction ratios larger than 30㏈ for both cross and bar states is achieved by controlling the asymmetry of refractive indices between both cores in ERES. After propagating through ERAS with symmetry in the structure, different extinction ratios between cross and bar states at the end of SOIS are changed to the same value. For this reason, the optimum asymmetry of the refractive indices of cores to have the maximum extinction ratios and the lengths of ERES are the same for cross and bar states. Design guidelines to achieve high extinction ratios with large tolerances are presented.
The resonant frequency of dielectric rod resonator can be calculated very accurately by means of the concept of electric and magnetic walls from the symmetry. But in a real situation, when the supporter is placed in the cavity, asymmetry appears due to the supporter and its dielectric constant. Then we need research into the resonance characteristic of asymmetric dielectric resonator. In this paper, for the dielectric rod resonator which is placed in the asymmetric position in the conducting cavity, the equation for resonance characteristic was derived and the resonant frequency was calculated with the eigenfunction expansion method. We found that the calculated resonant frequency is very accurate when it was compared with the experimental result and that asymmetry affects the resonant frequency more in TM mode than in TE or in hybrid mode.

This thesis attempts to investigate and analyse the architectural characteristics of catholic churches in Gangwon province built in the 1950s. Catholic churches built at that time in Korea had many similarities basically since they were supported by UN forces after the Korean War and were established by priests connected to the Missionary Society of St. Columban. The results of study are as follows. In location, Except one catholic church, the catholic churches preferred low and gentle hill. In layout axis, catholic churches at Youngseo area preferred the north-south layout axis, whereas those at Youngdong favor the east-west layout axis. In approach, most of catholic churches around the Youngseo and Youngdong areas preferred entering the front entrance with a bell tower, whereas three of them at Youngdong did entering the front entrance with a bell tower around the rear corner. In floor plan, catholic churches at Youngseo preferred symmetry, whereas those at Youngdong preferred asymmetry. And every floor plan of catholic churches is rectangular type with transepts except one semicircular type. In apse shape, catholic churches in the Youngseo area preferred non-extruded types like a straight wall, whereas those in Youngdong have extruded types. Every catholic churches have no crypt under ground except one at Gangreung. Except one at Sokcho, every catholic church in this study has choir space in half story.

The etching technology of the high aspect ratio contact(HARC) is necessary at the critical contact processes of semiconductor devices. Etching the $SiO_{2}$ contact hole with the sub-micron design rule in manufacturing VLSI devices, the unexpected phenomenon of 'profile tilting' or 'bottom distortion' is often observed. This makes a short circuit between neighboring contact holes, which causes to drop seriously the device yield. As the aspect ratio of contact holes increases, the high C/F ratio gases, $C_{4}F_{6}$, $C_{4}F_{8}$ and $C_{5}F_{8}$, become widely used in order to minimize the mask layer loss during the etching process. These gases provide abundant fluorocarbon polymer as well as high selectivity to the mask layer, and the polymer with high sticking yield accumulates at the top-wall of the contact hole. During the etch process, many electrons are accumulated around the asymmetric hole mouth to distort the electric field, and this distorts the ion trajectory arriving at the hole bottom. These ions with the distorted trajectory induce the deformation of the hole bottom, which is called 'profile tilting' or 'bottom distortion'. To prevent this phenomenon, three methods are suggested here. 1) Using lower C/F ratio gases, $CF_{4}$ or $C_{3}F_{8}$, the amount of the Polymer at the hole mouth is reduced to minimize the asymmetry of the hole top. 2) The number of the neighboring holes with equal distance is maximized to get the more symmetry of the oxygen distribution around the hole. 3) The dual frequency plasma source is used to release the excessive charge build-up at the hole mouth. From the suggested methods, we have obtained the nearly circular hole bottom, which Implies that the ion trajectory Incident on the hole bottom is symmetry.

The aims of this study were to evaluate the joint coordination between hip and knee joints in the transfemoral amputees, and its symmetry between sound and prosthetic limbs. Seven transfemoral amputees ($46.4{\pm}10.7-year-old$, $174.8{\pm}3.5cm$, $78.3{\pm}9.7kg$) and 7 able bodies ($24.0{\pm}4.5-year-old$, $174.5{\pm}5.9cm$, $66.9{\pm}9.4Kg$) participated in this study. They walked at a self-selected walking speed across a 10m level ground. Simultaneously angle and angular velocity in the hip and knee joint were measured by motion analysis system. Then continuos relative phase(CRP), standard deviations of CRP (CRP_SD) and symmetry index(SI) were calculated. In able bodies, there were no differences of the parameters between left and right limb(all p>0.05). However, significant differences between sound and prosthetic limb in most of the parameters, except for CRP for stance phase were shown (all p<0.05). There were differences in all SI between transfemoral amputees and able bodies (p<0.05). In conclusion, joint coordination was altered in transfemoral amputee during level walking and shown in interlimb asymmetry.
