The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of the bone morphogenetic protein, bone matrix gelatin and collagen matrix on the amount and shape of generating new bone adjacent to the implant. Implants were inserted in the mandible of adult dogs at 2 months after teeth extraction. Artificial bony defects, 3mm in width and 4mm in depth were made at the mesial and distal side of implant. Experimental groups were divided into three groups ; Group 1 : Defects filled with collagen matrix and bone morphogenetic protein, Group 2 : Defects filled with bone matrix gelatin. Control group : Defects filled with only collagen matrix. After implantation, the animals were sacrificed at 1,3,5 and 10 weeks for light microscopic examination. For the fluorescent microscopic examination. each tertracycline Hcl and calcein were injected at 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10 weeks after implantation. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The molecular weight of bovine BMP was about 18,100 by hydroxyapatite chromatography. 2. Osseointegration was observed in experimental groups 1 & 2, and BMG and BMP had an excellent bone forming capability as a filling materials to the repair of the bone defects. 3. The degree of healing of bone defect area, the experimental group 1 showed more prominent bone formation than control group, and the control group showed fibrous connective tissue between the implant and the bone. 4. In the fluorescent microscopic findings, bone remodelling was observed regenerative lamellar bone at defect area in experimental group 1, and partial remodelling in experimental group 2, In the control group, fibrous connective tissue was observed between the implant and bone surface and sign of remodelling was not apperaed. Above results suggest that BMP has rapid osteoinductive property and can be used clinically as a bone substitute on bone defects around implants.

In this paper, a theoretical weight-reduction method was suggested to substitute an underframe material of a box-type bodyshell having cut-outs with an alternative light-weight material. To utilize the material substitution method previously developed for a box-type hybrid bodyshell not having cut-outs, we derived a box-type baseline model without cut-outs which is similar to the stiffness condition of a box-type bodyshell having cut-outs. To do this, the thicknesses of roof and walls of the baseline model were determined such that the deflection of the baseline model under a distributed vertical load condition is equal to the sum of the theoretical section deflections of the original box model with cut-outs. Next, to derive a hybrid bodyshell by under-frame material substitution, the material substitution method for a box-type hybrid bodyshell without cut-outs was applied to the box-type baseline model. Finally, we compared the FE simulation results of the derived hybrid bodyshells having cut-outs for various materials with the theoretical results of the suggested method, and we obtained their good correlations.

