This study was to select the measurement points of the girdle and the all-in-one. 15 subjects (age 30-40) were chosen by % body fat to represent various physical types. Subjects tried on each garment; a girdle and a all-in-one, in turns. Measurement points in the underwear were selected according to the parts of the human body. The characteristics and the surface area of the each garment were considered carefully when the measurement points were selected. Selected measurement points on the girdle and the all-in-one were chosen from the anterior midsagittal line, the side-seam line, and the posterior midsagittal line. Four points on the girdle and four points on the all-in-one were selected as the measurement points. There was highly significant correlation between % body fat and mean garment pressure. There was no significant relationship between thickness of subcutaneous fat and mean garment pressure by measured parts.
Aspheric optical lenses and mirrors are widely used in recent. It is more difficult to manufacture and measure the aspherical optics compared to conventional spherical ones. The interferometric optical test is common for the measurement of spherical optical surface. But the application of the interferometry to the measurement of aspheric surface is difficult because it needs a precise null corrector and very careful environmental conditions such as keeping constant temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure and vibrations. To enhance productivity of optics manufacturing on-machine measurement and correction has been developed in this study. For practical applications, robustness of the measurement method to environments is more important. For the purpose an optical OMM(On-Machine Measurement) system has been developed using Shack-Hartmann test which has robustness to the environment. The wavefront has been reconstructed from the measured data using the primary aberration polynomial function by least square fitting. The measured result of the developed only system gives the maximum deviation only in 200 nm from the result measured by a commercial Fizeau interferometer Wyko 6000.
When a water jet is injected on the body surface, the pressure and shear stress on the surface are important physical parameters in determining the body surface wash out and physical stimulus. We used the force plate in order to measure the surface average pressure for different nozzle types and distances between a nozzle and a plate. We used the nozzles with a hole dimeter of 1.8, 2.9, 3.2mm, and the shower heads with 10 holes (hole diameter, 1mm) and 20 holes (hole diameter, 1mm). The distances between a nozzle and a plate was 10, 20, 30, 40cm. The results showed that the surface forces were not affected by the distances between a nozzle and a plate. Further numerical studies will be performed to predict wall shear stress based on the measured pressure data.
The greatest suction on the cladding of flat roof low-rise buildings is known to occur beneath the conical vortices that form along the roof edges for cornering winds. In a companion paper, a model of the vortex flow mechanism has been developed which can be used to connect the surface pressure beneath the vortex to adjacent flow conditions. The flow model is experimentally validated in this paper using simultaneous velocity and surface pressure measurement on a 1 : 50 model of the Texas Tech University experimental building in a wind tunnel simulated atmospheric boundary layer. Flow visualization gives further insight into the nature of peak suction events. The flow model is shown to account for the increase in suction towards the roof corner as well as the presence of the highest suction at wind angles of $60^{\circ}$. It includes a parameter describing vortex suction strength, which is shown to be related to the nature of the reattachment, and also suggests how different components of upstream turbulence could influence the surface pressure.
We examine the problem in which porous/viscoelastic compliant thin plates are subject to pressure fluctuations under transitional or turbulent boundary layer. Measurements are presented of the frequency spectra of the near-field pressure and radiated sound by compliant surface. A porous plate consisting of 5mm thick, open-cell foam with fabric covering and a viscoelastic painted plate of 1mm thick over an acoustic board of 4m thick were placed over a rigid surface in an anechoic wind tunnel. Streamwise velocity and wall pressure measurements were shown to highly attenuate the convective wall pressure energy when the convective wavenumber ($k_{ch}$) was 3.0 or more. The sound source localization on the compliant walls is applied to the measurement of radiated sound by using an acoustic mirror system.

The contact pressure in jointed plates was measured by means of an improved ultrasonic technique. In order to get calibration curve, the relationship between contact pressure and ratio of boundary and bottom echo of normal beam probes were obtained for the calibration blocks with various surface roughness. The ratio of boundary and bottom echoes were measured for the upper/under plates locally compressed with uniform pressure, and the distribution of contact pressure was obtaines. The measured pressure has a good agreement with results of FEM analysis. Thus the proposed ultrasonic method in this work is very useful to measure the contact pressure.
This paper proposes an ultrasonic method for measurement of linear and hysteretic interfacial stiffness of contacting surfaces between two steel plates subjected to nominal compression pressure. Interfacial stiffness was evaluated by the reflection and transmission coefficients obtained from three consecutive reflection waves from solid-solid surface using the shear wave. A nonlinear hysteretic spring model was proposed and used to define the quantitative interfacial stiffness of interface with the reflection and transmission coefficients. Acoustic model for 1-D wave propagation across interfaces is developed to formulate the reflection and transmission waves and to determine the linear and nonlinear hysteretic interfacial stiffness. Two identical plates are put together to form a contacting surface and pressed by bolt-fastening to measure interfacial stiffness at different states of contact pressure. It is found from experiment that the linear and hysteretic interfacial stiffness are successfully determined by the reflection and transmission coefficient at the contact surfaces through ultrasonic pulse-echo measurement.
This paper introduces optical methods for in-situ measurement of surface temperature and pressure transient in thermal processes having nanosecond time scales. In the temperature measurement, a p -Si thin film whose refractive index is calibrated as a function of temperature is embedded beneath the sample surface and the photothermal reflectance is monitored for estimating the surface temperature. The pressure transients are measured using the photoacoustic optical deflection method. The experimental technique is used to analyze the nanosecond laser induced vaporization process that is central to numerous engineering and bio-medical applications. Based on the experimental results, discussions are made on the experimental technique and the physical mechanisms of laser-driven explosive vaporization phenomena.
A pressure sensor in pulse measurement system is a core component for precisely measuring the pulse waveform of radial artery. A pulse sensor signal that measures the pulse wave in contact with the skin is affected by the temperature difference between the ambient temperature and skin surface. In this study, we found experimentally that the signal changes of the pressure sensors and a temperature sensor were caused by the temperature of the wrist surface while the pressure sensor was contacted on the skin surface for measuring pulse wave. To observe the signal change of the pulse sensor caused by temperature increase on sensor surface, Peltier device that can be kept at a set temperature was used. As the temperature of Peltier device was kept at $35^{\circ}C$ (the maximum wrist temperature), the device was put on the pulse sensor surface. The temperature and pressure signals were obtained simultaneously from a temperature sensor and six pressure sensors embedded in the pulse sensor. As a result of signal analysis, the sensor pressure was decreased during temperature increase of pulse sensor surface. In addition, the signal difference ratio of pressure and temperature sensors with respect to thickness of cover layer in pulse sensor was increased exponentially. Therefore, the signal of pressure sensor was modified by the compensation equation derived by the temperature sensor signal. We suggested that the thickness of cover layer in pulse sensor should be designed considering the skin surface temperature.
