Crane payloads frequently swing with large amplitude motion that degrades safety and throughput. Open-loop methods have addressed this problem, but are not effective for disturbances. Closed-loop methods have also been used, but generally require the speed of the driving motors to be precisely controlled. This paper develops a feedback control method for controlling motors to cancel the measured payload oscillations by intelligently timing the ensuing on and off motor commands. The effectiveness of the oscillation suppression scheme is experimentally verified on an industrial bridge crane.
This study compared the Character Studio of 3ds Max and OpenGL to find an adequate modeling method of character animation to be used in motion analysis in the area of motor mechanics. The subject was one male golfer. We obtained the positional coordinates of marks needed by photographing the subject's golf swing motions. Because the method based on the Character Studio used meticulously designed character meshes, it enabled high.level animation but it took a long time in applying physique and demanded the repeated adjustment of each motion data. With the method based on OpenGL, a character completed once could be usable to almost every testee and desired program control was available, but because each character had to be created by making a computer program, it was hard to make characters delicately. Because the method using the Character Studio is actively studied not only in motor mechanics but also in many research areas, it is expected to be more usable in the near future. On the contrary, the method based on OpenGL is easily applicable and allows the convenient use of other mechanical data.
This paper proposes intelligent control of a virtual walking machine that can generate infinite floor for various surfaces and can provide proprioceptive feedback of walking to a user. This machine allows users to participate in a life-like walking experience in virtual environments with various terrains. The controller of the machine is implemented hierarchically, at low-level for robust actuator control, at mid-level fur platform control to compensate the external forces by foot contact, and at high-level control for generating walking trajectory. The high level controller is suggested to generate continuous walking on an infinite floor for various terrains. For the high level control, each independent platform follows a man foot during the swing phase, while the other platform moves back during single stance phase. During double limb support, two platforms manipulate neutral positions to compensate the offset errors generated by velocity changes. This control can, therefore, satisfy natural walking conditions in any direction. Transition phase between the swing and the stance phases is detected by using simple switch sensor system, while human foot motions are sensed by careful calibration with a magnetic motion tracker attached to the shoe. Experimental results of walking simulations at level ground, slope, and stairs, show that with the proposed machine, a general person can walk naturally on various terrains with safety and without any considerable disturbances. This interface can be applied to various areas such as VR navigations, rehabilitation, and gait analysis.
TDC(Time Delay Control) deals with the time-varying system parameters, unknown dynamics and unexpected disturbances using time delay. TDC can be divided into two separate parts: an auxiliary controller and a servo controller. The two controllers can be designed independently. The auxiliary controller is used to reduce sensitivity to parameter variations, nonlinear effects, and other disturbances. The servo controller is to reduce the error between the desired command and output. We propose the model-following time delay controller with modified error feedback controller. This was applied to follow the desired reference model for the uncertain time-varying overhead crane. The model generates the damped-out swinging motion trajectory to suppress the swinging motion caused by the acceleration and the deceleration of crane transportation. The control performance was evaluated through simulations. The theoretical results indicate that this control method shows excellent performance to an overhead crane with the uncertain time-varying parameters.

The crane operation used fur transporting heavy loads causes a swinging motion with the loads due to the crane\`s acceleration and deceleration. This sway causes the suspension ropes to leave their grooves and can cause serious damage. Ideally, the purpose of a crane system is to transport loads to a goal position as soon as possible without any oscillation of the rope. Currently, cranes are generally operated based on expert knowledge alone, accordingly, the development of a satisfactory control method that can efficiently suppress object sway during transport is essential. The dynamic behavior of a crane shows nonlinear characteristics. When the length of the rope is changed, a crane becomes a time-varying system thus the design of an anti-sway controller is very difficult. In this paper, a nonlinear dynamic model is derived for an industrial overhead crane whose girder, trolley, and hoister move simultaneously. Furthermore, a fuzzy logic controller, based on expert experiments during acceleration, constant velocity, deceleration, and stop position periods is proposed to suppress the swing motion and control the position of the crane. Computer simulation is then used to test the performance of the fuzzy controller with the nonlinear crane model.
In this paper, we present a design of optimal 2-DOF PID controller for control of gantry crane which has to control swing motion and trolley position. For tuning the parameter of 2-DOF PID controller, we used evolution strategy(ES). During operate the crane system in yard, the goal is transporting the load to a goal position as quick as possible without rope oscillation. The crane is generally operated by an expert operator, but recently an automatic control system with high speed and rapid transportation is required. However, we developed an optimal controller which has to control the crane system with disturbance.
PID controller has been used very widely in the industrial applications. But it is difficult tune the PID gains. In this paper, we present a design of optimal 2-DOF PID controller for control of container crane which has to control swing motion and trolley position. For tuning of the 2-DOF PID control gains, we used hybrid evolution program(EP). During operate the crane system in yard, the goal is transporting the load to a goal position as quick as possible without rope oscillation. The crane is generally operated by an expert operator, but recently an automatic control system with high accuracy and rapid transportation is required. However, we developed an optimal controller which has to control the crane system with disturbance.

The computer simulations show that the proposed method has better performances than the other method.

The amount of container freight continuously has been increased. and the low efficiency of container crane causes jamming frequently in transportation and cargo handling at port. The conventional control techniques based on a mathematical model are not well suited for dealing with ill-defined and uncertain systems. Recently. Fuzzy control has been successfully applied to a wide variety of practical problems as robots. automatic train operation system. etc. In this paper. a fuzzy controller for container crane is proposed to accomplish a design of improved control system for minimizing the swing motion at destination. In this scheme a mathematical model for the system is obtained in state space form. Finally. to exhibit the tracking performance and robustness of the proposed controller. computer simulations were carried out with various references, parameter variations and disturbances.
This hybrid position/force control for the dynamic walking of the biped robot is performed in this paper. After the biped robot was modeled with 14 degrees of freedom of the multibody dynamics, the equations of motion are constructed using velocity transformation technique. Then the inverse dynamic analysis is performed for determining the driving torques and the ground reaction forces. From this analysis, obtains the maximum ground contact force at the moment of contacting which act on the rear of the sole of swing leg and the distribution curve of the ground reaction. Because these maximum force and distribution type acts an important role to the stability of the whole dynamic walking, they are reduced and distributed smoothly by means of the trajectory of the modified ground reaction force. This new trajectory is used to the reference input for more stable dynamic walking of the whole walking region.
