In offshore floating structures, the viscous mean drift force due to drag is considered a design part that has not been considered until recently. In this paper, an analytical solution for the viscous mean drift forces on a floating vertical cylinder considering the waves and currents was obtained. The area was considered by dividing it into a splash zone above the free surface and a submerged zone below the free surface. In the case of waves, only the splash zone was considered; in the case of waves and currents, equations were obtained in both the splash zone and the submerged zone. The RAO results of previous studies were used to compare the calculated results with the drift forces acting on the fixed cylinder. Except for the case in only waves in the splash zone, the viscous mean drift force acting on the floating cylinder was larger than the drift force acting on the relatively fixed cylinder in most frequencies. In particular, the increase was greater when the currents were considered to be more important. Therefore, these results provide the inference for the viscous drift force due to drag in the design of floating offshore structures.
The effects of surface color and morphology on the mar behaviors of urethane-acrylate coated surfaces were examined. The superiority of mar resistance was observed in the order of white, red and black-colored samples. This can be explained by a contrast effect. In other words, in case of black colored sample, it takes place the defuse reflection of the incident light on the damaged region where mar damage exerts, leading to whitening phenomenon. Therefore, the damaged region is easily recognized by contrasting the black background. On the other hand, it is difficult for the white-colored sample to perceive the mar-damaged area by the white background acting as protecting coloration. As the gloss of urethane-acrylate coated surface increases, it is observed that there is an increase in the number of carbonyl (-C=O) function group, amount of ethylene and silica. The enhancements of surface rigidity by adding the silica particles and formation of carbonyl function groups by the surface oxidation lead to the increase in mar resistance, while the increase of polyethylene wax is responsible for the improved gloss and smooth-faced surface. Based on the above findings, technical approaches leading the improvement of mar resistance of the urethane-acrylate coated surface are discussed.

In this study, the force and moment acting on a Joubert BB2 submarine model at depths near the free surface were measured through a captive model test with the scale ratio of 1/15. Based on the experiment, the pitch moment and heave force due to the "Tail suction effect", including the change in surge force with depth near the free surface, were quantitatively analyzed. The change of force and moment according to the relative position of the sail and the free surface was reviewed with the free surface waves generated for each depths. As a result, the angle of attack of the hull to counteract the pitch moment induced by the tail suction effect was derived. The effect of the hydrostatic moment component according to the angle of attack on the equilibrium of pitch moment was also taken into account. The control plane performance tests for the X-type rudder and sail plane were conducted in snorkel and surface depth conditions to figure out the control plane angles for the neutral level flight of the submarine at near free surface. The results of this study are expected to be used as a reference data for the neutral level flight of the submarine at near free surface operation in the free running model test as well as numerical studies.

Simulations of three-dimensional numerical wave tank are performed to investigate wave force acting on a large cylindrical structure and consequent wave deformation, which are induced by bore after breaking waves. The numerical model is based on the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with a finite-difference method combined with a volume of fluid(VOF) method, which is capable of tracking the complex free surface, including wave breaking. In order to promote wave breaking of the incident wave, the approach slope was built seaward of the structure with a constant slope and a large cylindrical structure was installed on a flat bed. The incident waves were broken on the approach slope or flat bed by its wave height. In the present study, all waves acting on the large cylindrical structure were limited to breaking bore after wave breaking. The effects of the position of the structure and the incident wave height on the wave force and wave transformations were mainly investigated with the concern of wave breaking. Further, the relations between the variation of wave energy by wave propagation after wave breaking and wave force acting on the structure were discussed to give the understanding of the full-linear wave-structure interactions in three-dimensional wave fields.

The film "Parasite" portrays Korea's history and its present in a space that clearly represents the real world's hierarchy as a vertical structure. It demonstrates the problems of an insurmountable reality and the elements of various conflicts occurring below the surface of Korean society through a complex mix of human emotions and relationships. The most realistic yet unrealistic characters cross boundaries between being victims and perpetrators, defamiliarizing ordinary scenes from everyday life through their small mistakes, strange obsessions, bizarre behavior, anxious psychology, and desperate struggles. This study analyzes the expression of the film "Parasite" through its characters with the belief that the film expresses director Bong Joon-ho's consistent cinematic philosophy of taking reality beyond the traditional rules of film genres. By doing so, Bong creates a feature of the expression that shifts genres as the characters' personalities amplify related behaviors, conflicts and questions, and that this is the core of the unique nuance and distinct humor of this film. In addition, the personalities of the characters interact with all the film's elements (cinematic techniques, space, props, etc.), evoking effects of various meanings, which are transmitted through the actors'images and acting. In this respect, the study analyzes how the actors were cast in order to realistically reproduce the characters of the actors, how their acting was harmonized with the film's elements, and its features as well as how they were expressed.

