  • Zinc oxide has semi-conductivity and super conductivity characteristics. It can be used optically and is applied on many areas such as gas sensor, solar cell and optical waveguide. In this paper, to improve optical characteristics of ZnO, aluminum was added on zinc oxide. Zinc oxide and aluminum zinc oxide was fabricated as nano fiber form. ZnO solution was created by mixing poly vinyl pyrrolidone, ethyl alcohol, and zinc acetate. An Al doped ZnO was created by adding aluminum solution to ZnO sol. By applying these sols on electro spinning method, nano fibers were fabricated. These fibers are heat treated at 300, 500, and $700^{\circ}C$ degrees and were analyzed with X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to examine the nano structures. TGA and DSC measurement was also used to measure the change of mass and calorie upon temperature change. The absorbance of ZnO and Al-doped ZnO was carried out by UV-vis measurement.

  • In a previous study, hydrolysates of porcine placenta were obtained and the extraction efficiency for proteins and amino acids was compared between sub- and super-critical water extraction systems; optimum efficiency was found to be achieved using subcritical water ($170^{\circ}C$, 10 bar). In this study, the effects of adding ethanol to the subcritical water system were investigated. The lowest-molecular-weight extraction product detected weighed 434 Da, and the efficiency of extraction for low-molecular-weight products was increased when either the concentration of ethanol was decreased, or the extraction time was lengthened from 10 min to 30 min. The highest concentration of free amino acids (approximately 8 mM) was observed following 30 min extraction using pure distilled water. The concentration of free amino acids was significantly lower when ethanol was added or a shorter extraction time was used (p<0.05). Color change of the solution following extraction was measured. There were no significant differences in color between lysates produced with different extraction times when using distilled water (p>0.05); however, using different extraction times produced significant differences in color when using 20% or 50% ethanol solution for subcritical extraction (p<0.05). The range of pH for the hydrolysate solutions was 6.4-7.5. In conclusion, the investigated extraction system was successful in the extraction of $\leq$ 500 Da hydrolysates from porcine placenta, but addition of ethanol did not yield higher production of low-molecular-weight hydrolysates than that achieved by DW alone.

  • The T-DMB which was developed by the convergence of digital broadcasting technology and communication technology provides us with very good quality of music like CD, and provides TV services in a super express train like the KTX whose velocity is over 300 Km per hour. The T-DMB is diffusing toward the world as a technology which is be able to provide the various convergent services of broadcasting and communication through mobile phone, PDA, dedicated terminal, and so on. A business model needed for the diffusion of the T-DMB toward the world was established and utilized to expand the T-DMB into Vietnam in the paper. In addition, this paper describes a case for the establishment of the T-DMB system in order to provide the paid services in Vietnam. It is expected that the expansion of the T-DMB into Vietnam will make a great contribution to the diffusion of the T-DMB toward the world.

  • In Pohang area, basaluminite accompanying a little amounts of hydrobasalumnite, super-genetically occurs as whitish cryptocrystalline (2-4 $\mu\textrm{m}$) clay-like aggregates in the vicinity of altered carbonate concretions embedded within mudstones of the Tertiary Yeonil Group. A hydrobasaluminite changed readily into a basaluminite at room temperature in air, and, in turn, into a metabasaluminite when heating to 150$^{\circ}$~30$0^{\circ}C$. For the basaluminite, a monoclinic unit-cellparameters (a=14.845$\AA$, b=10.006$\AA$, c=11.082$\AA$, $\beta$=122.15$^{\circ}$) were calculated by X-ray powder diffraction data. Its basal reflections (001 and 002) are XRD analyses strongly indicate that the aluminum sulphate mineral has a layer structure and, at least, three types of water, i.e., (1) interlayer water (9.0 wt %), (2) crystal water (8.0 wt %), and (3) structural water (19.0 wt %). may present in its lattice. Based on TG-DTG data combined with EDS and IR analyses, a new chemical formula of Al5SO4(OH)134H2O was given to the basaluminite. Field occurrence and stable isotope data ($\delta$18O, $\delta$D, $\delta$34S) for the basaluminite seem to reflect that it was formed by the leached meteoric solution from surrounding mudstones during or after uplifting. An interaction of the acid solution with carbonate concretion and the resultant local neutralization of the fluid rich in Al3+ and SO42- are major controls on the basaluminite formation.

  • This study has investigated the effect of aging treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-6Al-xZn(x = 1.5, 2.5) alloys fabricated by the squeeze casting process. The microstructures of as-squeeze cast were composed of pro-eutectic ${\alpha}$, super saturated ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}(Mg_{17}Al_{12})$ compound. Aged at both $200^{\circ}C$ and $240^{\circ}C$, Mg-6Al-xZn alloys showed the peak hardness due to the formation of ${\beta}(Mg_{17}Al_{12})$ precipitates. The discontinuous precipitates of the lamella type are predominant at $200^{\circ}C$ aging treatment, while the finely dispersed continuous precipitates were dominant at $240^{\circ}C$ aging treatment. Mg-6Al-xZn alloys fabricated by the squeeze casting process had the better combination of tensile strength and elongation compared to the conventionally cast alloys. As zinc contents increased, the tensile strength was increased by the solid solution strengthening effect of zinc.

