  • The later part of the Lee-Dynasty was a period that marked an important turning point in the history of the modern communication system in our country. This paper proposes to research the historic process of initiation and development of the modern communication system in that period through the communication administrative organ and the installation of the wire communication lines such as wastward lines, southward lines and northward lines extended from Han Seung (Seoul) as well as the submarine cables from Korea to Japan. The modernization of the communication system in our country had been achieved in the struggle of national uprising spirits of Korean people against the invasive avarices of the neighbouring nations such as Japan and China. The initiation of the modern communication system played a leading role in civilizing our country. Thus the fair spirits of our forerunners who had schemed to develop the independent communication system should be valued enormously.

  • The importance of service quality in any service industry cannot be disputed. Shippers have increased expectations concerning the quality of shipping service they receive and carriers are struggling to meet these expectations. This struggle between shipper and carriers would suggest that there is room to improve much more understandings of how shipper define shipping service quality in the carriers' perspectives. This is an empirical investigation and study on the measurement of customer response and service quality as perceived by customer in the international transportation logistics system. The purpose of this study is to clarify factors of shipping service quality on the basis of service marketing concept. In order to fulfill the objectives, this paper combined research tools that include both empirical study and documentary research. Data was gathered from 132 freight forwarder by the use of questionnaire. In this study, the established hypotheses were generated on the basis of the service quality evaluation model(SERVQUAL, SERVPERF, and EP) and Gap model.

  • LCD business has grown up changing its strategy and main focus by the order of NBPC, MNT and TV for decades. The presence of PDP drives TV market more demanding. The performance of LCD is required to be improved to struggle against PDP. To strengthen the competitiveness in the market, IPS and VA have evolved in various structures such as H-IPS, AS-IPS, and S-PVA. The introduction of new structures which have multi domains requires the interpretation of disclination area. We developed a new simulation tool based on fast Q-tensor method. It enables us to predict the shape of disclinations and the resulting optical properties. We applied this simulation tool to the development of 26-inch wide monitor having H-IPS mode.

  • Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (FRP) are used to enhance the behavior of structural components in either shear or flexure. The research conducted in this paper was mainly focused on the shear-strengthening of reinforced and prestressed concrete beams using FRP. The main objective of the research was to identify the parameters affecting the shear capacity provided by FRP and evaluate the accuracy of analytical models. A review of prior experimental data showed that the available analytical models used to estimate the added shear capacity of FRP struggle to provide a unified design equation that can predict accurately the shear contribution of externally applied FRP. In this study, the ACI 440.2R-$08^1$ model and the model developed by Triantafillou and Antonopoulos$^2$ were compared with the prior experimental data. Both analytical models failed to provide a satisfactory prediction of the FRP shear capacity. This study provides insights into potential reasons for the unsatisfactory prediction.

  • Accompanied with ongoing calls for reform in statistics curriculum, mathematics and statistics teachers purposefully have been reconsidering the curriculum and the content taught in statistics classes. Changes made are centered around statistical inference since teachers recognize that students struggle with understanding the ideas and concepts used in statistical reasoning. Despite the efforts to change the curriculum, studies are sparse on the topic of characterizing student learning and understanding of statistical inference. Moreover, there are no tools to evaluate students' statistical reasoning in a coherent way. In response to the need for a research instrument, in a series of research study, the researcher developed a reliable and valid measure to assess students' inferential reasoning in statistics (IRS). This paper describes processes of test blueprint development that has been conducted from review of the literature and expert reviews.

  • Taiwan's economy has been characterized by the strong existence and continuous creation of small and medium-sized enterprises. This phenomenon is commonly regarded to be the result of a culturally embedded strong entrepreneurial spirit. In the process of developing a high-technology industry in southern Taiwan, linking a newly established science park with existing local industries was one of the major challenges. This article reviewed the development history of Tainan Technopolis. Following a concise review of Southern Taiwan Science Park's struggle against becoming an assembly of spillover establishments from Hsinchu Science Park, the authors focused on the efforts of incubating startups. Although only an initial study, the authors demonstrated the roles of National Cheng Kung University and Southern Taiwan Science Park Administration in introducing a two-track incubation system based on collaboration between the two institutions and startups.

  • Learning strategies are defined as behaviors and thoughts that a learner engages in during learning and that are intended to influence the learner's encoding process. Today, demands for teaching how to learn increase, because there is a lot of complex material which is delivered to students. But learning strategies shouldn't be identified as tricks of students for achieving high scores in exams. Cognitive researchers and theorists assume that learning strategies are related to two types of learning processing, which are described as 'surface learning' and 'deep learning'. In addition learning strategies are associated with learning motivation. Students with 'meaning orientation' who struggle for deep learning, are intrinsically motivated, whereas students with 'reproduction orientation' or 'achieving orientation' are extrinsically motivated. Therefore, to foster active learning and intrinsic motivation of students, it isn't enough to just teach how to learn. Changes of curriculum and assessment methods, that stimulate deep learning and curiosity of students are needed with educators and learners working cooperatively.

  • This study focuses on Korean independent documentary Unnie dealing with prostitution in Korean society. Not only does it discuss profuse discourse about Unnie such as politics of the film, Korean independent documentary as a tool of struggle, an organized narrative for anti-prostitution and social power of the film but also it deals with prostitution matters related with the film such as prostitute rights, anti-prostitution and pro-prostitution. And it diagnoses possibilities of modifying audiences' recognition and participatory spectatorship with Unnie, conducting a survey of 202 undergraduates.

  • EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) classes are now accepted policy at Korean universities, yet students often struggle with required academic English writings. The present study examined an EMI class that used direct instruction and access to online assistive English writing software. From preliminary analysis, 26 students expressed interest in how an EMI academic writing class could facilitate improved English writing skills. Study participants completed a survey on self-efficacy and learning needs and assignments for an EMI academic writing class. To establish inter-rater reliability, three trained raters assessed the written essays of students prior to and after instructional intervention. Fleiss' Kappas statistics showed moderate reliability. Students' opinions on the use of online software were also analysed. Paired t-test was run on the quality of students' pre- and post-instruction assignments, and there was significant difference in the rated scores. Self-efficacy was found to have moderate positive association with improved post-essay writing scores.

  • The writers have explored developmental strategies for Library and Information Science in Korea which would flexibly cope with changes in the social environment. They have identified two fronts in the struggle to improve the conditions in the present developmental stage of their academic discipline, i.e., self-reliance and 'movement' orientation.
