The recent emphasis on ecological urban development has led to the need to maintain a hydrologic cycle in urban areas. As such, this study proposes decentralized rainwater management, a concept of onsite rainwater management that involves the utilization, infiltration, detention, and retention of rainwater. The main objective of this research is to estimate the proportion of decentralized rainwater management that is needed. From the research that was conducted in this study, it was found that the total runoff quantity increases by 10-20% after district lands are developed, when the probable rate of precipitation every 10 years is within this range. Thus, the runoff rate can be reduced by 10~20% of the total runoff quantity through decentralization. On the other hand, in the scale of housing complex development, the total runoff quantity increases by as much as 10~40% due to the changes in the rate of the impervious surface area. If 10-40% of the total runoff quantity was processed through decentralized rainwater management, the rate of infiltration, detention, retention, and runoff in precipitation prior to development could be recovered.
From the continuous long-term rainfall-runoff standpoint, the urbanization within a watershed causes land use change due to the increase in impervious areas, the addition of manmade structures, and the changes in river environment. Therefore, rainfall-runoff characteristics changes drastically after the urbanization. Due to these reasons, there exists the demand for rainfall-runoff simulation model that can quantitatively evaluate the components of hydrologic cycle including surface runoff, river flow, and groundwater by considering urban watershed characteristics as well as natural runoff characteristics. In this study, continuous long-term rainfall-runoff simulation model SWAT-SWMM is developed by coupling semi-distributed continuous long-term rainfall-runoff simulation model SWAT with RUNOFF block of SWMM, which is frequently used in the runoff analysis of urban areas in order to consider urban watershed as well as natural watershed. The coupling of SWAT and SWMM is described with emphasis on the coupling scheme, model limitations, and the schematics of coupled model.

This study was carried out to runoff characteristics in an upland livestock manure compost. Irrigation, runoff and water quality data in the upland were analyzed periodically from May to November in 2011. The observed amount of rainfall, irrigation, runoff for the experimental upland during the investigation period were 1,299.7 mm, 32.0 mm, and 340.7 mm, respectively. The concentrations of T-N in compost and non-compost upland during study period were ranged from 2.09 mg/L to 6.66 mg/L and from 1.99 mg/L to 6.01 mg/L, respectively. which was generally higher than the quality standard of agricultural water (1.0 mg/L). The concentrations of T-P in compost and non-compost upland during study period were ranged from 0.069 mg/L to 0.525 mg/L and from 0.018 mg/L to 0.152 mg/L, respectively. The runoff pollutants loadings of T-N and T-P in compost upland were 10.05 kg/ha and 0.56 kg/ha, respectively. The runoff pollutants loadings of T-N and T-P in non-compost upland were 9.09 kg/ha and 0.26 kg/ha, respectively. The runoff pollutants loadings in T-N and T-P from this study were much lower values than the pollutant loadings of T-N and T-P from the upland published by the others studies. Runoff pollution loadings due to the upland field in order to identify the characteristics of various crops, farming methods and a variety of targets taking into account regional characteristics by conducting continuous monitoring runoff load estimate will be required.
This study was carried out to find out the effect of soil and water storable pits on reducing the surface runoff. 10 pits were digged in each plot of $50m^2$ along contour line. One kind of pits has a size of 30 cm width, 100cm length and 30cm depth, and the other has 30cm width, 100cm length and 20cm depth. 1. The soil and water storable pits have a significant effect on reducing surface runoff. Control plot had surface runoff 2.3-2.6 times more than the plots with pits. 2. There is no significant difference in surface runoff between 30cm depth pit and 20cm depth pit. 3. The soil and water storable pits did not have any effect on coverage, survival and growth of three species. 4. Steep slope had worse results than the other slopes in coverage, growth and fresh weight of experiment species.

