A subspace-based identification method of the Wiener model, consisting of a state-space linear block and a polynomial static nonlinearity at the output, is used to retrieve from discrete sample data the accurate information about the nonlinear dynamics. Wiener model may be incorporated into model predictive control (MPC) schemes in a unique way which effectively removes the nonlinearity from the control problem, preserving many of the favorable properties of linear MPC. The control performance is evaluated with simulation studies where the original first-principles model for a continuous MMA polymerization reactor is used as the true process while the identified Wiener model is used for the control purpose. On the basis of the simulation results, it is demonstrated that, despite the existence of unmeasured disturbance, the controller performed quite satisfactorily for the control of polymer qualities with constraints.
Speech is much influenced by the existence of outliers which are introduced by such an unexpected happenings as additive background noise, change of speaker's utterance pattern and voice detection errors. These kinds of outliers may result in severe degradation of speaker recognition performance. In this paper, we proposed the GMM based on robust principal component analysis (RPCA-GMM) using M-estimation to solve the problems of both ouliers and high dimensionality of training feature vectors in speaker identification. Firstly, a new feature vector with reduced dimension is obtained by robust PCA obtained from M-estimation. The robust PCA transforms the original dimensional feature vector onto the reduced dimensional linear subspace that is spanned by the leading eigenvectors of the covariance matrix of feature vector. Secondly, the GMM with diagonal covariance matrix is obtained from these transformed feature vectors. We peformed speaker identification experiments to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. We compared the proposed method (RPCA-GMM) with transformed feature vectors to the PCA and the conventional GMM with diagonal matrix. Whenever the portion of outliers increases by every 2%, the proposed method maintains almost same speaker identification rate with 0.03% of little degradation, while the conventional GMM and the PCA shows much degradation of that by 0.65% and 0.55%, respectively This means that our method is more robust to the existence of outlier.
This paper presents a vibration displacement measurement and damage identification method for a space truss structure from its vibration videos. Features from Accelerated Segment Test (FAST) algorithm is combined with adaptive threshold strategy to detect the feature points of high quality within the Region of Interest (ROI), around each node of the truss structure. Then these points are tracked by Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi (KLT) algorithm along the video frame sequences to obtain the vibration displacement time histories. For some cases with the image plane not parallel to the truss structural plane, the scale factors cannot be applied directly. Therefore, these videos are processed with homography transformation. After scale factor adaptation, tracking results are expressed in physical units and compared with ground truth data. The main operational frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes are identified by using Subspace Stochastic Identification (SSI) from the obtained vibration displacement responses and compared with ground truth data. Structural damages are quantified by elemental stiffness reductions. A Bayesian inference-based objective function is constructed based on natural frequencies to identify the damage by model updating. The Success-History based Adaptive Differential Evolution with Linear Population Size Reduction (L-SHADE) is applied to minimise the objective function by tuning the damage parameter of each element. The locations and severities of damage in each case are then identified. The accuracy and effectiveness are verified by comparison of the identified results with the ground truth data.

This paper presents an on-line finite element model updating method for in-service structures using measured data. Conventional updating methods, which are based on numerical optimization, are not efficient for on-line updating because they generally require repeated eigenvalue analyses until convergence criteria are met. The proposed method enables fully automated on-line finite element model updating, almost simultaneously with vibration measurement, without any user intervention or off-line procedures. The automated covariance-driven stochastic subspace identification (Cov-SSI) method is utilized to identify modal frequencies and vectors, and the identified modal data is fed to the neural network of the inverse eigenvalue function to produce the updated finite element model parameters. Numerical examples for a wind excited 20-story building structure shows that the proposed method can update the series of finite element model parameters automatically. It is also shown that sudden changes in the structural parameters can be detected and traced successfully.

In this paper, We described the method which developed the optimal control system for air separation unit to change production rates frequently and rapidly. Control models of the process were developed from actual plant data using subspace identification method which is developed by many researchers in resent years. The model consist of a series connection of linear dynamic block and static nonlinear block (Wiener model). The model is controlled by model based predictive controller. In MPC the input is calculated by on-line optimization of a performance index based on predictions by the model, subject to possible constraints. To calculate the optimal the performance index, conditions are expressed by LMI(Linear Matrix Inequalities). In order to access at the Bailey DCS system, we applied the OPC server and developed the Client program. The OPC sever is a device which can access Bailey DCS system. The Client program is developed based on the Matlab language for easy calculation, data simulation and data logging. Using this program, we can apply the optimal input to the DCS system at real time.