In this paper, the electric properties of mercury Iodide multi-layer samples has been investigated. We measured and analyzed their performance parameters such as the X-ray sensitivity and dark-current for a mercury Iodide multi-layer X-ray detector with a dielectric layer. The digital X-ray image detector can be constructed by integrating photoconduction multi-layer that dielectric layer has characteristics of low dark-current, high X-ray sensitivity. However this process has found to have complexity on the performance of the sample. We have investigate dielectric layer that it substitute dielectric layer for HgO(Mercury Oxide). We have employed two approaches for producing the mercury Iodide sample : 1) Physical Vapor Deposition(PVD) and 2) Particle-In-Binder(PIB). In this paper fabricated by PIB Method with thicknesses ranging from approximately 180um to 240um and we could produce high-quality samples for each technique particular application. As results, the dielectric materials such as HgO between the dielectric layer and the top electrode may reduce the dark-current of the samples. Mercury Iodide multi-layer having HgO has characteristics of low dark-current, high X-ray sensitivity and simple processing. So we can acquired a enhanced signal to noise ratio. In this paper offer the method can reduce the dark-current in the X-ray detector.
As a stator for steam turbine diaphragm, hollow-type nozzle stator to substitute for conventional solid one is introduced in this study. This hollowed stator can be separated into two parts such as upper and lower plates with large and curved surface area. This study focuses on thick plate forming process for the upper plate of the hollow-partitioned nozzle stator. First, to reduce forming defects such as under-cut and localized thinning of the deformed plate, and to avoid tool interruption between forming punch and lower die, tool design including the position determination of forming surfaces is performed. Uni-axial tensile tests are carried out using SUS409L steel plate with initial thickness of 5.00mm, and plastic strain ratio (r-value) is also obtained. Due to the asymmetric curved configuration of the upper plate, it is hard to adopt a series of blank holder or draw-bead, so the initial plate during this thick plate forming experiences unstable and non-uniform contact. To easy this forming difficulty and find suitable tool geometry without sliding behavior of the workpiece in the die cavity, two geometric parameters with respect to each shoulder angle of the lower die and the upper punch are adopted. FE models with consideration of 21 combinations for the geometric parameters are built-up, and numerical simulations are performed. From the simulated and predicted results, it is shown that the geometric parameter combinations with ($30^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$) and ($45^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$) for the shoulder angle of the lower die and the upper punch are suitably applied to this upper plate forming of the hollow-partitioned nozzle stator used for the turbine diaphragm.
In the development of biomaterials as a substitute of hard tissues, the biocompatibility and osteoconductivity of the biomaterial are considered to be one of the most significant considerations. These biological properties of a material can be greatly improved by the modification of the surface properties by the depositing calcium phosphate thin films on the material since calcium phosphate films possess similar chemical compositions to hard tissues. The success of a material as a biomaterial will be determined by the interaction of the surface of the material with the adhesion molecules which induce cellular adhesion and biological responses of the adherent cells. Depending on the adsorption mechanisms and adsorbed conformation of the adhesion molecules on the surface of the biomaterial, cellular responses, such as adhesion, proliferation and differentiation of osteoblast cells, can be promoted or restricted. It has been reported that materials of which surfaces were modified with thin films of calcium phosphate appeared to be more osteoconductive. Rapid formations of bone nodule in addition to higher differentiations of osteoblast have been observed on the calcium phosphate thin films.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the cutting efficiency of a newly developed microprojection tip and a diamond-coated tip under two different engine powers. Materials and Methods: The apical 3 mm of each root was resected, and root-end preparation was performed with upward and downward pressure using one of the ultrasonic tips, KIS-1D (Obtura Spartan) or JT-5B (B&L Biotech Ltd.). The ultrasonic engine was set to power-1 or -4. Forty teeth were randomly divided into four groups: K1 (KIS-1D / Power-1), J1 (JT-5B / Power-1), K4 (KIS-1D / Power-4), and J4 (JT-5B / Power-4). The total time required for root-end preparation was recorded. All teeth were resected and the apical parts were evaluated for the number and length of cracks using a confocal scanning micrscope. The size of the root-end cavity and the width of the remaining dentin were recorded. The data were statistically analyzed using two-way analysis of variance and a Mann-Whitney test. Results: There was no significant difference in the time required between the instrument groups, but the power-4 groups showed reduced preparation time for both instrument groups (p < 0.05). The K4 and J4 groups with a power-4 showed a significantly higher crack formation and a longer crack irrespective of the instruments. There was no significant difference in the remaining dentin thickness or any of the parameters after preparation. Conclusions: Ultrasonic tips with microprojections would be an option to substitute for the conventional ultrasonic tips with a diamond coating with the same clinical efficiency.