  • Recently, as a solution to the problem of maintaining system reliability, stability, and quality occurring worldwide, such as activation of smart grid and recognition of super grid and rapid grid interconnection of renewable energy sources HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) will appear on the front of the electric power system. These concepts are also very important concepts in HVDC systems. When the HVDC system is linked to the existing power system, it is composed of AC/DC/AC conversion device, and these conversion devices are composed of many thyristors. These parts(Devices) are connected in a complicated manner, and they belong to the one with a higher failure rate. However, the problem of establishing the concept of failure rate of HVDC parts directly linked to economic efficiency and the understanding accompanying it are still insufficient. Therefore, in this paper, we establish the meaning of reliability in power system and try to develop a model to analyze and verify the failure rate data of HVDC based on this.

  • When concentration of vacancies in a CZ silicon crystal is defined by molar fraction XB, the degree of super-saturation $\sigma$ is given by [XB-XBS]/XBS=XB/XBS-1=ln (XB/XBS) because XB/XBS is nearly equal to unity. Here, XBS is the saturated concentration of vacancies in a silicon crystal and XB is a little larger than XBS. According to Bragg-Williams approximation, the chemical potential of the vacancies in the crystal is given by ${\mu}$B=${\mu}$0+RT ln XB+RT ln ${\gamma}$, where R is the gas constant, T is temperature, ${\mu}$0 is an ideal chemical potential of the vacancies and ${\gamma}$ is an adjustable parameter similar to the activity of solute in a solution. Thus, $\sigma$(T) is equal to (${\mu}$B-${\mu}$BS)/RT. Driving force of nucleation of the vacancy agglomeration will be proportional to the chemical potential difference (${\mu}$B-${\mu}$BS) or $\sigma$(T), while growth of the vacancy agglomeration is proportional to diffusion of the vacancies and grad ${\mu}$B.

  • By applying population synthesis method, stellar populations in the nuclei of M31 and M32 are studied. We obtained five and four models for M31 and M32 respectively, for different main sequence turn-offs and keeping the astrophysical constraints as loose as possible. The best models for M31 and M32 are thought to have G0-5 and F5-8 main sequence trun-offs respectively. These models show that the main sequence stars outnumber the giants, which indicates the dwarf-dominance in external galactic nuclei. Even though there are some computational difficulties because of non-uniqueness in solution, two major points can be pointed out when compared to the previous papers. First, the ultraviolet deficiency expected from the conventional metal rich population models is not detected in our models, Instead ultraviolet radiation turns out to be somewhat higher than that of observation. Second one is the minor contribution from the Super Metal Rich (SMR) K giants to the integrated light of the program galaxies. That is, in our models, the SMR contribution is at best the same level as normal giants contrary to the SMR dominance of previous models. Since the loose astrophysical constraints are the major difference of our study from the previous ones, one should re-examine carefully for their validity further.

  • This contribution to the IV Korea-Mexico meeting deals with the hydrodynamics of the matter reinserted within super star clusters (SSCs) by both stellar winds and supernova explosions, results recently printed in The Astrophysical Journal (Silich et al. 2007). The motivation of such a project arose from the persistent presence of the small mass and compact HII regions that sit right on top of many massive and compact SSCs, from which one expects a large mechanical energy power. The data used for our calculations appear only recently (see Smith et al. 2006) for the massive and compact SSC M82-A1. We presented in our paper the calculated flow, derived through analytical and semi-analytical methods, which led to almost identical results. We have found out that the only way of accommodating a compact HII region (4.5 pc in radius, in the case of M82-A1) on top of a 6.3 Myr old and massive (> $10^6M_{\bigodot}$) SSC with a half light radius of 3 pc, requires of two assumptions: a very low heating efficiency (< 10%) within the cluster, what leads to a bimodal solution (see Tenorio-Tagle et al. 2007) and a high pressure in the surrounding medium.

  • Quantifying the solute composition of a cloud droplet (or a whole droplet) is an important task for understanding formation processes and heating/cooling rates. In this study, a combination of droplet fixation and SR-XRF microprobe analysis was used to visualize and quantify elements in a micro-scale droplet. In this study, we report the preliminary outcome of this experiment. A spherical micro-scale droplet was successfully solidified through exposure to ${\alpha}$-cyano-acrylate vapor without affecting its size or shape. An X-ray microprobe system equipped at the beam line 37XU of Super Photon ring 8 GeV (SPring-8) was applied to visualize and quantify the elemental composition in an individual micro-scale droplet. It was possible to reconstruct 2D elemental maps for the K and Cl contained in a microdroplet that was dispensed from the 10-ppm KCl standard solution. Multi-elemental peaks corresponding to X-ray energy were also successfully resolved. Further experiments to determine quantitative measures of elemental mass in individual droplets and high-resolution X-ray microtomography (i.e., 3D elemental distribution) are planned for the future.
