Observations have indicated that magnetic reconnect ion may occur frequently in the photosphere and chromosphere as well as in the solar corona. The observed features include cancelling magnetic features seen in photospheric magnetograms, and different kinds of small-scale activities such as UV explosive events and EUV jets. By integrating the observed parameters of these features with the Sweet-Parker reconnect ion theory, an attempt is made to clarify the nature of chromospheric magnetic reconnection. Our results suggest that magnetic reconnect ion may be occurring at many different levels of the photosphere and chromosphere without a preferred height and at a faster speed than is predicted by the Sweet-Parker reconnect ion model using the classical value of electric conductivity. Introducing an anomalous magnetic diffusivity 10-100 times the classical value is one of the possible ways of explaining the fast reconnect ion as inferred from observations.

This study was carried out to investigate the reaction characteristics of corona/catalyst hybrid $DeNO_x$ process. The experiments were performed by using the multi-staged pin-to-hole type corona reactor which is enable to control the pin-to-hole gap and to insert the catalyst. Also, used for this study, were catalysts which commercially used Pt, Pd and $TiO_2$, and oxygen and hydrocarbon ($C_2H_4$) as reagents. In the syn-gas test, at high temperatures in the range of $100{\sim}200^{\circ}C$, the corona-only $DeNO_x$ process did not reduce the $NO_x$ concentration effectively. However in the presence of ethylene and oxygen as reagents, the $NO_x$ removal efficiency was better at these high temperatures than corona-only $DeNO_x$ process. In addition, coronal catalyst hybrid process with $TiO_2$ showed more efficiency of $NO_x$ removal than Pt and Pd catalyst, because the $TiO_2$ catalyst was more active than Pt and Pd catalyst to converse the $NO_2$ to $HNO_3$. Furthermore, at the condition of real diesel exhaust gas, the $DeNO_x$ efficiency of corona/catalyst hybrid process was not good at higher reaction temperature and plasma density.
Observations of line of sight (LOS) Doppler velocity and non-thermal line width in the off-limb solar corona are often used for investigating the Alfvén wave signatures in the corona. In this study, we compare LOS Doppler velocities and non-thermal line widths obtained simultaneously from two different instruments, Coronal Multichannel Polarimeter (CoMP) and Hinode/EUV Imaging Spectrometer (EIS), on various off-limb coronal regions: flaring and quiescent active regions, equatorial quiet region, and polar prominence and plume regions observed in 2012-2014. CoMP provides the polarization at the Fe xiii 10747 Å coronal forbidden lines which allows their spectral line intensity, LOS Doppler velocity, and line width to be measured with a low spectral resolution of 1.2 Å in 2-D off limb corona between 1.05 and 1.40 RSun, while Hinode/EIS gives us the EUV spectral information with a high spectral resolution (0.025 Å) in a limited field of view raster scan. In order to compare them, we make pseudo raster scan CoMP maps using information of each EIS scan slit time and position. We compare the CoMP and EIS spectroscopic maps by visual inspection, and examine their pixel to pixel correlations and percentages of pixel numbers satisfying the condition that the differences between CoMP and EIS spectroscopic quantities are within the EIS measurement accuracy: ±3 km s-1 for LOS Doppler velocity and ±9 km s-1 for non-thermal width. The main results are summarized as follows. By comparing CoMP and EIS Doppler velocity distributions, we find that they are consistent with each other overall in the active regions and equatorial quiet region (0.25 ≤ CC ≤ 0.7), while they are partially similar to each other in the overlying loops of prominences and near the bottom of the polar plume (0.02 ≤ CC ≤ 0.18). CoMP Doppler velocities are consistent with the EIS ones within the EIS measurement accuracy in most regions (≥ 87% of pixels) except for the polar region (45% of pixels). We find that CoMP and EIS non-thermal width distributions are similar overall in the active regions (0.06 ≤ CC ≤ 0.61), while they seem to be different in the others (-0.1 ≤ CC ≤ 0.00). CoMP non-thermal widths are similar to EIS ones within the EIS measurement accuracy in a quiescent active region (79% of pixels), while they do not match in the other regions (≤ 61% of pixels); the CoMP observations tend to underestimate the widths by about 20% to 40% compared to the EIS ones. Our results demonstrate that CoMP observations can provide reliable 2-D LOS Doppler velocity distributions on active regions and might provide their non-thermal width distributions.

