마이크로 포커스 X-ray CT를 이용한 콘크리트 손상균열의 정량적 평가 (Quantitative Evaluation of Concrete Damage by X-ray CT Methods)

  • 본 연구에서는 치핑작업중에 콘크리트에 발생할 수 있는 손상균열을 정량분석하기 위해 X-ray CT 이미지를 이용하는 방법을 제안하고자 한다. 이를 위해 치핑작업을 수행한 후, 균열이 발생한 콘크리트 블록을 코어링하여 직경 50 mm, 길이 100 mm의 시편을 준비하였다. 그 후 마이크로 포커스 X-ray CT 촬영을 하여 얻은 이미지를 3D 이미지로 재구성(reconstruction)하였다. 이렇게 얻어진 3D CT 이미지에 3DMA (3 Dimensional Medial axis Analysis)법을 적용하여, 손상 평가 파라메타로 시편의 위치에 따라 균열의 성질을 평가하여 손상을 분석하였다. 분석결과 치핑에 의한 손상은 치핑 표면으로부터 3 cm 깊이까지 발생한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 CT이미지 공간분석법에서 사용되는 여러 파라메타 중 공극률 지표(Porosity index), Burn number 그리고 Medial axis 의 파라메타를 이용해 치핑표면 근처의 손상 분석이 가능하다는 것이 확인되었다. 이 방법은 내부구조에 변화가 발생한 암석을 대상으로 한 연구에서도 비파괴 상태로 내부의 균열 평가, 가시화에 적용가능하다.

WC-10Co4Cr으로 초고속 화염용사 코팅된 Cu 합금의 해수내 캐비테이션 손상 거동 (Behaviors of Cavitation Damage in Seawater for HVOF Spray Coated Layer with WC-10Co4Cr on Cu Alloy)

  • Due to the good corrosion resistance and machinability, copper alloy is commonly employed for shipbuilding, hydroelectric power and tidal power industries. The Cu alloy, however, has poor durability, and the seawater application at fast flow condition becomes vulnerable to cavitation damage leading to economic loss and risking safety. The HVOF(High Velocity Oxygen Fuel) thermal spray coating with WC-10Co4Cr were therefore introduced as a replacement for chromium or ceramic to minimize the cavitation damage and secure durablility under high-velocity and high-pressure fluid flow. Cavitation test was conducted in seawater at $15^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$ with an amplitude of $30{\mu}m$ on HVOF WC-10Co4Cr coatings produced by thermal spray. The cavitation at $15^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$ exposed the substrate in 12.5 hours and in 10 hours, respectively. Starting from 5 hours of cavitation, the coating layer continued to show damage by higher than 160% over time when the temperature of seawater was elevated from $15^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$. Under cavitation environment, although WC-10Co4Cr has good wear resistance and durability, increase in temperature may accelerate the damage rate of the coating layer mainly due to cavitation damage.

터널 화재로 인한 콘크리트 세그먼트의 손상특성 규명 (Eire-induced Damage to Shield TBM Concrete Segment)

  • 지하공간에서의 화재는 인명 및 재산피해 뿐만 아니라 지하구조물에 심각한 손상을 발생시킨다. 이러한 화재로부터 구조물을 보호하기 위해서 화재에 의한 지하구조물 시공재료의 손상을 파악하는 것은 매우 중요한 사항이다. 본 연구에서는 화재에 의한 지하구조물의 손상을 파악하기 위하여 지하공간 화재모의시험 가열로를 제작하였고, 쉴드 TBM 콘크리트 세그먼트시편에 대하여 모의 화재실험을 수행하였다. 수행된 실험은 5분에 $1,200^{circ}C$에 도달하여 1시간동안 유지한 후 2시간에 걸쳐 소화되는 RABT곡선을 모사하였다. 시험체내에 설치된 온도센서로 확인한 결과, 화재면으로부터 약 20cm까지 폭렬이 발생하였다. 또한 시험이 완료된 블럭시편으로부터 채취된 코어시편에 수행된 물리$\cdot$화학적 실험을 통하여 폭렬면으로부터 약 l0cm까지 시공재료의 특성이 저하되었음을 확인하였다.

모델 변천에 따른 가스터빈 1단 버켓의 손상경향 분석 (Analysis of Damage Trend for Gas Turbine 1st Bucket Related to the Change of Models)

  • Some of gas turbine model of 7F-Class has constructed and is operating with units domestically. Non-destructive testing (NDT) is one of the methods being used to inspect damage $1^{st}$ stage bucket and review damage trends. We also analyze damage configuration and microstructure according to material and compare with pape of electric power research institute (EPRI). The damaged mode could be determined by leveraging failure analysis. Especially, configuration uprate of bucket is not only to prevent damage during operation but also avoid domestic manufacturing by the competitors. Modifications were mainly concentrated on surfaces such as cooling hole and bucket tips. Analyzing of bucket damage, the earlier model of 7F-Class used with one cycle with equivalent operation hour (EOH), has various cracking of the bucket surface. Bucket damage of new model is centered on tip area (54%) as analyzed by EPRI research. We conclude that improving bucket configuration would increase repair rate on the bucket tip.