Long-Term Hydrologic Impact Assessment (L-THIA) model which is a distributed watershed model was applied to analyze the spatial distribution of surface runoff and nonpoint source pollutant loading from Imha watershed during 2001~2010. L-THIA CN Calibration Tool linked with SCE-UA was developed to calibrate surface runoff automatically. Calibration (2001~2005) and validation (2006~2010) of monthly surface runoff were represented as 'very good' model performance showing 0.91 for calibration and 0.89 for validation as Nash-Sutcliffe (NS) values. Average annual surface runoff from Imha watershed was 218.4 mm and Banbyun subwatershed was much more than other watersheds due to poor hydrologic condition. Average annual nonpoint source pollutant loading from Imha wateshed were 2,295 ton/year for $BOD_5$, 14,752 ton/year for SS, 358 ton/year for T-N, and 79 ton/year for T-P. Amount of pollutant loading and pollutant loading rates from Banbyun watershed were much higher than other watersheds. As results of analysis of loading rate from grid size ($30m{\times}30m$), most of high 10 % of loading rate were generated from upland. Therefore, major hot spot area to manage nonpoint source pollution in Imha watershed is the combination of upland and Banbyun subwatershed. L-THIA model is easy to use and prepare input file and useful tool to manage nonpoint source pollution at screening level.
A numerical model of surface runoff and river flow has been applied to small- and large-size catchment areas in order to investigate the physical characteristics of river flow during flood period. Several refinements are made on the existing model SIRG-RS for the ways of rainfall input through surface runoff, river junction treatment and the computation of river flow on steep slope. For the computation of frictional forces, employed is the power law of friction factor which is a function of Reynolds number and relative roughness height. The empirical equation of friction factor is developed using recent field data as well as laboratory data. The refined model has been applied to small-size catchment area as well as large-size catchment area, and the computation results are found in good agreement with the observations in both cases.
In this study, the LIDMOD3 was developed to design and evaluate low impact development (LIDMOD). In the same fashion, the LIDMOD3 employs a curve number (NRCS-CN) method to estimate the surface runoff, infiltration and event mean concentration as applicable to pollutant loads which are based on a daily time step. In these terms, the LIDMOD3 can consider a hydrologic soil group for each land use type LID-BMP, and the applied removal efficiency of the surface runoff and pollutant loads by virtue of the stored capacity, which was calculated by analyzing the recorded water balance. As a result of Model development, the LIDMOD3 is based on an Excel spread sheet and consists of 8 sheets of information data, including: General information, Annual precipitation, Land use, Drainage area, LID-BMPs, Cals-cap, Parameters, and the Results. In addition, the LIDMOD3 can estimate the annual hydrology and annual pollutant loads including surface runoff and infiltration, the LID efficiency of the estimated surface runoff for a design rainfall event, and an analysis of the peak flow and time to peak using a unit hydrolograph for pre-development, post-development without LID, and as calculated with LID. As a result of the model application as applied to an apartment, the LIDMOD3 can estimate LID-BMPs considering a well spatical distributed hydroloic soil group as realized on land use and with the LID-BMPs. Essentially, the LIDMOD3 is a screen level and simple model which is easy to use because it is an Excel based model, as are most parameters in the database. This system can be expected to be widely used at the LID site to collect data within various programmable model parameters for the processing of a detail LID model simulation.
The effects of low impact development (LID) techniques, such as green roofs and porous pavements, on the runoff and pollutant load from an apartment complex were simulated using the Site Evaluation Tool (SET). The study site was the Olympic Village, a preexisting apartment complex in Seoul, South Korea, which has a high percentage of impervious surfaces (approximately 72% of the total area). Using the SET, the effects of replacing parking lots, sidewalks and driveways (37.5% of the total area) having porous pavements and rooftops (14.5% of the total area) with green roofs were simulated. The simulation results indicated that LID techniques reduced the surface runoff, and peak flow and pollutant load, and increased the evapotranspiration and soil infiltration of precipitation. Per unit area, the green roofs were better than the porous pavements at reducing the surface runoff and pollutant loads, while the porous pavements were better than green roofs at enhancing the infiltration to soil. This study showed that LID methods can be useful for urban stormwater management and that the SET is a useful tool for evaluating the effects of LID on urban hydrology and pollutant loads from various land covers.
A method is suggested for the reappearance of a surface runoff hudorgraph of a river basin by linking the hydrologic response of a catchment represented by the instantaneous unit hydrograph(IUH) with the Horton's empirical gemorphologic laws. The geomorphologic theory of the IUH developed by G. Itrube et al. and the geomorphoclimatic theory of the IUH developed by Bras et al. are used to derive the new hydrologic response function in consideration of geomorphologic parameters and climatic characteristics by applying to Sukekawa's rainfall-runoff model. The derived response function was tested for on some observed hydrographs in a natural watershed and showed promising, and by considering a drainage basin as m(1∼4) identical linear reservoir in series, it was founded that the model(m=2) is most applicable to predict hydrologic response regardless of the size of basins. A modelization algorithm of a basin using Sthahler's ordering scheme of drainage network will give good result in analysis of the surface runoff huydrograph by the method of this study.

Watershed runoff and turbid water dynamics were simulated in the Youngju Dam, being constructed. The runoff flow and suspended solids were simulated and then thermal stratification and turbid water current in the reservoir were predicted by HSPF and CE-QUAL-W2 model, respectively. Considering selective withdrawal, we hypothesized 3 withdrawal types from the dam, i.e. surface layer, middle layer and the lowest layer. The maximum concentration of SS was 400mg/L in reservoir and it was decreased by the withdrawal. The inflowed turbid water fell to 30 NTU after 12 days regardless of the withdrawal types, but the surface layer withdrawal was a better type at turbid water discharge than the others. In current environmental impact assessment(EIA), we concluded that runoff and reservoir water quality predicted by HSPF and CE-QUAL-W2 was desirable, and appropriate parameters were selected by continous monitoring after EIA.
