악취제거를 위하여 분리한 황화합물 산화균주의 배양특성 (Characteristics on the Incubation of Sulfur Compound-Oxidizing Strains Separated for the Removal of Malodor)

  • 황화수소 및 메틸머캡탄($CH_3SH$) 또는 DMS($CH_3SCH_3$)와 같은 황화합물들의 악취를 효율적으로 처리하기 위하여 축분으로 오염된 토양으로부터 sodium thiosulfate 또는 유리황과 같은 기질을 이용하여 미생물의 분리 및 동정을 하고 분리된 미생물들의 여러 가지 pH, 배양온도, 산소조건, 기질(황화합물) 농도, 질소원 및 탄소원의 농도 및 배양기 교반속도 등의 배양조건 하에서의 배양특성을 관찰하고 적정배양조건을 구축하였다. KD-1212와 DAH-1056 균주의 최적 pH는 각각 7.0 및 4.0이었으며 최적배양온도는 $30{\sim}35^{\circ}C$ 범위였다. 또한 독립영양미생물인 ED-1138 균주를 다른 오염된 토양에서 분리하였다. 균주를 고정한 바이오필터의 악취처리에 있어서 균주 DAH-1056이 기존 균주 Thiobacillus sp. IW보다 황화수소 제거능이 우수하였다. KD-1212 균주를 이용하여 황화합물의 농도 및 질소원 및 탄소원에 대한 성장특성을 조사한 결과, KD-1212는 sodium thiosulfate의 25 mM 농도에서 성장이 가장 잘되었고, 탄소원으로는 glucose와 maltose를 잘 이용하는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 질소원으로는 yeast extract를 잘 이용하였으며 0.5% 농도에서 성장이 가장 잘 되었다.

Suppressive Effects of Young Radish Cultivated with Sulfur on Growth and Metastasis of B16-F10 Melanoma Cells

  • The oral administration of extracts of young radishes cultivated with sulfur after intravenous tumor cell injection achieved a marked reduction of pulmonary colonization in mice. Treatment of the mice with extracts of young radish cultivated with sulfur did not show any increase in the number of CD8+ or NK T cells in the spleen, indicating no influence on host immunity. Sulforaphane, which could be a candidate for an active compound from young radishes cultivated with sulfur, inhibited cell growth of B16-F10 melanoma cells. In addition, extracts of the young radish cultivated with sulfur-fed group showed enhanced quinine reductase (QR) activities in the liver and lung and a slight increase of glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity in the liver. These results suggested that the administration of extracts of young radishes cultivated with sulfur suppressed pulmonary tumorigenesis, possibly due to increased activity of detoxification enzymes in the liver and lung, and partly due to cell cytotoxicity.

황과 레졸로 가교된 천연고무 가교물의 특성 (Characterization of NR Vulcanizates Cured by Both Sulfur and Resole)

  • 황과 레졸로 가교된 천연고무 배합물의 가황 특성과 가교물의 물리적 특성을 연구하였다. 분자량 분포가 다른 2가지 레졸을 사용하였다. 분자량 분포도가 낮은 레졸이 포함된 배합물의 스코치 시간은 분자량 분포도가 높은 레졸이 포함된 배합물에 비해 빠르다. 레졸 함량이 높은 가교물의 가교밀도는 $95^{\circ}C$ 열노화 후 감소한 반면, 레졸이 없는 가교물의 경우에는 열노화 후 가교 밀도가 증가하였다. 레졸 함량이 높은 가교물의 가교 밀도는 노화 시간이 길어질수록 감소하지만 모듈러스는 증가하고 인장 강도와 인열 강도는 감소한다.

구취환자의 설태, 휘발성 황화합물, 타액분비율 및 타액내 secretory Immunoglobulin A에 대한 평가 (Evaluation on Tongue Coating, Volatile Sulfur Compounds, Salivary Flow Rate and Secretory Immunoglobulin A in Saliva in Patients with Oral Malodor)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to confirm the characteristics of oral malodor patients by evaluating the differences of salivary flow rate, secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) level in saliva between the patient and control groups, and the correlation with the tongue coating, volatile sulfur compound (VSC), salivary flow rate and sIgA level in saliva in the patients group. Methods : Forty-seven patients with oral malodor and twenty healthy volunteers were included in this study. Their tongue coating was assessed with the Winkel tongue coating index, and salivary flow rate, sIgA concentrations in saliva and the level of VSC in oral cavity were measured. Results : There were no significant differences of the salivary flow rate and the sIgA level in saliva between the patient and control groups, but there was a significant relationship between the accumulation of tongue coating and the level of VSC in oral cavity. Conclusions : Our results suggest that tongue coating is closely related to oral malodor, but further studies are needed to confirm the relationship between tongue coating and sIgA level in saliva.

재배 두메부추로부터 추출한 정유의 휘발성 성분 분석 (Volatile Compounds of Essential Oils from Allium senescens L. var. senescens)

  • $Dumebuchu$ ($Allium$ $senescens$ L. var. $senescens$) has a peculiar and long-lasting odor that resembles the flavor of garlic and onions. This study was conducted to examine the volatile compounds of essential oils extracted from $dumebuchu$. The essential oils of $dumebuchu$ were extracted by hydrodistillation using a clavenger-type apparatus and analyzed by GC-MS. A total of 25 compounds were identified in the essential oils from $dumebuchu$. Among sulfur-containing compounds, 4 disulfides and 3 trisulfides were identified. The most abundant sulfur-containing compound was 5-dimethylthiophene (peak area 41.15%) and the second and the third most abundant compound were dipropyl disulfide (18.91%) and propyl allyl disulfide (12.23%), respectively.

