Individuals have been under more stress since the COVID-19 pandemic began than they were before the pandemic. While social support is a known stress buffer among the general population, its impact on stress among vulnerable populations, such as immigrants and those living in rural areas, has received little attention in the context of South Korea. Accordingly, we examined the relationship between different types of social support and COVID-19 stress among young adult immigrants based on where they live (rural vs. urban). We conducted a survey of 300 young adult immigrants aged 25-34 years and analyzed the results. The dependent variable was COVID-19 stress, and the independent variables were four types of social support: emotional, appraisal, instrumental, and informational. We discovered that young adult immigrants in rural areas perceived higher-level social supportin all aspects compared with those in urban areas. Furthermore, social support was not related to COVID-19 stress in urban areas, while appraisal support was positively and informational support was negatively related to COVID-19 stress in rural areas. Our findings suggest that a contextualized understanding of social support is critical to understanding COVID-related stress during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This study was intended to analyze whether there would be difference in awareness of the Evaluative Accreditation System(the administrative procedures of Evaluative Accreditation, the effect of Evaluative Accreditation, and the preferred public support types for encouraging participation in Evaluative Accreditation) between child-care directors and teachers, and among the types of child-care centers. The questionnaires were administrated to 168 child-care directors and 423 child-care teachers in Gyeonggido. Data analyses were conducted by descriptive statistics, the chi-test and the t-test. The main results were as follows. First, there was significant difference in awareness of the administrative procedures of Evaluative Accreditation among the types of child-care centers. Second, there was difference in awareness of the effect of Evaluative Accreditation on child-care service areas between child-care center directors and teachers, and among the types of child-care centers in terms of child-care services. Third, in terms of the preferred public support for the encouragement of participation in Evaluative Accreditation, there was difference between child-care center directors and teachers, and among the types of child-care centers.
This study aimed to identify predictors of acculturation types among marriage migrant women at the individual and dominant society levels. To accomplish this goal, we recruited marriage migrant women from China and Vietnam, classified their acculturation types according to their scores on acculturation attitudes, and performed multinomial logistic regression on acculturation types by entering marriage migrant women's individual and dominant society level factors as covariates based on previous research. The results showed that most of the participants were classified under integration(N=376), followed by assimilation(N=66), separation(N=60) and marginalization(N=48). Lower household income, lower sense of mastery, weaker ethnic identity and lower social support predicted assimilation as compared to integration. Less education, higher household income, weaker ethnic identity, lower family satisfaction and lower social support predicted separation as compared to integration. Finally, as compared to integration, marginalization was predicted by lower sense of mastery, lower ethnic identity and lower social support. This study expands the current scholarship on acculturation by examining acculturation as an indicator of the psychosocial adaptation of immigrants and by identifying factors that predict specific acculturation types among marriage migrant women.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the supporting-attitude type of the eldest son and his wife living seperately from his parents. This research focused on the various degree of intergenerational solidarity between the eldest son and his wife and his parents. For this study, the supporting-attitude types were classified into 4 types: these combine 2 types of residence (living together with the parents or living seperately from the parents) with 2 types of financial support (with with-out financial support0. The concept of intergenerational solidarity, comprises three elements: objective solidarity, subjective solidarity (attachment and conflict), and consensual solidarity (filial obligation). The subjects of this study were 166 couples living seperately from son's parents in Seoul city. The data were analyzed by multiple discriminant analyses, one way ANOVA's, and the paired t-test. The results of this study are as follows; 1. Although the majority of the eldest sons live now away from the parents home, they expect to eventually live together with and support their parents financially. The majority of the wives, however, do not want to live together with their husbands' parents even though expecting to support them financially. 2. According to the discriminant analyses, the supporting-attitude types of the eldest sons were discriminated by attachment and conflict, and those of their wives by conflict and obligation. 3. There were significant difference between supporting-attitude types in terms of intergenerational solidarity. In general, the couples expecting to live together with the parents reported a higher degree of attachment, a stronger sense of obligation, and a lower degree of conflict than the couples expecting to live seperately from the parents. 4. Significant differences between the husbands and the wives were found in attachment, obligation, and conflict. While the husbands showed higher attachment and obligation than their wives, the wives showed higher conflict than the husbands. No significant difference, however, was found between the couples in objective solidarity.
