A Line Density algorithm was developed to quantify the sea surface temperature distribution using NOAA Sea Surface Temperature(SST) data and Geographic Information Systems(GIS), In addition, a GIS based automation model was designed to extract the Line Density Indices were determined by applying K-means Cluster. SST data in terms of March to May obtained on the coastal area of the Uljin from 2001 to 2004 in spring were used to make two data sets of average sea water temperature map in terms of year as well as month. From the result it was formed that water temperature gradient in April was the strongest among the other months, In particular very strog formation of oceanic front as well as temperature gradients were observed in front of the coastal area around Wonduk and Jukbyeon countries. Because those coastal area is a confront zone of two cold and a warm. It is expected that the development of a Line Density Algorithm would contribute to quantify of the SST for the research of Sea Surface Front(SSF) related to marine life management and the sea environmental conservation.
The spatial distribution of sea water temperature variation pattern in the South-eastern coastal region of Korea was studied by empirical orthogonal function (E. O. F) analysis in several depths from surface to 300m using the monthly mean water temperature averaged for 23 years, water mass analysis by T. S diagram and sectional diagram of water temperature. Typical type of water temperature variation in this area can be divided into surface (0m-50m), subsurface (100m-150m) and intermediate (200m-300m) layer. The first mode value of water temperature change on the surface layer showed $99\%$ of total variation, and decreased with the increase of the depth. It is deduced to be in the range of $60-70\%$ on the 300m layer. The representative type of water temperature fluctuation by the first mode in each layer is as follows. Water temperature change in the surface layer showed a seasonal variation. In the subsurface layer, it is governed by the interaction of the Tsushima Warm Current water with the cold water and by the heat transfer process from the upper layer. In the intermediate layer, water temperature variation seems to be governed by the advection of the bottom cold water.

Spatial and temporal information on near-surface air temperature is important for understanding global warming and climate change. In this study, the estimation algorithm of near-surface air temperature in Korea was developed by using spatial homogeneous surface information obtained from satellite remote sensing observations. Based on LST(Land Surface Temperature), NDWI(Normalized Difference Water Index) and NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) as independent variables, the multiple regression model was proposed for the estimation of near-surface air temperature. The different regression constants and coefficients for warm and cold seasons were calculated for considering regional climate change in Korea. The near-surface air temperature values estimated from the multiple regression algorithm showed reasonable performance for both warm and cold seasons with respect to observed values (approximately $3^{\circ}C$ root mean-square error and nearly zero mean bias). Thus;the proposed algorithm using remotely sensed surface observations and the approach based on the classified warm and cold seasons may be useful for assessment of regional climate temperature in Korea.
This research focuses on analysis of a interaction fracture of various glasses due to contact of water sprayed curtain on hot glass surface with high temperature produced from convective heat source near glass wall. A large scaled experimental test was done in order to find the range of the glass surface temperature to be able to cause the breakage of the glasses when water droplets reach on the hot surface. This paper shows the allowable temperature of the glass surface for prevention of the cooling down breakage before water curtain droplets contact the surface. Allowable Temperature if $250^{\circ}C$ for the tempered glass but general glass is very relatively low. Therefore if the water curtain spray system was adequately activated by a thermal detector installed below ceiling adjacent glass wall with water curtain nozzle system, all hot glass would not break out by cooling water droplet's contact on the hot surface due to convective heat released by adjacent fire source near the glass wall.
Surface energy is an important factor in determining the performance of application components in terms of preventing adhesion failure between thin films. In this regard, numerous attempts have been made to acquire the desired surface energy through chemical treatment or by using micro/nanostructures. However, such approaches are expected to provide extreme values of surface energy, which may not be suitable in achieving the enhanced performance of applications. In this study, we propose a method to control surface energy by using bilayer metallic film heterostructures. We measure the water contact angle of incompatible (Ni/Ag) and compatible (Zn/Ag) metal pairs under several experimental factors, including thickness, time, and temperature. Furthermore, we conduct Auger electron spectroscopy measurements to investigate the atomic concentration with respect to depth after the change in the water contact angle. The experimental results reveal that three parameters, namely, compatibility, film thickness, and environmental temperature, are major factors in controlling the water contact angle. Thus, we experimentally demonstrate that controlling these three parameters can provide the approximate desired water contact angle. This result is expected to aid in the performance enhancement of a wide range of application components, where control of surface energy is required.
An attempt to derive the surface temperature from the Korea Multi-purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT)-3A mid-wave infrared (MWIR) data acquired over the southern California on Nov. 14, 2015 has been made using the MODerate resolution atmospheric TRANsmission (MODTRAN) radiative transfer model. Since after the successful launch on March 25, 2015, the KOMPSAT-3A spacecraft and its two payload instruments - the high-resolution multispectral optical sensor and the scanner infrared imaging system (SIIS) - continue to operate properly. SIIS uses the MWIR spectral band of 3.3-5.2 ㎛ for data acquisition. As input data for the realistic simulation of the KOMPSAT-3A SIIS imaging conditions in the MODTRAN model, we used the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) atmospheric profiles, the KOMPSAT-3Asensor response function, the solar and line-of-sight geometry, and the University of Wisconsin emissivity database. The land cover type of the study area includes water, sand, and agricultural (vegetated) land located in the southern California. Results of surface temperature showed the reasonable geographical pattern over water, sand, and agricultural land. It is however worthwhile to note that the surface temperature pattern does not resemble the top-of-atmosphere (TOA) radiance counterpart. This is because MWIR TOA radiances consist of both shortwave (0.2-5 ㎛) and longwave (5-50 ㎛) components and the surface temperature depends solely upon the surface emitted radiance of longwave components. We found in our case that the shortwave surface reflection primarily causes the difference of geographical pattern between surface temperature and TOA radiance. Validation of the surface temperature for this study is practically difficult to perform due to the lack of ground truth data. We therefore made simple comparisons with two datasets over Salton Sea: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) field data and Salton Sea data. The current estimate differs with these datasets by 2.2 K and 1.4 K, respectively, though it seems not possible to quantify factors causing such differences.