Solar Proton Events (SPEs) are the energetic phenomena related particle acceleration occurred in solar corona. Conventionally, they have been classified into two groups as the impulsive and gradual cases caused by reconnection in the flaring site and by shock generated by CME, respectively. In the previous studies, we classified these into four groups by analyzing the proton acceleration patterns in multi-energy channel observation. This showed that acceleration due to the magnetic reconnection may occur in the corona region relatively higher than the flaring site. In this study, we analyzes 54 SPEs observed in the energy band over 25 MeV from 2009 to 2013, where STEREO observations as well as SOHO can be utilized. From the multi-positional observation, we determine the exact time at which the Sun-Earth magnetic field line meets the CME shock structure by considering 3-dimensional structure of CME. Also, we determine the path length by considering the solar wind velocity for each event, so that the SPE onset time near the sun is obtained more accurately. Based on this study, we can get a more understanding of the correlation between CME progression and proton acceleration in the solar coronal region.
In a solar coronagraph, the most important component is an occulter to block the direct light from the disk of the sun. Because the intensity of the solar outer corona is $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-10}$ times of that of the solar disk ($I_{\odot}$), it is necessary to minimize scattering at the optical elements and diffraction at the occulter. Using a Fourier optic simulation and a stray light test, we investigated the performance of a compact coronagraph that uses an external truncated-cone occulter without an internal occulter and Lyot stop. In the simulation, the diffracted light was minimized to the order of $7.6{\times}10^{-10}I_{\odot}$ when the cone angle ${\theta}_c$ was about $0.39^{\circ}$. The performance of the cone occulter was then tested by experiment. The level of the diffracted light reached the order of $6{\times}10^{-9}I_{\odot}$ at ${\theta}_c=0.40^{\circ}$. This is sufficient to observe the outer corona without additional optical elements such as a Lyot stop or inner occulter. We also found the manufacturing tolerance of the cone angle to be $0.05^{\circ}$, the lateral alignment tolerance was $45{\mu}m$, and the angular alignment tolerance was $0.043^{\circ}$. Our results suggest that the physical size of coronagraphs can be shortened significantly by using a cone occulter.

This paper presented the effects of accumulation of surface charges on hydrophobicity level and the surface states of silicone polymer used for outdoor insulator treated by ultraviolet irradiation and corona discharge through measuring surface voltage decay of a corona-charged specimen were investigated. The surface resistivity by the method of the surface potential decay was compared with the value by the three electrodes methods. From this study, it was found that the accumulation of surface charges above a critical surface voltage on silicone insulating materials could lead to the temporary loss of surface hydrophobicity. In addtion, uv stress lead to a longer decay time of surface charges. We could conclude that the effects of surface charges on hydrophocity level and the changes of surface state by various artificial treatments were understood through a trend of surface potential decay.

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), hierarchical clustering is an efficient approach for lower energy consumption and extended network lifetime. In cluster-based multi-hop communications, a cluster head (CH) closer to the sink is loaded heavier than those CHs farther away from the sink. In order to balance the energy consumption among CHs, we development a novel cluster-based routing protocol for corona-structured wireless sensor networks. Based on the relaying traffic of each CH conveys, adequate radius for each corona can be determined through nearly balanced energy depletion analysis, which leads to balanced energy consumption among CHs. Simulation results demonstrate that our clustering approach effectively improves the network lifetime, residual energy and reduces the number of CH rotations in comparison with the MLCRA protocols.
This paper presents the experimental results of the dielectric characteristics with temperature changes under highly non-uniform electric field in $SF_6$ gas. The impulse preliminary breakdown developments were investigated by the measurement of predischarge current and breakdown voltage. As a result, the first stremer corona is initiated at the tip of needle electrode, and bridges the test gap. Also the first stremer corona onset and breakdown voltages the negative polarity was much higher than that in the positive polarity in same temperature. In addition, the varition of temperature have a little effect on the positive polarity. On the other hand, in some cases negative polarity corona onset and breakdown voltages increased with increasing a high temperature.

In this work, the effects of the corona treatment on surface properties of semiconducting silicone rubber were investigated in terms of contact angles, ATR-FTIR(Attenuated total reflection fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) and XPS(X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy). And the adhesive characteristics were studied by measuring the T-peel strengths. Based on chemical analysis, the surface modification can be mainly ascribed to the creation of chemically active functional groups such as C-O, C=O and C-OH on semiconducting silicone surface. This oxidized rubber layer is inorganic silica-like structure of Si bound with three to four oxygen atoms ($SiOx,\;x=3{\sim}4$. The Corona treatment produces an increase in joint strength that is maximum for 10 min treatment. However, due to brittle property of this oxidized layer, the highly oxidized layer from too much extended treatment could be act as a weak point, decreasing the adhesion strength.
Solar flare is one of the energetic phenomena observed on the Sun, and it is often accompanied with eruptions such as global-scale eruption of a flux rope (filament/prominence eruption) and small-scale eruption of a plasmoid. A flare itself is a dissipative phenomenon where accumulated electric current representing free magnetic energy is dissipated quickly at a special location called a current sheet formed in a generally highly conductive solar corona. Previous studies have demonstrated how a solar magnetic field placed on the Sun forms a current sheet when magnetic shear is added to the field. Our study is focused on a self-consistent process of how a subsurface magnetic field emerges into the solar atmosphere and forms a current sheet in the corona. This study also gives light to a relation among a flare and two types of flare-associated eruptions; flux-rope eruption and plasmoid eruption.
