  • This study aimed to investigate the high school students' conceptions about the plate tectonics through visual representation. For this purpose, the subjects were 67 students in 11th-grade high schools in Chungbuk. In order to in-depth understand the students' conceptions about plate tectonics, so the investigator conducted a semi-structured interview. The conclusions were as in the following. After learning the plate tectonics, the students had the alternative conceptions associated with terminology, colors' meanings, plate-related melting, plate's movement, plates' boundaries, mantle's physical conditions, driving forces for plate movement, and they had the organic relations about colors' meanings, mantle's physical conditions, and driving forces of plate movement. Also, the visual representation used to teach plate tectonics influenced on the students' responses about terminology, plates' boundaries, plate-related melting and the mantle's physical features, also this study found the factors of visual representation causing the learners to create alternative conceptions. These results implicated the importance of teacher's role in identifying the students' interpretation process on visual representation, and it needed to improve the factors creating students' alternative conceptions about visual representation and to study the factors further.

  • Purpose: To identify effects of menstrual attitude, premenstrual syndrome, and stress response on quality of life of nursing students. Methods: Subjects were 135 nursing students who agreed to participate in this study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Premenstrual syndrome, younger than 20 years of age, and habit of eating bland food in everyday life were factors influencing quality of life of nursing students. These factors accounted for 17.6% of quality of life. Premenstrual syndrome toward quality of life was the most influential factor. Conclusion: Premenstrual syndrome is the most significant factor affecting the quality of life of nursing students. To increase their quality of life, it is important to develop and apply educational programs using factors influencing quality of life of the nursing students. Results of this study will be useful as basic data for improving quality of life of nursing students. Additional study is needed to test its effect in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the health promoting behavior of university students and its related factors. A self-administered questionnaire survey was carried out for 1,031(male, 477, female, 554) students from 7 universities in Taegu from March 10 to April 15 2000. Collected data were analyzed by the $X^2$-test, t-test, ANOV A and structural equation modeling analysis. The results of this study were as follows; Mean score of health promoting behavior of women was higher than mean score of men(p〈0.01). According to the subordinate fields, female students showed significantly higher scores in the fields of stress management, nutrition, personal relations and alcohol-cigarette(p〈0.05). And in male students, the only fields of exercise had meaningfully higher score(p〈0.01). The highest degree of performance was marked in alcohol-cigarette field in female, and interpersonal field in male. In Both male and female students, the lowest field was health responsibility. The mean score of health promoting behavior showed significant differences in intermediating factors such as age, health education and grade in male, and such as grade, pocket money for a month, taking health education, perceived body shape and gastrointestinal symptoms in female(p〈0.05). The mean score of health promoting behavior showed significant differences in cognitive-perceptual factors and cues to action such as perceived health status, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and health concern of parents in both male and female(p〈0.05). By the results of structural equation modeling analysis in male students, the economic status, gastrointestinal symptoms and perceived body shape as lean had significant direct effects on cognitive-perceptual factors($\mid$T$\mid$〉2.0). Grade and health concern of parents had significant direct effects on health promotion behaviors($\mid$T$\mid$〉2.0). In female students, perceived body shape as lean and perceived body shape as fat had significant direct effects on cognitive-perceptual factors($\mid$T$\mid$〉2.0). Grade, pocket money and health concern of parents had significant direct effects on health promotion behaviors($\mid$T$\mid$〉2.0). On the consideration of above findings, it is recommended that perceived health status and perceived benefits should be raised and perceived barriers should be lowered to increase health promoting behaviors, by means such as institutional approach which can enhance the primary prevention for a disease. In addition, the health policy for improving parents' concern about health as well as university students, through various ways such as health education, consulting, and health program, should be employed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors which influence freshmen nursing students' problem solving abilities. Method: The data were collected from 119 students by means of self-reported questionnaires measuring problem solving abilities, critical thinking disposition, and self-directed learning, on March 7th and 11th, 2010. Result: For problem solving ability categories, the level of problem discovery was the highest followed by solution plan, problem definition, solution evaluation and solution implementation. The influencing factors on problem solving abilities of nursing students were critical thinking disposition, self-directed learning and gender. Conclusion: Using the results of this study as a foundation, nursing education curriculum should be comprised of critical thinking skills and self-directed skills for the improvement of nursing students' problem solving abilities. It is also recommended that further studies be conducted in order to investigate comprehensive curriculum designs that allow for maximum accumulation of these proficiencies.

Data were collected from December 6 to December 13, 2012. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlational coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS WIN v 20.0. Result: The mean scores of ego-identity ($3.53{\pm}48$), social problem-solving ability ($3.41{\pm}.42$), and college life adjustment ($5.27{\pm}.91$) were above average. College life adjustment was significantly different according to ego-identity, academic performance, and perceived health state. Ego-identity, academic performance, and perceived health state were influencing factors of college life adjustment (53.2%). Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an education program to improve ego-identity, academic performance, and perceived health state to help nursing students to adjust to their college life more effectively.

  • Information revolution shifted the meaning of education from traditional face-to-face education to technology integrated virtual one, namely cyber education. A new way of education, however, has not constituted its methodological standards either performance measurement scheme. The study probes the critical factors that influence students' achievement and satisfaction especially in the cyber education environment. Using hierarchical regression, important factors for students' achievement and satisfaction in the management education environment are presented. The results indicate that students' individual characteristics are relatively less influential for cyber education success. Rather, institutional supports including provision of in-depth interaction among students and with the instructor are more critical. We can infer that cyber education essentially requires three factors: in-depth interactions with instructor collaborative environment among peer students technical support from the institution.

  • Purpose. This study was conducted to understand the degree of internet addiction tendency and to find out the factors influencing this addiction tendency among middle school students in Gyeong-buk area. Methods. A total of 450 middle school students in the Daegu and Gyeong-buk area were surveyed in this study. Data collection was conducted through the use of questionnaires. Results. Internet addiction among middle school students was relatively low (Average user). In the overall ratio distribution, however, students who were classified as either addicted or at risk of addiction accounted for a high percentage, 27%. A positive correlation was found between Internet addiction and Internet expectation, depression and parent control over Internet use. A negative correlation was found between Internet addiction and interpersonal relationship, parent support and self-control. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of Internet addiction tendency was depression. Conclusion. Through the above results, it would be necessary to develop an Internet addiction prevention program for adolescents taking into account for the psychological factors such as depression and Internet use habits. In the future study, the need assessment will be useful for developing this prevention program.