The objectives of this study are to analyze the control variables according to condensation occurrence, to find the range in floor surface temperature and frequency of condensation, and to evaluate the control methods through simulations when the radiant heating system is used for cooling. Through the simulation analysis the control methods such as on/off control, variable flow control and outdoor reset with indoor temperature feedback control are evaluated and compared. The results show that the lowest floor surface temperature is around $23^{\circ}C$, the surface condensation can be prevented by controlling indoor humidity within 20g/kg(DA0, and that outdoor reset with indoor temperature feedback control is more appropriate than on/off control and variable flow control with regard to prevention of the condensation and thermal comfort.
Hydrophobic characteristics of high temperature metal surface were investigated by high-speed visualization of water droplet impact. An aluminum plate was used as the sample plate and the initial diameter of a water droplet was 2 mm. Transient behavior of a single droplet impinging on the surface with and without heating was captured by using a high speed camera running at 4,000 frames per second. The Leidenfrost phenomenon was demonstrated for the case of $300^{\circ}C$ surface temperature, however there was no rebounding of droplet on the cold plate due to hydrophilic nature. The experimental results show that the shape evolution of a droplet impinging on the surface varies with the Weber number, i.e. the ratio of impact inertia to capillary force. The overall water-repellent characteristics of the heated surface was very similar to that of the super hydrophobic surfaces.

Single-phase convection and partial nucleate boiling in free-surface and submerged jet impingements of subcooled water ejected through a 2-mm-diameter circular pipe nozzle were investigated by local measurements. Effects of jet velocity and nozzle-to-imping-ing surface distance as well as heat flux on distributions of wall temperature and heat transfer coefficients were considered. Incipience of boiling began from far downstream in contrast with the cases of the planar water jets of high Reynolds numbers. Heat flux increase and velocity decrease reduced the temperature difference between stagnation and far downstream regions with the increasing influence of boiling in partial boiling regime. The chance in nozzle-to-impinging surface distance from H/d=1 to 12 had a significant effect on heat transfer around the stagnation point of the submerged jet, but not for the free-surface jet. The submerged jet provided the lower cooling performance than the free-surface jet due to the entrainment of the pool fluid of which temperature increased.
This paper described about the system which can be inspect work roll surface for deciding a milling schedule and roll changing at hot strip mill in POSCO. Developed system consists of CCD camera, Xenon lamp with fiber bundle and mechanical control part. The water probe build up water pole between head of probe and roll surface to acquisite a good image from a work roll surface under the bad environment with steam, cooling water and high temperature. This system is possible to monitor a work roll surface of about 12${\times}$9mm. We have shown the validation of the developed system which can monitor the evolution of degradation on work roll surface.