  • 철광석 용융환원 공정에서 석탄의 고온열분해시 석탄중에 함유된 황화합물의 거동을 파악하기 위한 기초실험을 수행하였다. 사용된 시료는 역청탄인 호주산 Hunter및 Mt. Thorley와 남아프리카의 Ensham 석탄이며, 반응온도 800~110$0^{\circ}C$ 사이에서 황화합물의 종류와 발생량을 분석하였다. 황함유 가스화할물은 주로 H$_2$S의 형태로 배출되며, COS및 CS$_2$가 미량 배출되었다. 또한 석탄중의 황화합물이 가스 및 타르의 휘발성물질과 석탄촤로 약 50%:50% 정도로 분배되었다.

디메틸니트로자민에 의한 흰쥐의 간독성에 미치는 유기황화합물의 효과 (Effect of Organic Sulfur-Containing Compounds on Hepatotoxicity in Rats Induced by N, N-Dimethylnitrosamine)

  • This study il focused on the hepatopreventive effect in cirrhotic rats induced by N, N -dimethylnitrosamine treatment when organir Lulfur -containing compoundE were orally injected. Biochemical parameters (aspatate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT) alkaline phosphatase (ALP), 1-protein and t-bilirubin) were measured in serum injured liver tissue. The increased AST and ALT values were significantly reduced by organic sulfur-containing compounds at the oral dotes of 50 mg/kg. The result of morphological changes have illustrated the accumulation of liver damages, Each as inflammatory cell accumulation and cirrhosis, caused by N, N-dimethylnitrosamine. Also, it was found that liver damages were prevented by the treatment of organic sulfur- containing compounds.

Effect of Addition of Allium hookeri on the Quality of Fermented Sausage with Meat from Sulfur Fed Pigs during Ripening

  • The effect of the addition of Allium hookeri on the quality of fermented sausage made with meat from sulfur fed pigs was examined, throughout a 60 d ripening period. There were two treatments in animal management: normal feed fed pigs, and sulfur fed pigs given 0.3% sulfur mixed normal feed. Fermented sausage manufactured with meat from normal feed fed pigs, and with meat from sulfur fed pigs, and 1% A. hookeri-containing fermented sausage processed with meat from sulfur fed pigs, were determined at 1 d, 15 d, 30 d, and 60 d. The meat qualities in fermented sausage were measured by DPPH radical scavenging activity (DPPH), $ABTS^+$ radical scavenging activity ($ABTS^+$), total phenolic acids, and total flavonoid contents. Fermented sausage made from pigs that had been fed with 0.3% sulfur was protected from oxidation by reduced free radical, as shown by the significant increase in DPPH and $ABTS^+$ values, compared with fermented sausage made from normal feed fed pigs (p<0.05). A. hookeri-added fermented sausage with sulfur fed pork was shown to increase the values in DPPH, $ABTS^+$, total phenolic acid, and total flavonoid contents, by comparison with both the control sausage, and sausage with sulfur fed pork, at 60 d. These results suggest that A. hookeri in meat from sulfur fed pigs could be a source of natural addition, to increase quality in the food industry.

Thermal Generation and Antimicrobial Activity of Unusual Heterocyclic Sulfur Compounds in Garlic

  • Lowly volatile heterocyclic sulfur compounds generated in autoclaved garlic extract were isolated and identified, and their antimicrobial activity was determined. Two kinds of unusual volatile sulfur compounds were separated from heated garlic by preparative recycling high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and identified by gas chromatography (GC)-mass spectrometry (MS) and $^1H$-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). They had heterocyclic structures with 4 to 5 sulfur atoms in the molecules. 4-Methyl-1,2,3-trithiolane (MTTT) is highly volatile and was not able to be concentrated, and was identified by GCMS only. MTTT and 6-methyl-1,2,3,4,5-pentathiepane (MPTP) are lowly volatile and were obtained in pure states to be positively identified for the first time. All 3 heterocyclic sulfur compounds began to appear by the time when the early-formed diallyl sulfides started to disappear. The minimum inhibitory concentration range of MTTT and MPTP was determined to be between 1 and 6 ppm against all yeasts tested. MTTT and MPTP were lowly volatile and sparingly soluble in water.

바이오필터와 황-석회석을 이용한 단일흐름 공정에서의 질산화와 탈질 연구 (A Study on Nitrification and Denitrification in Biofilter & Sulfur- Limestone Single Stream Process)

  • When denitrification was connected with a single stream process by using biofilter and sulfur-limestone, it was found that such connection enabled highly efficient nitrification without special unit operation of microorganisms or injection of external carbon sources which is being shown in general biological treatment processes. It was observed that in the trickling filter bed, decomposition of organic substances and highly efficient nitrification by both the forced pressure feed trickling and the air fan were simultaneously done. In the denitrification tank where sulfur-limestone was mixed at a certain ratio, limestone was used by autotrophic microorganisms as a source of supply for alkalinity, and nitrate $NO_{3}^{-}$-N was denitrified into nitrogen gas. And in the sulfur-limestone autotrophic denitrification, $NO_{3}^{-}-N\;or\;NO_{2}^{-}-N$ was denitrified as a sulfur compound in reduction state was oxidized into a final output of $SO_{4}^{-2}$. The mean concentration of the discharge water was 8.6 mg/l for T-N and 0.8 mg/l for T-P, respectively, and their mean treatment efficiency was 79.2% and 80.8%, respectively. Implementing highly efficient denitrification without injection of an external organic carbon source or internal return, it is concluded that the proposed process is suitable for a sewerage in a small village with the merits of low power consumption and easy maintenance.
