In order to manufacture an attractive waste glass for the permanent and secure disposal of high-level radioactive waste, the complex composition of the simulated nuclear waste glass PNL-7668 was simplified to a composition of sodium borosilicate glass. The substitutions of $Fe_2O_3$ and $Al_2O_3$ were added to examine on the leaching characteristics of simulated nuclear waste glass with variable composition. The leach tests for these glasses were performed according to 'MCC-1, Static Leach Test Procedure' in acid and basic solution. In this study, for the $Al_2O_3$-containing glasses, Na ion release from these glasses was higher in acid solution than in basic solution. As the content of $Fe_2O_3$ was increased in glasses, Na ion release was increased in acid solution, in spite of decrease of amount of total mass diminution.

For the purpose of improving the hot corrosion resistance of Ni-base superalloy, Inconel 600, aluminide and chromium-aluminide coatings by pack cementation process were studied. The morphology of these coatings is dependent on the type of process employed. And their overall composition depends on the composition of the base alloy and on the nature of the cement. Therefore the different aluminide and chromium-aluminide coatings obtained on a superalloy do not possess the same resistance to oxidation and hot corrosion. The mechanisms governing the formation of the coatings and the composition of the coating were varied by pack composition and temperature, and cyclic hot corrosion resistance of the auluminide coating formed by one-step process was inferior to that of the coating formed by two-step process. and Cr-Al composite coating showed good resistance for cyclic hot corrosion.

The lifetime and corrosion resistance of the coating depends on its thickness and composition. We checked how the plating progressed according to the shape of the product to be plated. There was no significant difference in the composition or thickness of the plating according to the shape of the separately plated products. Samples of different shapes collected from products with complex shapes showed no significant difference in composition depending on the shape, but significant differences in thickness. This difference is due to the difference in applied current density depending on the shape of the product.
Through the formative analysis of the traditional jokakbo, we have composed surface composition that was made by a perfect square, triangle, a weather vane type, vertical type, cintamani type, and a mixed rectangular. And we have composed 18 kinds of motif stimulants that was made by vivid tone, pale tone, and so on, and finally analyzed sensibility image, preference rate of them. The cause of composition for the sensibility image of stimulant was composed by the cause of simplicity characteristics, interesting characteristics, rigid-flexibility characteristics, and modern characteristics. And from these things, the cause of simplicity characteristics and the cause of interesting characteristics were revealed as important dimensional factors of sensibility image. The sensibility image of motif was revealed as a simple image of perfect square, a feminine image of cintamani type, a modern image of mixed rectangular. And black-white colored mixed rectangular and chromatic colored cintamani type were also revealed as an interesting image. The preference rate of motif is related with the cause of interesting characteristics and simplicity characteristics, it also has been revealed to prefer the pale tone than others. And it also has been revealed that achromatic colored mixed rectangular, cintamani type of vivid tone, perfect square and rectangular of pale tone were mostly preferred.

Glass slides were chemically etched with sulfuric acid using five different methods. we investigated the effects of the chemical etching conditions on such properties as chemical composition, surface roughness, and the thermal stability of the glass. Sodium and carbon atoms in the surface of the glass are effectively eliminated by chemical etching with sulfuric acid. The glass slides were boiled for 30 min in 95% sulfuric acid and were depth profiled at room temperature with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), the Na ls signal was not detected in the detection limit of XPS. Surface morphology of the glass was very different depending on the concentration of sulfuric acid. The surface of the glass etched with 50% sulfuric acid was rougher than that of glass etched with 95% sulfuric acid. The sodium concentration of the glass boiled for 30 min in 95% sulfuric acid was nearly zero at the glass surface, and the sodium composition changed very little with annealing temperatures up to 35$0^{\circ}C$ in a vacuum environment. However the sulfur concentration at the glass surface due to the sulfuric acid increased with increasing temperature.

Polished surface of $CsB_{3}O_{5}$ (CBO) has been observed by reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). For comparison, electronic properties of CBO powder have been studied by XPS. It has been found that the crystal surface is covered by thick amorphous layer with chemical composition closely related to that of CBO. Great enrichment of top surface by cesium, ~30 % in reference to the bulk of the modified layer, has been displayed by depth profiling.
Previous investigation results revealed that after the Low Temperature Plasma (LTP) treatment, the hydrophilicity of wool fiber was improved significantly. Such improvement enhances the wool dyeing and finishing processes which might be due to the changes of the wool surface to a more reactive one. In this paper, wool fibers were treated with LTP with different gases, namely, oxygen, nitrogen and gas mixture (25 % hydrogen/75 % nitrogen). Investigations showed that chemical composition of wool fiber surface varied differently with the different plasma gas used. The surface chemical composition of the different LTP-treated wool fibers was evaluated with different characterization methods, namely FTIR-ATR, XPS and saturated adsorption value. The experimental results were thoroughly discussed.

Although the bulk composition of materials is one of the major considerations in extractive metallurgy and environmental science, surface composition and topography (edges and dislocations are preferred sites for physicochemical reactions) control surface reactivity, and consequently play a major role in determining metallurgical phenomena and pollution by heavy metals and organics. An understanding of interaction mechanisms of different chemical species with the mineral surface in an aqueous media is very important in natural environment and metallurgical processing. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) has been used as an ex-situ analytical technique, but the material to be analyzed can be any size from $100{\mu}m$ up to about 1 cm. It can also measure mixed solids powders, but it is impossible to ascertain the original source of resulting x-ray signals where they were emitted from, since it radiates and scans the macro sample surface area.
