This paper presents analysis of losses of switching device for full bridge inverter connected to grid. The losses are a dominant factor that judges efficiency of the system. The losses of switching device are divided to switching loss and conduction loss. They are can be estimated by analyzing periodic switching waveforms. The switching loss is generated at the point that turn-on and off. And the conduction loss is generated while the switch is on condition. The estimated losses of switch are compared to simulation result in this paper.
This paper presents a novel prototype of tile three-phase bridge power block module type a auxiliary resonant AC link snubber circuit, which is effectively used for the three-phase voltage source type sinewave soft switching PWM inverter using IGBTs. Its operating principle Is described for current source load model, along with its practical design approach based on the simulation data. The performance evaluation of the three-phase voltage source type snewave soft switching PWM inverter incorporating a single three-phase bridge mo여le of active auxiliary resonant AC link snubber treated here Is illustrated, which is concerned with power duality efficiency power loss analysis. This inverter is discussed as compared with those of tile three-phase voltage source type sinewave hard switching PWM inverter. The power loss analysis of this soft switching PWM Inverter using IGBT power modules is evaluated on the basis of the measured v-i characteristics and switching power losses of IGBT, and antiparaliel diodes. The practical effectiveness of this inverter is proven by the power loss analysis for distributed power supply.
${\bullet}$ Silicon Carbide (SiC) had excellent material properties as the base material for next generation of power semiconductor. In developing SiC MOSFET, gate oxide reliability issues had to be first overcome before commercial application. Besides, a high and stable gate-source voltage threshold $V_{GS(th)}$ is also an important parameter for operation robustness. SiC MOSFET with such characteristics can directly use existing high-speed IGBT gate driver IC's. ${\bullet}$ The linear voltage drop characteristics of SiC MOSFET will bring lower conduction loss averaged over full AC cycle compared to similarly rate IGBT. Lower switching loss enable higher switching frequency. Using package with auxiliary source terminal for gate driving will further reduce switching losses. Dynamic characteristics can fully controlled by simple gate resistors. ${\bullet}$ The low switching losses characteristics of SiC MOSFET can substantially reduce power losses in high switching frequency operation. Significant power loss reduction is also possible even at low switching frequency and low switching speed. in T-type 3-level topology, SiC MOSFET solution enable three times higher switching freqeuncy at same efficiency.

In this paper, we proposed a soft-switched synchronous buck converter, which can perform charging the battery. The proposed converter has low switching loss even at high frequency operation due to its soft switching characteristics. The converter operates in synchronous mode to minimize conduction loss, resulting in small conduction loss, also. In this reason, the efficiency of the converter can be greatly improved even in high frequency. The size and weight of the converter can be reduced by high frequency operation of the converter. In this paper, we designed a battery charger with a switching frequency of 100 kHz. The designed converter also simulated to prove the converter's characteristics of synchronous operation as well as soft switching operation. The simulation shows that the proposed converter always meets the soft switching conditions of turning on and off switching in the zero voltage and zero current states. Therefore, simulation results have confirmed that the proposed battery charger had soft switching characteristics. The simulation results for transient response to charge current for the designed converter show that the converter responds to charge current commands quickly within 0.05 ms.
In this paper, a voltage-based model predictive control (MPC) scheme for a modular multilevel converter is used to reduce switching loss. The proposed method calculates an offset voltage that clamps the switching operation of submodules in which the current greatly flows at every sampling period by using the reference phase voltage and the reference phase current. To use the offset voltage, the proposed method converts the current-based MPC to the voltage-based MPC. The proposed voltage-based MPC then generates a new reference pole voltage that clamps the switching of submodules by applying the calculated offset voltage to the phase voltage. Therefore, the proposed method can reduce the switching loss by stopping the switching operation of submodules in which the current greatly flows. The switching loss reduction effect of the proposed method is verified by comparing its loss data with those of the conventional MPC method.
When Photovoltaic inverter is connected to grid and used as PVPCS (Photovoltaic Power Conditioning System), 120 Hz AC ripple occurs at the dc-link capacitor voltage. This AC ripple reduces the efficiency of PVPCS and shortens the lifetime of the capacitor. In this paper, we design a notch filter to remove AC ripple. As a result, the AC voltage ripple was removed from the dc link and the THD of the PVPCS output current with the notch filter was lowered. This notch filter is determined by the damping coefficient, the bandwidth coefficient, and the switching frequency. Among these, the switching frequency determines the switching loss and the size of the LC filter, and the PVPCS with the high switching frequency has a greater efficiency loss due to the switching loss than the efficiency improvement by the notch filter. Therefore, it is important to set the optimum switching frequency in the PVPCS with the notch filter applied. In this paper, THD and switching loss of PVPCS output current with notch filter are calculated through simulation, and cost function to calculate optimum switching frequency through data is proposed.
In conventional zero-current-switching(ZCS) PWM converters, the switching loss, stress and noise can't be minimized because they adopt auxiliary switches operated in hard-switching. In this paper, new ZCS-PWM converters of which auxiliary switches always operate with soft-switching are proposed. Therefore, the proposed ZCS-PWM converters are most suitable for systems requiring high-power density. The characteristics of these converters are verified by results of simulation.
In this paper, we propose a theoretical method to systematically analyze the power conversion efficiency of a single-phase PFC switching rectifier. Boost-type PFC was organized in order of highest correlation with load current using steady-state analysis results and introduced the concept of loss factor. The loss factors for each major element are summarized and presented in a table. This paper makes it easier to understand the internal loss and power conversion efficiency of the rectifier for loss factors. Lastly, to confirm the validity of the efficiency analysis results reflecting the loss factors, loss and efficiency analysis of the 2.5kW PFC rectifier was performed. The results were compared with data from a 2.5kW PFC circuit for evaluation. As a result, the usefulness of power conversion efficiency analysis reflecting the loss factors proposed in this paper was confirmed.
In this paper, soft switching high power factor buck converter is proposed. This converter is composed of diode rectifier, a input capacitor can be small enough to filter input capacitor can be small enough to filter input current, buck converter with loss less snubber circuit. Converter is operated in discontinous conduction mode, turn of of the switching device is a zero current switching(ZCS) and high power factor input is obtained. In addition, zero voltage switching(ZVS) at turn of is achieved and switching loss is reduced using loss less snubber circuit. The capacitor used in the snubber circuit raised output voltage. Therefore, proposed converter has higher output voltage and higher efficiency than conventional buck type converter at same duty factor in discontious conduction mode operation.
In this paepr, we present a soft switching PWM inverter as reducing switching loss and stress at high power application. The PWM inverter is designed by space voltage about 2$\sqrt{3}$ times (15%) than conventional SPWM method. To reduce switching loss and stress. The DC link requires a capacitor, an inductor and two additional switches. Therefore proposed inverter performs trun PWM operation under the soft switching condition. As a result of soft switching we can reduce switching loss and ensure stability of switching devices. For approach to real time, control system is realized by 8 bit single-chip microprocessor. Therefore, we can construct system is with simplified volumn and structure by eliminating carrier wave and referrence wave generator of conventional SPWM method.