Operational Modal Analysis also known as Output Only Modal Analysis has in the recent years been used for extracting modal parameters of civil engineering structures and is now becoming popular for mechanical structures. The advantage of the method is that no artificial excitation need to be applied to the structure or force signals to be measured. All the parameter estimation is based upon the response signals, thereby minimising the work of preparation for the test. This test case is a controlled lab set-up enabling different parameter estimation methods techniques to be used and compared to the Operational Modal Analysis. For Operational Modal Analysis two different estimation techniques are used: a non-parametric technique based on Frequency Domain Decomposition (FDD), and a parametric technique working on the raw data in time domain, a data driven Stochastic Subspace Identification (SS!) algorithm. These are compared to other methods such as traditional Modal Analysis.

In this study, two kinds of smart accelerometers are investigated for the application of smart sensors to the structural health monitoring of infrastructures. Smart optical Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) type and Micro-Electo-Mechanical System (MEMS) type accelerometers are selected for this study and the high sensitive ICP type accelerometer is used for the reference sensor. Small size shaking table tests were performed with 3-story shear building model using random input ground motions. The output only modal identification was carried out using stochastic subspace identification and the performances of sensors are compared in modal domain indirectly. The modal sensitivity method was applied to update the story stiffness of numerical model and the updated results were verified using the additional experiments for the same structure with additional mass.

The aim of this study is to determine the dynamic characteristics of long reinforced concrete highway bridges with post-tension tendons using analytical and experimental methods. It is known that the deck length and height of bridges are affected the dynamic characteristics considerably. For this purpose, Berta Bridge constructed in deep valley, in Artvin, Turkey, is selected as an application. The Bridge has two piers with height of 109.245 m and 85.193 m, and the total length of deck is 340.0 m. Analytical and experimental studies are carried out on Berta Bridge which was built in accordance with the balanced cantilever method. Finite Element Method (FEM) and Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) which considers ambient vibration data were used in analytical and experimental studies, respectively. Finite element model of the bridge is created by using SAP2000 program to obtain analytical dynamic characteristics such as the natural frequencies and mode shapes. The ambient vibration tests are performed using Operational Modal Analysis under wind and human loads. Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition (EFDD) and Stochastic Subspace Identification (SSI) methods are used to obtain experimental dynamic characteristics like natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios. At the end of the study, analytical and experimental dynamic characteristic are compared with each other and the finite element model of the bridge was updated considering the material properties and boundary conditions. It is emphasized that Operational Modal Analysis method based on the ambient vibrations can be used safely to determine the dynamic characteristics, to update the finite element models, and to monitor the structural health of long reinforced concrete highway bridges constructed with the balanced cantilever method.
Damping ratio and frequency have influence on dynamic serviceability or instability such as vortex-induced vibration and displacement amplification due to earthquake and critical flutter velocity, and it is thus important to make determination of damping ratio and frequency accurate. As bridges are getting longer, small scale model test considering similitude law must be conducted to evaluate damping ratio and frequency. Analysis conditions modified by similitude law are applied to experimental test considering different scale ratios. Generally, Nyquist frequency condition based on natural frequency modified by similitude law has been used to determine sampling rate for different scale ratios, and total time length has been determined by users arbitrarily or by considering similitude law with respect to time for different scale ratios. However, Nyquist frequency condition is not suitable for multimode system with noisy signals. In addition, there is no specified criteria for determination of total time length. Those analysis conditions severely affect accuracy of damping ratio. The focus of this study is made on the determination of minimum analysis conditions for different scale ratios. Influence of signal to noise ratio is studied according to the level of noise level. Free initial value problem is proposed to resolve the condition that is difficult to know original initial value for free vibration. Ambient and free vibration tests were used to analyze the dynamic properties of a system using data collected from tests with a two degree-of-freedom section model and performed on full bridge 3D models of cable stayed bridges. The free decay is estimated with the stochastic subspace identification method that uses displacement data to measure damping ratios under noisy conditions, and the iterative least squares method that adopts low pass filtering and fourth order central differencing. Reasonable results were yielded in numerical and experimental tests.
