This paper is a presentation of a physical model for the elastic-partly plastic behavior of rectangular hollow section pinned struts subjected to static cyclic axial loading and the evaluation of the compressive strength of retrofitted damaged struts. Retrofitting is achieved by welding stiffening plates along the webs of damaged struts. The shape of the elastic and permanent deformations of the strut axis satisfy the conditions at the ends and midspan. Continuous functions of the geometric variables of stress distributions in the yielded zone are evaluated by interpolation between three points along each partly plastic zone. Permanent deformations of the partly plastic region are computed and used to update the shape of the unloaded strut. The necessity of considering geometric nonlinearity is discussed. The sensitivity of the results to the location of interpolation points, the shape of the permanent deformation and material hysteretic properties is investigated.

Purpose: Most surgeons have used autogenous cartilage for columella strut graft. But the supply of autogenous cartilage is often limited. So, this study is to investigate the usefulness of biodegradable plate as columella strut material. Methods: We studied 19 patients who have secondary cleft nasal deformity. Patients were divided into two groups. Group A patients who were not closed their growth plate underwent columella strut graft only with biodegradable plate through endonasal approach. The biodegradable plate was inserted between nasal tip and anterior nasal spine. Group B patients were closed their growth plate. They had an operation for columella strut graft with biodegradable plate fixed with autogenous conchal cartilage. If nasal tip projection was insufficient, we performed additionally onlay graft on nasal tip with autogenous soft tissue or remnant cartilage. Results: As a result of mean 14 months follow-up, we achieved a good nasal tip projection, narrowing of interalar distance and symmetrical nostril shape. No specific complications were reported except 2 cases, which were the extrusion of biodegradable plate into the nasal cavity and Staphylococcus aureus infection. Conclusion: The columella strut graft using biodegradable plate is simple and effective method. Biodegradable plate can be a good substitute for columella strut in patients who can not use autogenous cartilages.
Most of studies for landing gear have been performed to analyze the shock absorbing characteristics of oleo-pneumatic struts. But it is not easy to solve the dynamic specific properties of spring type composite landing gear using a present method. The shock absorbing abilities of oleo-pneumatic landing gear strut are under influence of the internal design method on the strut rather than the landing gear structure itself. Unlike oleo type, spring type composite strut absorbs the shock with structural strength and dynamic characteristics of the strut's material and shape. The tests and analysis for the shock absorbing rate and dynamic behavior of the spring type composite fixed landing gear for 4 seats small aircraft, have been performed using landing gear drop test rig.

Preloading Strut applied during installation of the wall jack, but additionally serves to minimize the displacement of soil pressure acting upon dissolution due to the difficulty. In this study, we developed an index of support for the release of stress to facilitate the dismantling of the strut uninstall. The refractive support the axial force acting on the strut are supportable, is refracted at minimum load, disassembly should be easy. In order to find the optimal shape and structural stability of the refractive support We have performed the numerical analysis and performance test to determine the final model. We carried out model tests and UTM test in order to understand the refractive performance and durability of the refractive support for optimal model. Results of the test UTM is refracted all shot 5 times within a target hit number, it was found that there is no problem of the refractive performance. Further, the results of model experiments, it was found that to ensure sufficient durability more than the performance target value of the pin joint support structure.
This paper reports experimental investigation on shear behavior of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) shallow floor beam, where the steel shape is embedded in concrete and the high strength bolts are used to transfer the shear force along the interface between the steel shape and concrete. Six specimens were conducted aiming to provide information on shear performance and explore the shear bearing capacity of SRC shallow floor beams. The effects of the height of concrete slab, the size and the type of the steel section on shear performance of beams were also analyzed in the test. Based on the strut-and-tie model, the shear strength of the SRC shallow floor beam was proposed. Experimental results showed that composite shallow floor beam exhibited satisfactory composite behavior and all of the specimen failed in shear failure. The shear bearing capacity increased with the increasing of height of concrete slab and the size of steel shape, and the bearing capacities of beam specimens with castellated steel shape was slightly lower than those of specimens with H-shaped steel section. Furthermore, the calculations for evaluating the shear bearing capacity of SRC shallow floor beam were verified to be reasonable.

In this paper, the strengthening analysis by strut-tie model for strengthened shear failed RC deep beam by the so-called the Steel Clamping Unit (SCU), which is a strengthening equipment, is carried out. The analysis considers the span-to-depth ratio, the existence of prestressing and stirrup, the shape of shear crack, and the strengthening position of the SCU. Based on analytical results, optimized strengthening analysis and design are carried out by investigating the behavior of the strengthened deep beams. The comparison between analytical results and experimental results shows that optimum strengthening effect by the SCU can be obtained when compressive strut zone created by SCU is away from major shear crack of the beam as far as possible.
In this numerical approach, strut-placed supersonic annular flow is examined. The geometrical variations of strut cause strong influence on flowfield structures. The geometrical variations are as follows, swept effect, attack angle effect, variation of leading edge shape. These changed features such as velocity structure, pressure structure, shock-boundary layer interaction are compared and analyzed according to each geometrical configuration.

In this paper, We propose the initial shape finding and dynamic analysis of cable dome structure are presented. Cable dome that is consist of three component such as cable, strut and fabric membrane have complex structural characteristics. Main structural system of cable dome is cable-strut tensegric system, and fabric membrane element Is conceived as cladding roof material. One of the important problem of cable dome is shape finding of those subjected to cable and membrane forces, which stabilize the structures. And the other is structural response from external load effect such as snow and wind When cable dome are subjected to dynamic load such as wind load each structural component has many important problem because of their special structural characteristics. One problem is that geometrical nonlinearity should be considered in the dynamic analysis because large deformation is occurred from their flexible characteristic. The other problem is that wrinkling occurs occasionally because cable and membrane elements can not transmit compressive forces. So this paper describe the physical structural response of cable dome structure.

The RC corbels with the ratio of shear span-to-effective depth less than 1 are commonly used to transfer loads from beams to columns. The ultimate strengths and structural behaviors of RC corbels are controlled by the shear span-to-effective depth ratio, strength of concrete, shape and quantity of the reinforcement, and geometry of corbels. In this study, a simple indeterminate strut-tie model reflecting all characteristics of the ultimate strengths and complicated structural behaviors is presented for the design of RC corbels. In addition, a load distribution ratio, defined as a magnitude of load transferred by a horizontal truss mechanism, is proposed to help structural designers perform the design of RC corbels by using the strut-tie model approaches of current design codes. The ultimate strengths of 30 RC corbels tested to failure are evaluated by using the ACI 318-05's strut-tie model code for the validity check of the proposed indeterminate strut-tie model and load distribution ratio.

In current research, it was attempted a preliminary design and evaluation of non-uniform ultra high-strength concrete (UHSC) truss members. UHSC used here has the compressive strength of 180 MPa, the tensile strength of 8 to 20 MPa, and the tensile strain after cracks up to 2%. By the three-dimensional finite element stress analysis as well as strut-tie approach on concrete solid beams, the non-uniform truss shape of UHSC truss was designed with the architectural esthetic concept. In a series of examples, to compare with conventional concrete members, the proposed UHSC truss members have advantages in capabilities of the slender design with minimum weight with high performances under transverse loadings as well as the aesthetically non-uniform design for spatial structures.
