  • In order to investigate the diverse physicochemical changes that occurred in traditional Korean pottery during its production, including before and after firing, this study produced six replicas of a celadon maebyeong inlaid with cloud-and-crane designs, respectively corresponding to the process of shaping, carving, inlaying designs, first firing, glazing and second firing, respectively. It then conducted a scientific study of these six replicas and analyzed their images through high-resolution three-dimensional transmission imaging. The materials used for the replicas show different mineral phases and even colors depending on the components of each material. For example, black inlay with a high content of iron oxide (Fe2O3) shows dark colors and white inlay with a high alumina (Al2O3) content appears white. Physicochemical properties such as chromaticity and magnetic susceptibility and major components of the replicas were confirmed by the differences in the density in the computed tomography (CT) images. The characteristics of fired products such as fine structure, absorption ratio, apparent porosity, and other characteristics of the major mineral components were identified by the presence of pores and the formation of cracks inside the replicas in the image analysis.

  • In this study, it was expected that long-term stability against external mechanical external force could be secured if the phosphor layer had ductility. In this study, a bendable $Gd_2O_2S:Tb$ sensitized paper was fabricated by screen printing method and the image uniformity was evaluated through RMS analysis and histogram analysis to investigate the effect of fatigue accumulation due to long-term external force and repetitive external force. As a result, the dominant pixel area is maintained constant and the relative standard deviation is less than 10% for the long-term external force. However, for the repetitive external force, the dominant pixel area is divided into three areas and the image uniformity is adversely affected. Based on these results, it is suggested that the curved surface detector can be applied by securing the mechanical stability against the existing radiation sensitized paper. However, further studies are needed to apply it to the flexible detector. As a result, flexible radiation sensitizers can be applied to various curved surfaces, and it is expected to be applicable to various fields such as nuclear medicine, medical treatment, and industrial fields in the future.

  • During X-ray examinations in the DR system, the scattered X-rays physically generated by the patient cause image blurring in poor quality. Although X-rays to increase the contrast of images, this increases the patient's exposure dose and is likely to result in grid induced artifacts. Therefore, the purpose of this study is obtain images similar to those of real-grid with non-grid level conditions using a VGR (Virtual Grid Role) algorithm that serves as a virtual grid. Comparing MTF, SNR and CNR of non-grid and VGR algorithm images obtained with 70% exposure conditions of real-grid images showed that the MTF0.5 differed from 0.265 to 0.350 and the MTF0.1 from 0.412 to 0.467 and the SNR, CNR were also different. In addition, comparing MTF, SNR and CNR of VGR algorithm and real-grid images showed that the MTF0.5 differed from 0.350 to 0.367 and the MTF0.1 from 0.467 to 0.483 and the SNR, CNR by little.

  • This paper proposes a novel method to detect unauthorized copies of digital images. This copy detection scheme can be used as either an alternative approach or a complementary approach to watermarking. A test image is reduced to 8$\times$8 sub-image by intensity averaging, and the AC coefficients of its discrete cosine transform (DCT) are used to compute distance from those generated from the query image, of which a user wants to find copies. Copies may be Processed to avoid copy detection or enhance image quality. We show ordinal measure of DCT coefficients, which is based on relative ordering of AC magnitude values and using distance metrics between two rank permutations, are robust to various modifications of the original image. The optimal threshold selection scheme using the maximum a posteriori (MAP) criterion is also addressed.

  • Multi-Instance Learning(MIL) performs well to deal with inherently ambiguity of images in multimedia retrieval. In this paper, an effective framework for Contented-Based Image Retrieval(CBIR) with MIL techniques is proposed, the effective mechanism is based on the image segmentation employing improved Mean Shift algorithm, and processes the segmentation results utilizing mathematical morphology, where the goal is to detect the semantic concepts contained in the query. Every sub-image detected is represented as a multiple features vector which is regarded as an instance. Each image is produced to a bag comprised of a flexible number of instances. And we apply a few number of MIL algorithms in this framework to perform the retrieval. Extensive experimental results illustrate the excellent performance in comparison with the existing methods of CBIR with MIL.

  • This paper is concerned with the measurement of low-frequency vibrations of structures using the image processing method. To measure the vibrations visually, the measurement system consists of a camera, an image grabber board, and a computer. The specific target installed on the structure is used to calculate the vibration of structure. The captured image is then converted into a pixel-based data and then analyzed numerically. The limitation of the system depends on the image capturing speed and the size of image. In this paper, we discuss the methodology for the vibration measurement using the image processing method. The method enables us to measure the displacement directly without any contact. The resolution of the vibration measurement can be refined but limited to the sub centimeter displacement.

  • An omni-directional, graded-index and textured ZnO nanorods with $MgF_2$ anti-reflective(AR) coating films for the electro optical tracking system(EOTS) by e-beam evaporation method are presented. we achieved that the graded index structure can minimize image tracking interference of EOTS which is comparable to a general AR coating films. Optimized ZnO nanorods with $MgF_2$ AR coating films lead to decreasing Fresnel reflection by gradient refractive index. According to our experiment results, ZnO nanorods with $MgF_2$ AR coating films can be used for various electro optical system to improve the optical performance.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify volume changes and dose variations of rectum and bladder during radiation therapy in prostate cancer (PC) patients. Materials and Methods: We analyzed 20 patients with PC treated with helical tomotherapy. Daily image guidance was performed. We re-contoured the entire bladder and rectum including its contents as well as the organ walls on megavoltage computed tomography once a week. Dose variations were analyzed by means of Dmedian, Dmean, Dmax, V10 to V75, as well as the organs at risk (OAR) volume. Further, we investigated the correlation between volume changes and changes in Dmean of OAR. Results: During treatment, the rectal volume ranged from 62% to 223% of its initial volume, the bladder volume from 22% to 375%. The average Dmean ranged from 87% to 118% for the rectum and 58% to 160% for the bladder. The Pearson correlation coefficients between volume changes and corresponding changes in Dmean were -0.82 for the bladder and 0.52 for the rectum. The comparison of the dose wall histogram (DWH) and the dose volume histogram (DVH) showed that the DVH underestimates the percentage of the rectal and bladder volume exposed to the high dose region. Conclusion: Relevant variations in the volume of OAR and corresponding dose variations can be observed. For the bladder, an increase in the volume generally leads to lower doses; for the rectum, the correlation is weaker. Having demonstrated remarkable differences in the dose distribution of the DWH and the DVH, the use of DWHs should be considered.
