Methods: Subjects were 405 nursing students (female : male = 385 : 20, first grade = 155, second grade = 138, third grade = 112). They were given the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire (SACQ) purchased from Western Psychological Service. SACQ is composed of 67 questions and subdivided into 4 subcategories: academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment, and attachment. Student college adaptation scores and academic achievements were analyzed with reference to the entrance selection system (rolling admission vs. regular admission) by SPSS 22.0. The rolling admission system recruited students based on high school records only while the regular admission system was based on both high school records and the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT). Results: Total College adaptation score, personal-emotional adjustment score, and academic achievement were higher in regular-admission students than in those admitted through rolling admission. Academic achievement for first-grade students was higher in regular-admission students than for those admitted through rolling admission, But the difference in academic achievement became null as students were promoted to the second and third grades. Conclusion: Students recruited using both high school records and the CSAT showed better college adaptation and higher academic achievement.

As the result of this study, there showed significant difference in the academic achievement in proportion as the level of internal and external academic achievement motivation (P<.001). the students with the higher internal motivation and the lower external motivation turned out to have the highest effect of academic achievement; on the other hand, the students with the lower internal motivation and the higher external motivation showed the least academic achievement. There was 11.60 points-difference on the average between those two groups in terms of grade. The academic achievement and the internal motivation shows significant correlation(r=.25, P<.001) while academic achievement and the external motivation presents negative tendency (r=-.10). Through the results of regression analysis, the estimation of the academic achievement by the two variables to academic achievement motivation was 6.22%(P=.0001)

  • It is crucial to understand the characteristics of learner questioning due to the effects it has on learning. This study focuses on the effects of middle school students questioning on their academic achievement in an online inquiry learning environment. A survey of 827 middle school students was conducted; the students took part in an online math and science program offered by a center for the gifted. Throughout the survey, learner questioning was analyzed, and its correlation with academic achievement was investigated. An analysis was based on questioning categories of a low- and high-level questions from previous studies. Through the survey, it was found that the number of learner questions asked in the online environment was small, but the number of low- and high-level questions were almost equal. Secondly, the higher the academic achievement level of the student, the higher the possibility they would ask either low- or high-level questions. Lastly the group of students in both low- and high-levels of questioning earned the highest average scores on formative evaluations and inquiry tasks. This indicates that regardless of the level of questions, the act of questioning itself is highly related to the academic achievement. However, in the case of advanced learning projects, the quality of questioning and high-level questioning affected the academic achievement of students. Based on these results, implications for the encouragement of learner questioning and support for asking high-level question are suggested.

The purpose of this study is to investigate relations among overuse of internet and cellular phone and academic achievement with middle school students according to their sex and grade. For this purpose, the survey consist of 44-item, self-administered paper-and-pencil questionnaire from 444 two middle schools students located in Busan. Also, their academic achievements were used for statistical data processing. As a result, firstly, middle school students did not tend to be so seriously addicted to the internet and cellular phones. The internet was used more by male students and cellular phones by female students, and the more male and female students used the internet, the higher they tended to use the cellular phones. There was a negative correlation between the tendency of internet use and academic achievement, but there were no significant differences between genders. In terms of the tendency of using cellular phones and academic achievement, there were no correlations among male students, but there was a negative correlation in female counterparts. Secondly, in terms of grade, the 2nd-grade students had a higher tendency to use both of them than the 1st- and 3rd-grade counterparts. The tendency of using the internet and cellular phones, in each grade had significantly static correlation and the higher they tended to use the internet, the lower they had academic achievement the 3rd-grade. • The main purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between perceived the authoritarian parenting style and academic achievement among college students. Specifically, it is hypothesized that authoritarian parenting would indirectly affect the academic achievement of college students through self-differentiation level and career decision-making self-efficacy. 283 college students, after the consideration of their grade and gender, were selected for this study as participants. Methods describing the primary analytical technique of Structural Equation Modeling were used for the study. The results demonstrate that an authoritarian parenting style negatively affected the academic achievement of college students. There are mediation effects of self-differentiation and career decision-making self-efficacy between the perceived authoritarian parenting style and academic achievement among college students. The findings imply that the positive development of adult children requires more egalitarian parenting styles than those used on early adolescents. Next, for female students, specialized career counseling programs focusing on reducing psychological career barriers and career stress are needed. Lastly, it is implied that parenting styles used on adult children in Korea may differ from Western styles. Therefore, it may be difficult to explain the relationship between parents and adult children with a traditional theoretical framework.