X선회절에 의한 구상흑연주철의 구름접촉 피로손상도 평가 (Evaluation of Rolling Contact Fatigue Damage of DCI by X-ray Diffraction)

  • Evaluation of rolling contact fatigue damage as well as material development for roll of rolling mill is being studied until quite recently. In this paper, a focus has been imposed on evaluating the rolling contact fatigue damage. In order for this, the accumulating process of rolling contact damage using the ferritic, pearlitic and bainitic DCI has been analyzed by X-ray diffraction technique. The main finds are; 1) The graphite in DCI is considered to be a cause of interfering in the redistribution of stress. Eventually, it results in the branching of crack. 2) The evaluation of rolling contact fatigue damage can be estimated in terms of the change of residual stress and/or a half-value breadth on surface during rolling contact.

  • Rolling element bearing fatigue life can be significantly reduced by debris particles in lubricants. The debris particles cause raceway surface dents that initiate early fatigue damage. Optical interferometry has been found to be the best method for characterizing bearing raceway debris dent damage. This technique is used to determine the important features, sizes and density of dents. The resulting data file is then used to determine bearing fatigue life. Tests show that bearings manufactured by different processes and material types are affected differently by debris damage and that these differences must be considered by life prediction methodologies. Bearings made by a specific enhanced process can significantly resist the deleterious effects of debris damage and outperform bearings made by other means.

Damage Mechanism of Asphalt Concrete under Low Temperatures

  • Low temperature associated damage mechanism is not well known for asphalt concrete. Many studies have related the thermal cracking of pavement in the roadway in cold region with overall shrinkage of the pavement surface under assumption of homogeneous material. This study, however, was intiated based on the assumption that thermal incompatibility of materials (heterogeneous) in asphalt concrete mixture would be the primary cause of the damages. Acoustic emission technique and microscopic obsevation were employed to evaluate damage mechanism of asphalt concrete due to low temperature. The first method showed the sufficient evidence that asphalt concrete could be damaged by lowered temperature only. The second method showed that the damage by temperature resulted in micro-cracks at the interface between asphalt matrix and aggregate particle. It was concluded that these damage mechanisms were the primary cause of major thermal cracking of asphalt pavement in cold region.

들민달팽이의 생활사와 인삼의 피해 및 약제 방제 (Life History, Ginseng Damage and Chemical Control of the Field Slug, Deroceras varsans A, Adams)

  • Field and laboratory works were conducted to Investigate the life history, ginseng damage and chemical control effect of the field slug, Deroceras varians A. Adams. D. varians laid eggs from April to June, but a small number of eggs were also found from July to September in the field. Most young slugs grew through the slimmer months to maturity by October. overwintered beneath the moist soil surface, and began feeding and egg-laying in the following April. indicating that D varians have a life cycle in a year. Damage of ginseng plants by D. varina occurred mainly from late April to mid May in the 3rd to 5th year ginseng fields with rice-straw mulching. It seems that this damage is caused by the adults in oviposition periods and related to rice-straw mulching of ginseng fields. In the experiment, ethoprop 5% granule and metaldehyde 6% bait showed relatively high effectiveness in the control of D. varians adults. Bordeaux mixture was more effective when the chemical was sprayed after infestation of the slug than before the infestation and when the 6-12 mixture was used.

  • The modeling of crack initiation and propagation is very important for the failure analysis of concrete. The cracking process in concrete is quite different from that of other materials, such as metal and glass, in that it is not a sudden onset of new free surface but a continuous forming and connecting of microcracks. The failure process of concrete by cracking causes irreversible deformations and stiffness degradation. Those phenomenon can be modeled using plasticity and damage theory in macroscopic aspect. In this study, a plastic-damage model based on homogenized crack model considering velocity discontinuity and damage variable which is a function of plastic strain is proposed for fracture analysis of concrete. Finally, the plastic-damage model is verified with experimental data.

Characteristics of Material Damage Caused by Acid Deposition in East Asia

  • Material exposure experiments were performed to evaluate the relationship between air pollution and material corrosion rates based on collaboration with researchers in China, Japan, and Korea. Qualitative and quantitative atmospheric corrosion was estimated from damage caused to bronze, copper, steel, marble, cedar, cypress, and lacquer plates exposed to outdoor and indoor conditions in certain East Asian cities. The effects of atmospheric and meteorological factors on the damage to the copper plates and marble pieces were estimated using a regression analysis. The results indicated that sulfur dioxide produced the most destruction of the materials, especially in South Korea and China. In Japan, the copper plates were damaged as a result of natural conditions and sea salt. Copper was also found to be damaged by the surface deposition of sulfur and chlorine. Meanwhile, marble was substantially degraded by gaseous sulfur dioxide, yet sulfate ions in rain had no effect. Accordingly, the analysis of air pollution from the perspective of material damage was determined to be very useful in evaluating and substantiating the intensity of air pollution in East Asia.