In recent years, coastal and port structures have attempted to prevent wave-overtopping or provide waterfront areas by installing superstructures on the structural crowns. In general, in the design stage, the Goda formula acting on the front the structure is applied to calculate the wave pressure acting on the superstructure in consideration of the wave-runup of the design wave. However, the wave pressure exceeding the Goda wave pressure could generate depending on the installation location of the superstructure where the wave-overtopping occurs. This study analyzed the applicability of the Goda formula to the wave pressure calculation for the superstructure of the vertical structures through hydraulic model experiments and numerical simulations. Furthermore, this study investigated the magnitude of the wave pressure acting on the superstructure based on detailed numerical results. As a result, the wave pressure acting on the superstructure was up to 120% higher than the maximum wave pressure on the still water surface. In addition, the wave pressure increases exponentially with the Froude number computed by the overtopping water depth at the crown of the structure, and we proposed an empirical formula for predicting the wave pressure based on the Froude number.

The updated Lagrangian Finite Element Method is introduced to analyse rigid body-fluid impact problem which is characterized by incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and impact-contact conditions between free surface and rigid body. For the convenience of numerical computation, velocity fields are splinted into vicous and pressure parts, and then the governing equations and boundary conditions are decomposed in accordance with the decomposition. However, Viscous stresses acting an the solid boundaries are neglected on the assumption that very small velocity gradients may occur during extremely small time interval of the impact. Four coded quadrilateral elements are used to discretize the space domain and the fully explicit time-marching algorithm is employed with a reasonably small time step. At the beginning of each time step, contact velocity of the rigid body is computed from the momentum balance between the body and the fluid. The velocity field is then computed to satisfy the discretized equations of motions and incompressibility and contact constraints as well as an exact free surface boundary condition. At the end of each time step, the fluid domain is updated from the velocity field. In the present time stepping numerical analysis, behaviour of the free surface near the body can be observed without any difficulty which is very important in the water impact problem. The applicability of the algorithm is illustrated by a wedge type falling body problem. The numerical solutions for time-varying pressure distributions and impact loadings acting ion the surface are obtained.

The hydrodynamic forces acting on a forced oscillating 2-dimensional cylinder on a free surface of a fluid of a finite depth are calculated by distributing singularities on the immersed body surface. And the Haskind-Newman relation in a fluid of a finite depth is derived. The wave exciting force of the cylinder to an oscillation is also calculated by using the above relation. The method is applied to a circular cylinder swaying in a water of finite depth, and then, to a rectangular cylinder heaving, swaying, and rolling. The results of above cases give a good agreement with those by earlier investigators such as Bai, Keil, and Yeung. Also, this method is applied to a Lewis form cylinder with a half beam-to-draft ratio of 1.0 and a sectional area coefficient of 0.941, and to a bulbous section cylinder which is hard to represent by a mapping function. The results reveal that the hydrodynamic forces in heave increase as the depth of a water decrease, but in sway or roll, the tendency of the hydrodynamic forces is difficult to say in a few words. The exciting force to heave for a bulbous section cylinder becomes zero at two frequencies. The added mass moment of inertia for roll is seemed to mainly depend on the sectional shape than the water depth.

Ultrathin atomic layer deposition (ALD) coatings were found to enhance the performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Previous studies have demonstrated that $LiCoO_2$ cathode powders coated with metal oxides with thicknesses of $\sim100-1000{\AA}$ grown using wet chemical techniques improved LIB performance. In this study, $LiCoO_2$ powders were coated with conformal $Al_2O_3$ ALD films with thicknesses of only $\sim3-4{\AA}$ established using 2 ALD cycles. The coated $LiCoO_2$ powders exhibited a capacity retention of 89% after 120 charge-discharge cycles in the 3.3~4.5 V (vs. $Li/Li^+$) range. In contrast, the bare $LiCoO_2$ powders displayed only a 45% capacity retention. This dramatic improvement may result from the ultrathin $Al_2O_3$ ALD film acting to minimize Co dissolution or to reduce surface electrolyte reactions.
A developed code is applied to simulate relative motion of floating bodies in a side-by-side arrangement, including effects of a fender and a hawser. The developed code is based on the flux-difference splitting scheme for immiscible incompressible fluids and the hybrid Cartesian/immersed boundary method. To validate the developed code for free surface flows around deforming boundaries, the water wave generation is simulated, which is caused by bed movement. The computed wave profile and time histories of wave elevation are compared with other experimental and computational results. The effects of a fender and a hawser are modeled by asymmetric force acting on the floating bodies according to a relative displacement with the bounds, in which the fender and the hawser exert no force on the bodies. It has been observed that the floating body can be accelerated by a gap flow due to a phase difference caused by the free surface. Grid independency is established for the computed time history of the body velocity, based on three different size grids.