Objective: This study was conducted to find an optimal condition for the vitrification of mouse morulae and expanded blastocysts. Materials and Methods: Mouse embryos were obtained at 2-cell stage and cultured to morula and expanded blastocyst stage in Human Tubal Fluid (HTF) medium supplemented with 10% Serum Substitute Supplement (SSS). The vitrification solutions used were EFS30, EFS35 and EFS40 that contains 30%, 35% and 40% ethylene glycol, respectively, with 18% ficoll and 0.5 M sucrose diluted in Dulbecco's phosphate-buffered saline (DPBS) medium supplemented with 10% SSS. The vitrification procedure was performed in EFS solution with three steps, followed by thawing in 6 steps with 0.5 M sucrose, and then survival and hatching-hatched rate per embryos recovered were compared among six groups. Results: After 24 h culture in different vitrification and thawing solution, the survival rate of morula embryos was 94.1%, 85.4% and 59.7% for EFS30, EFS35 and EFS40 group, respectively. Hatching rate of morula embryos after 72 h culture was 30.6%, 25% and 11.3% for EFS30, EFS35 and EFS40 group, respectively. The survival rate of expanded blastocyst embryos after 24 h culture was 90.4%, 98.5% and 100% for EFS30, EFS35 and EFS40 group, respectively. Hatching rate of expanded blastocyst embryos after 48 h culture was 46.2%, 57.6% and 64.3% for EFS30, EFS35 and EFS40 group, respectively. Conclusion: The EFS30 solution was the best for vitrification of mouse morulae. The EFS40 solution was the best for vitrification of mouse expanded blastocysts. The mouse expanded blastocyst was better than mouse morula for vitrification of mouse embryos.
Electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLCs) which are fabricated using carbon based electrodes have been emerging at an alarming rate to fulfill the energy demand in the present day world. Activated charcoal has been accepted as a very suitable candidate for electrodes but its cost is higher than natural graphite. Present study is about fabrication of EDLCs using composite electrodes with activated charcoal and Sri Lankan natural graphite as well as a gel polymer electrolyte which is identified as a suitable substitute for liquid electrolytes. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, Cyclic Voltammetry and Galvanostatic Charge Discharge test were done to evaluate the performance of the fabricated EDLCs. Amount of activated charcoal and natural graphite plays a noticeable role on the capacity. 50 graphite : 40 AC : 10 PVdF showed the optimum single electrode specific capacity value of 15 F/g. Capacity is determined by the cycling rate as well as the potential window within which cycling is being done. Continuous cycling resulted an average single electrode specific capacity variation of 48 F/g - 16 F/g. Capacity fading was higher at the beginning. Later, it dropped noticeably. Initial discharge capacity drop under Galvanostatic Charge Discharge test was slightly fast but reached near stable upon continuous charge discharge process. It can be concluded that initially some agitation is required to reach the maturity. However, the results can be considered as encouraging to initiate studies on EDLCs using Sri Lankan natural graphite.

Objectives: Aim of this study was to evaluate bone regenerative efficacy of a chemically cross-linked porcine collagen membrane (CM) when used in combination with highly soluble biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP). Materials and methods: Physiochemical properties of the experimental collagen membrane were analyzed. Four circumferential defects with diameter of 8 mm were created in each calvarium of New Zealand white rabbits (n = 10). Defects were randomly allocated to one of following 4 groups: 1) BCP-CM (BCP (20% hydroxyapatite/80% ${\beta}$-tricalcium phosphate) covered with the prepared collagen membrane), 2) BCP (only BCP used), 3) CM (only the prepared collagen membrane used), and 4) C (control; only blood clot). After 2 weeks (n = 5) and 8 weeks (n = 5), histologic and histomorphometric analyses were performed. Results: The experimental collagen membrane exhibited dense and compact structure, relatively high tensile strength and lower degradability. Histologic analyses revealed that new bone increased rapidly at 2 weeks, while defect was preserved at 8 weeks. Histomorphometric analyses revealed that the new bone areas increased in the BCP-grafted groups over 8 weeks, with BCP-CM exhibiting greater total augmented area than that of BCP group both at 2 weeks ($27.12{\pm}3.99$ versus $21.97{\pm}2.27mm^2$) and 8 weeks ($25.75{\pm}1.82$ versus $22.48{\pm}1.10mm^2$) (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The experimental collagen membrane successfully preserved localized defect for 8 weeks despite early rapid resorption of BCP. Within the study limitations, combined use of the chemically cross-linked porcine collagen membrane and highly soluble BCP aided localized bone regeneration.

To check effects of operating variables on reaction characteristics of WGS catalyst for SEWGS process, water gas shift reaction tests were carried out in a pressurized fluidized bed reactor using commercial WGS catalyst and sand(as a substitute for $CO_2$ absorbent) as bed materials. Simulated syngas(mixed with $N_2$) was used as a reactant gas. Operating temperature was $210^{\circ}C$ and operating pressure was 20 bar. WGS catalyst content, steam/CO ratio, gas velocity, and syngas concentration were considered as experimental variables. CO conversion increased as the catalyst content and steam/CO ratio increased. CO conversion at fluidized bed condition was higher than that of fixed bed condition. However, CO conversion were maintained almost same value within the fluidized bed condition. CO conversion decreased as the syngas concentration increased. The optimum operation condition was confirmed and long time water gas shift reaction test up to 24 hours at the optimum operating conditions was carried out.
