This study aims to observe the features of Korean adjectives composed with symbolic base impling human character. Korean adjectives composed with symbolic base shows more delicate nuances than ordinary adjectives. For observing the feature of them we analyzed the 6000 symbolic words in 'Stanadard Korean Dictionary'. As a result,the symbolic base of adjectives is divided into the one that maintain the basic meaning of symbolic words and the other that do not maintain basic meaning of symbolic words. The base that maintain the basic meaning of symbolic words is divided into the one that has meaning of character and the other that do not has meaning of character. The base that do not maintain the basic meaning of symbolic words is divided into the one that can relate with '-hada' and the other that cannot relates with '-hada'. This study remains the problem in future to examine common points of symbolic base.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to the propensity for symbolic consumption and the effects of materialism, reference group, and social stratification on the symbolic consumption in clothing. Data were administered to 957 adolescence in middle, high school, and college student living in Seoul, Chonju, Sunchon, Yousu, and Kwangyang from May to June 1997. For analysis of the data, frequencies, percentage, means, standard deviation, factor analysis, 1-test, one-way anomia, duncan's multiple range test, and multiple regression analysis were employed. The results of this study can be summarized asfollows. 1) Symbolic consumption, materialism, and reference group were found to have the significant differences according to social stratification groups by objectivemethod. The higher social stratification is, the higher symbolic consumption, materialism, and reference group were. 2) symbolic consumption were proven to have the significant differences according to materiaiism and reference group. The higher materialism and the influence of referencegroup indicated, the higher symbolic consumption. 3)according to the results of the regression analysis examining the relative influences of variables affecting symbolic consumption in clothing, the relative importance of the variables are in order of : the influences of the reference group, materialism, social stratification, status inconsistency type (occupation-income), and their explanatory power totalled 40.0%.

This study, as part of a study on the visual impact and evaluation of the symbolic sculptures currently installed in counties in Jeollanam-do on the formation of Landscapes by local governments, investigated and analyzed the installation characteristics of symbolic sculptures by local governments. As a result, many local governments have installed local specialties and landmarks as symbolic sculptures, and the installation location is often installed in open spaces and in the center of roundabouts. It was investigated that the use of color or the color of the material as it is was preferred. It was found that more symbolic sculptures installed on the roadside were installed in the center of the roundabout or along the side of the street than installation at the gateway. It is considered that it is more effective to recognize the symbolism of the area to the tourists through the installation of the symbolic sculpture at the entrance of the area, the center of the roundabout, or the side of the road rather than the gate, because the size of the symbol is bigger in order to recognize the symbolism of the area due to the width of the large road when installing the symbolic sculpture at the gateway, It is considered.

The objective of this study is to consider the uniform as visual communication, and analyze the expression of symbol shown on the uniform design by the pattern by applying the visual symbol in the communication and operation of the meaning. Also, it is to construct the systematic modeling method of the expression of design symbol by the pattern of uniform in th e various fields. This study is to analyze the symbolic expression method of the uniform design by the pattern by suggesting the symbolic expression method as a frame through the visual symbolic approach of the uniform design and the analysis of semantic symbol according to that. As a result, there arose simplification and emphasis and a method of symbolic expression with the national flag, a conceptual factor characteristically in the sports uniform design. The characteristics of symbolic expression of uniform design were mainly used in the symbolic expression with the customary code and symbol. Also, the uniform in the enterprises were widely used in the expression of uniform with the suggestion and code by the color. As for the characteristics of symbolic expression shown on the event uniform design, the method of symbolic expression by the pattern of uniform was grasped differently asa result of symbolic expression through the image. The method of symbolic expression suggested on this study could be used on a basis of uniform design in the future. Accordingly, this study has a meaning of suggesting the methodology of uniform design that would be a parameter.

This paper presents the design of a layout processing system that performs circuit and symbolic extraction from hierarchical designs containing arbitrarily shaped layout. The system is flexible enough to deal with various technologies, MOS or bipolar, by providing extraction rules in the form of technology files. In this paper, new efficient algorithms for trapezoidal decomposition of polygon and symbolic path extraction using trapezoidal template are proposed for symbolic extraction. Circuit and symbolic extractor is developed as an integrated design environment of SOLID system.

In multibody dynamic analysis, one of the most important problems is to reduce computation times for real time simulation. In this paper, a symbolic computation method is implemented and tested for each dynamic analysis step. Applying symbolic formulations to the vehicle dynamics program AutoDyn7, the effectiveness of the symbolic computation method is verified.

This paper presents a symbolic method for solving a boundary value problem with inhomogeneous Stieltjes boundary conditions over integro-differential algebras. The proposed symbolic method includes computing the Green's operator as well as the Green's function of the given problem. Examples are presented to illustrate the proposed symbolic method.

Nowadays we are considering and analyzing not only classical data expressed by points in the p-dimensional Euclidean space but also new types of data such as signals, functions, images, and shapes, etc. Symbolic data also can be considered as one of those new types of data. Symbolic data can have various formats such as intervals, histograms, lists, tables, distributions, models, and the like. Up to date, symbolic data studies have mainly focused on individual formats of symbolic data. In this study, it is extended into datasets with both histogram and multimodal-valued data and a divisive clustering method for the mixed feature-type symbolic data is introduced and it is applied to the analysis of industrial accident data.

The purpose of this study is to find out the characteristics of landscape details in representing symbolic images in memorials on the themes of war, tragedy, and the democratization movement. In considering the characteristics of memorial landscapes, the researcher divided the characteristics of landscape details into 3 analysis categories. They are the symbolic application of landscape elements, the embodiment of landscape details, and the organization of landscape details to represent symbolic images, for example, memory, mourning, reflection, healing, glory, and identity. Among details in 24 memorials designed in or after 1970. 133 symbolic details were selected including 64 items in Korea. The analysis revealed that among 30 elements used by designers for memorialization, walls, ponds, sculptures were used more often than other elements in representing the meaning of mourning, reflection, and healing that are the basic function of memorial. In regard to detail form, the designers used basic shapes like circles, squares and rectangles, horizontal and vertical lines to heighten the symbolic effect of shapes in confined form. Stone and water utilized from nature were also used as main materials because of their materiality meaning of death, eternity, life, and healing. The techniques of using lighting, fire, and sound were introduced to make details more effective. Details were organized in harmony and repetition to represent the flew of time and space in symbolic images. The study identified the following characteristics of memorial landscapes in Korea that were different from other country first, in designing memorials, most designers in Korea have been more focused on the organization of space than the details in memorials, and so, they have been neglecting to deliver symbolic image through detail design, while depending mainly on the introduction of art works. Lastly, because they introduced traditional elements which have little relation with the symbolic image needed, there have been many details which inaccurately represent symbolic meanings.

Spatial information services in indoor space are an im portant application area of GIS as in outdoor space. Unlike in outdoor space, a position in indoor space is specified by a symbolic code such as room number, rather than coordinate. Therefore tracking in indoor space is no longer a prediction of coordinates but a symbolic estimation on the current position of a moving object. In this paper, we propose a framework for tracking moving objects in indoor symbolic space with RFID sensors. First, we introduce the concepts of indoor symbolic space and tracking in indoor symbolic space, and define the accessibility graph for trackable indoor symbolic space. Second, we propose a deployment method of RFID readers and a construction algorithm of accessibility graph for trackable indoor symbolic space. Third, a tracking method is proposed for moving objects in symbolic indoor space with RFID sensors. Finally, we present an implementation exmaple and the result of experiment with real data to validate the proposed method.
