  • A bistatic radar using the pulse chasing can detect a target to track successive transmitted pulses using a receive beam for effectively scanning the cosite search area. When tracking a transmitted pulse with the receive beam, some beam pointing errors within pulse-to-pulse can cause the timing error in received pulse and the variation of the signal strength. In this paper, we have proposed that some errors due to the receive beam pointing error could limit the MTI filter's performance and derived that the relationship between the MTI performance and the geometric factors which are the inherent properties in bistatic configuration. Through the simulation, we have considered the limitations of the improvement performance restricted by the receiving beam pointing error and confirmed the contribution to the performance improvement in maintaining the receiving beam pointing error of under 0.5 degrees.

  • Digital Video Library System which manages a large amount of multimedia information requires efficient and effective retrieval methods. In this paper, we propose and implement a new video search and retrieval algorithm that compares the query video shot with the video shots in the archives in terms of foreground object, background image, audio, and its context. The foreground object is the region of the video image that has been changed in the successive frames of the shot, the background image is the remaining region of the video image, and the context is the relationship between the low-level features of the adjacent shots. Comparing these features is a result of reflecting the process of filming a moving picture, and it helps the user to submit a query focused on the desired features of the target video clips easily by adjusting their weights in the comparing process. Although the proposed search and retrieval algorithm could not totally reflect the high level semantics of the submitted query video, it tries to reflect the users' requirements as much as possible by considering the context of video clips and by adjusting its weight in the comparing process.

  • The aim of this study is to suggest a detection method of water surface location and its evaluation results of application for same vertical position in two successive images with time interval including both staff gauge and water surface. A specific rectangular inspection area is defined from the top of watermark and then the correlation coefficients for the inspection area of the same position of two images with short time interval is calculated. Accordingly, it is possible to identify differences between changing area and fixed area of pixel density by the water flow. The photographs taken in the laboratory were analyzed in order to validate the proposed technique. As the result of the experiment, it is identified that characteristic of correlation coefficients depends on the size of the inspection area. In the case that the inspection area is within the entire width of the watermark, water surface characteristic according to correlation coefficients is clearly noticeable. Thus, it is identified that the proposed technique can be utilized to search water surfaces. Besides, using corelation analysis of two images with time interval, it is identified that error range between 10 and 42cm was reduced in the level of 2.6cm or less in the contaminated photo of existing image stage gauge. Therefore, it is expected that the suggested method can be utilized to enhance image stage gauge performance improving the previous water surface detection method.

  • The subject is connected with a structure named "The Symbolic" to Lacan, but he denied that the subject is explained simply as a fruit of language and "Other". From his point of view, passing through Subject, De-formation and Crack over it is designated as foundation of generation and creation rather than our destined defect. It should not be understood that subject of "The Real" is a concept of the subject free itself from restraint of "The Symbolic". However, this does not mean he asserts "Subject" is something incapable of being controlled by the unknown power. The problem is that this autonomous existence meets inside of it with something "more than one's own self" by "circulating around itself" like a permanent star. This is the indication of a "stranger in the middle of my privacy", or "extimit$\'{e}$", a coined-word by Lacan. Perhaps "Subject" is nothing more than the name of distance of object which is "too hot" to come close, and of this circulating movement. It's because of this object that the real subject stands against generalization and the subject can't be restored to any place in symbolic order-even though it is empty. The part which is told from Lacan's structural theory, that is to say, an importance to Lacan is that his Subject theory is not suggested or denied as a manual structure. On the contrary, it is a study of the relationship between the settled symbol that included in "real subject which is a unconscious one" and the symbolic subject hold- that is a metaphysical subject in general meaning. In Lacan's enlarged concept of subject beyond symbolic reality, it is noticeable that it gives justifiability to the union of a medium of different nature in artistic expression. We can recognize that the unconscious world is a living space which enables it to be a "condition of human being", not something dark under the surface of water through Magritte's(Rene Magritte, 1898~1967) surrealistic works. In other words, Magritte's art secures a core dimension of human nature through a mysterious gap of conscious and settled space. Magritte's drawings often evokes strange and unsettling feelings in people who view his paintings. This is because routine objects are found in "unsuitable" places from which we usually find them in our everyday lives. "Reality" in Magritte's paintings makes it aware that it is a strained field of concealment and disclosure basically between truths, and we can learn that his behavior to overturn to paint in-visible things is finally an effort to restore the "real subject" to the viewer's reality. In other words, such reversion arouses a nostalgic desire for the objects existing in their original appearance as they are - natural condition that our gaze had not been distorted yet by anamorphic stains. - and the state when we are conscious of them normally. Such desire offers an opportunity for us to get out of mental depression rather than operates to us as an abnormal crack. It's a successive process of effort to search for lost subject and Paradise Lost facing up to reality of subject human that is to be a subject of world and life are ousted from their place by structure and authority of culture.

  • Recently, a great interest of bio-technology(BT) is concentrated and the image analysis technique for electrophoresis gels is highly requested to analyze genetic information or to look for some new bio-activation materials. For this purpose, the location and quantity of each band in a lane should be measured. In most of existing techniques, the approach of peak searching in a profile of a lane is used. But this peak is improper as the representative of a band, because its location does not correspond to that of the brightest pixel or the center of gravity. Also, it is improper to measure band quantity in most of these approaches because various enhancement processes are commonly applied to original images to extract peaks easily. In this paper, we adopt an approach to measure accumulated brightness as a band quantity in each band region, which Is extracted by not using any process of changing relative brightness, and the gravity center of the region is calculated as a band location. Actually, we first extract lanes with an entropy-based threshold calculated on a gel-image histogram. And then, three other methods are proposed and applied to extract bands. In the MER method, peaks and valleys are searched on a vertical search line by which each lane is bisected. And the minimum enclosing rectangle of each band is set between successive two valleys. On the other hand, in the RG-1 method, each band is extracted by using region growing with a peak as a seed, separating overlapped neighbor bands. In the RG-2 method, peaks and valleys are searched on two vertical lines by which each lane is trisected, and the left and right peaks nay be paired up if they seem to belong to the same band, and then each band region is grown up with a peak or both peaks if exist. To compare above three methods, we have measured the location and amount of bands. As a result, the average errors in band location of MER, RG-1, and RG-2 were 6%, 3%, and 1%, respectively, when the lane length is normalized to a unit value. And the average errors in band amount were 8%, 5%, and 2%, respectively, when the sum of band amount is normalized to a unit value. In conclusion, RG-2 was shown to be more reliable in the accuracy of measuring the location and amount of bands.