In this paper, we present the results of an experimental study on the effect of polymer support fluid on shaft resistance of offshore bored piles. A series of pullout tests were performed on bored piles installed under various boundary conditions considering different types of grounds and support fluids, and a range of support fluid exposure times. Contrary to previous studies concerning onshore bored piles, a time dependent effect of polymer fluid on shaft resistance was observed in all ground types. The adverse effect of polymer support fluid on the shaft resistance, however, was considerably less than bentonite support fluid for a given exposure time. No significant reduction in shaft resistance was evident when limiting the exposure time of the polymer support fluid to the side wall of the borehole within 2-3 hours. The degree to which the polymer fluid affects shaft resistance seemed to vary with the ground type. A proper consideration should be given to the time dependent effect of polymer fluid on shaft resistance of bored piles installed in offshore construction environment to limit its adverse effect on the pile performance. The practical implications of the findings are discussed.
In this study, seismic performance of various types of valve supports in terms of flexural rigidity are evaluated by FEA using equivalent static load method. Flexural rigidity of the existing two types of valve supports can be effectively improved by simply adding one more bracket on the other side of support. New types of polygonal valve supports with a concept of fully stressed beam theory are suggested and it is verified that the new supports are rigid enough to withstand stronger earthquake which we should be prepared for.
After 2004, as the community mixed-support facility in Japan was admitted as a private business of public facilities based on the Special Law for Urban Regeneration, the community mixed-support facilities in Japan are developed into various types with the view of the urban regeneration and urban renewal, more different point of view, and a tendency of establishment of the community facility has been considerably changed for the past twenty years. The reasons of the change are the social demand for the reformation of facility and the modification of subsidy constitution according to the establishment of equal facility. Some examples of that are the construction of lifelong education community and the change into a equivalent society between male and female and the adjusting to the aging and the welfare society and the social situation of more consumption recently, and in order to emerge from former building system, new facilities related to the contents are being expanded. The complex of the community mixed-support facility has an advantage in that it supplies the services for the complex of the community mixed-support facility, constitutes the communal character and the sense of solidarity among residents and can lead the development of region through the exchange of regional information. Through the Japanese community mixed-support facility which has many cases of it, this study would recognize the suggestion, the feature of it and examine the complex types.
The purpose of this study is to find out perception types of interested group in college on the education-welfare support for disabled college students by Q-methodology, then to search for political measures to support of disabled college students in the implication of the sorted subjective viewpoints. The result of this study showed that there are four major sorts of perception types on the education-welfare support for disabled college students: requests for realistic and comprehensive services for stable college life(Type1), requests for the disabled personalized services for the vocational life after graduation(Type2), lacks of understanding on the education-welfare support and disabled college students(Type3), and ambivalences on the education-welfare support(Type4). The findings of this study are summarized as several kinds.

In electronic support systems, the analysis of PRI modulation characteristics for radar signals has attracted much interest because of the problem of the identification ambiguity in dense electronic warfare signal environments. A new method of recognizing the PRI modulation types of radar pulse signals is proposed for electronic support. The proposed method recognizes the PRI modulation types using the classifiers which are based on the property of the linear autocorrelation of the PRI sequences for each PRI modulation type. In addition, the proposed method estimates the PRI modulation period for the PRI modulation types with the periodicity. Simulation results are presented to show the performance of the proposed method.
By analyzing a nationwide survey on Korean publics, this study examines the social determinants of public support for three types of scientific research-basic research aimed at pure knowledge, applied research toward industrial application, and research for social problem-solving which aims to enhance ordinary citizens' quality of life. The present study finds the differential effects of social- and political value orientations on the level of public support for respective types of research. As ones have more progressive in their subjective political orientations, they are more likely to support research for social problem-solving than other types of research, while conservatives tend to support basic research and those with neo-liberal ideology tend to support applied research. The Korean public also tends to perceive research for social problem-solving as a counter to basic research while it has been developed against the conventional emphasis on applied research in Korea. Also, the level of support for research for social problem-solving increases with the higher level of trust in scientific authority and expertise, while it has been developed against expertism and included public engagement in science as an important element. Finally, those who have lower income tend to support for research for social problem-solving than other types of research. The implications of these findings are discussed.
